Uber Ice Cream returns July 19th, takes on-demand dessert worldwide (video)

Uber Ice Cream returns, takes ondemand refreshment worldwide video

Veteran Uber members will remember last year’s Uber Ice Cream: for one day only, they could use the company’s mobile app to hail an ice cream truck and beat the heat. The program is thankfully coming back on July 19th, and this time on a much larger scale. Customers in 18 US cities and 16 international cities can order group-sized batches of ice cream that should arrive within minutes; the most common US pricing offers five desserts for $25. You’ll need to both sign up and download Uber’s Android or iOS apps if you want to take part, but those small hassles could lead to some big relief from the summer swelter.

Samsung Galaxy Folder may return flip phone to fashionability with Android

With the Samsung Galaxy Folder, a smartphone from this worldwide manufacturer will single-handedly bring back the fashionability of physical QWERTY keyboards. At least that’s what the tip is from Korea along manufacturing lines where the smartphone is said to be being built. There it’s rumored that large amounts of reports of “discomfort” have been rolling in on the backs of their massively successful touchscreen-only device lines – and it may be time to create yet another Galaxy handset.

The Samsung Galaxy Folder is said to be coming with a 4.2-inch display with mid-tier display resolution. This machine will have a flip-screen allowing it to work with a full QWERTY keyboard in place of a traditional flip-phone’s 9-digit keypad, and the whole handset line will be prepped for full data support and 4G LTE right out of the gate. This is different from most traditional flip-phones as the form factor all but died out at the dawn of the smartphone.

This tip comes from DDaily where the publication reports the device to be appearing as soon as the 16th of August internationally. While it’s unclear when – or if – the smartphone will be hitting the USA on stateside carrier bands. This publication also suggests Samsung has reached out to them with a statement which suggests the August release and LTE support incoming.

With the Samsung Galaxy Folder there’s a question of how the vast majority of touchscreen-only Android apps will function. While most smartphones today employ Android with on-screen keyboards, Samsung will have to retro-fit apps – or ask developers to do so – so that this machine’s unique makeup can be handled with style.

This device will likely be launched in a variety of colors to appeal to those consumers hoping to keep up with Samsung’s higher-cost range of smartphones and tablets. If the Samsung Galaxy S 4 can come in Aurora Red, so can the Galaxy Folder.

Rubbee turns any bike into an electric one in seconds

Electric bike conversion comes in a small package.

(Credit: Rubbee)

Electric bicycles are a lot like regular bikes, but the trade-off for getting an electrical assist is usually a heavier and more expensive ride. The Rubbee on Kickstarter is a clever take on the concept of electric bike conversion kits. Everything is in one compact package that attaches to a bike’s seat post.

A friction wheel sits on the back tire while a built-in electric motor turns it, giving you up to a 15-mile range. The device weighs 14 pounds and can be attached and removed quickly. A handle lets you carry it around and stash it inside, out of sight.

Dell Precision M3800 MacBook Pro rival confirmed: 3200 x 1800 display rumored

Dell has confirmed to SlashGear that it is readying an unannounced mobile workstation, the Precision M3800, tipped to take on Apple’s MacBook Pro with a Retina-besting 3200 x 1800 15.6-inch display. Due to hit desks before the year is out, the new notebook packs a quadcore Intel Core i7-4702MQ processor and up to 16GB of memory, according to Tweakers, and a choice of either 1TB of standard hard-drive space or 512GB of SSD storage.

It’s the display that’s most interesting, though, with the Precision M3800 said to offer a choice of resolutions from 1920 x 1080 Full HD, up to a whopping 3200 x 1800. Considering Apple’s MacBook Pro 15 has 2880 x 1800, that would put the M3800 just ahead.

Driving that display is expected to be NVIDIA’s Quadro K1100M GPU, complete with up to 2GB of dedicated memory. If the graphics chip sounds unfamiliar then you’re not alone; it’s not yet been announced by NVIDIA.

Ports on the 15.6-inch notebook are said to include four USB 3.0, HDMI, and an SD card reader, though no ethernet connection; instead, Dell is said to have followed Apple’s example and relied on a separate adapter dongle for that. There’s still room for either 61Wh or 91Wh batteries, though, though no word on how long the Precision M3800 will last on a full charge.

The Windows 8 notebook will be offered with or without a touchscreen, and Dell will supposedly be charging between $1,699 and $1,999 for the matte black, aluminum-trimmed machine.

Dell would not confirm the full specifications, though did tell SlashGear that the notebook is indeed an upcoming model.

“Dell is introducing the thinnest and lightest workstation ever later this year” a spokesperson told us. “The Dell Precision M3800 is the first mobile workstation that is less than 3/4 of an inch, at 18mm, weighs only 4.5lbs and offers certified performance and dependability for creative professionals. We are not releasing or confirming any additional details today but stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.”

LG Optimus F3 comes to Virgin Mobile with LTE, $180 price tag

LG Optimus F3 comes to Virgin Mobile

The LG Optimus F3 doesn’t make much sense on Sprint, where a preference for contract pricing leaves the F3 competing with more advanced devices. It’s a good thing that the 4-inch Android phone has launched on Sprint’s contract-free Virgin Mobile brand, then. The smaller carrier’s version offers everything we’ve seen before, including LTE, but costs just $180 up front — a big discount over both the $250 Sprint variant and most 4G phones at Virgin. Combined with cheaper plans, Virgin’s Optimus F3 should be a much better deal for those who want LTE on the cheap.
