What is this? A pint of dragon fire ice cream? An alien planet model? Speckled clay? Amazingly, it’s the cross section of a golf ball. Photographer James Friedman captured the innards of different golf balls and unexpectedly revealed a core that look more like they’re from outer space than anything in this world.
Following its unveiling of a super long zoom earlier this evening, Panasonic has introduced a new compact digital camera, the LUMIX DMC-XS3. This camera brings with it a high-sensitivity 14.1-megapixel MOS Sensor, which improves image quality in addition to reducing noise levels. The camera is equipped with a wide-angle lens and several filter features.
The Lumix DMC-XS3 is designed to offer a slim profile, measuring in at its thinnest point at 14mm. Within this compact offering, users will find a 24mm to 120mm 5x optical zoom alongside a 10x Intelligent Zoom feature. Video recording comes in at 1920 x 1080 full HD video recording, with videos being saved in MP4 format.
In addition, the camera features a feature called iA, which stands for Intelligent Auto. With iA, Intelligent ISO Control, Intelligent Scene Selector, Face Detection, and Intelligent Exposure are all fired up automatically, tweaking the settings as necessary based on the scene and other factors. The changes can be viewed, then, via the 2.7-inch Intelligent LCD, which offers 100-percent FoV.
Taking the iA setting a step further, it also has a mode called Handheld Night Shot, which layers several images together to create brighter, higher-quality images than what you’d get with a single shot. There’s also Beauty Retouch, Creative Control, Creative Retouch, and Creative Panorama, which offers many different filters and retouch options.
The filter effects include things like Impressive Art, Sepia, Low Key, High Key, Old Days, One Point Color, Miniature Effect, and more. The Beauty Retouch, meanwhile, has things like Smokey, Glamour, Cheerful, and Elegant. And rounding it out is the Aesthethic Retouch, which offers Clear Skin, Shine Removal, teeth whitening, and more. There’s no word on pricing or release date yet.

LG is ditching the awkward transformers Optimus brand name for its Android phones.
Posted in: Today's ChiliLG is ditching the awkward transformers Optimus brand name for its Android phones. From now on, LG Android phones will just be part of a ‘G-series’. Like the upcoming LG G2
LG isn’t beating around the bush this evening; its Snapdragon 800-based followup to the original Optimus G will officially be known as the G2. Naturally, with so many of the smartphone’s secrets already on display for the world to see, the revelation is a minor one at best, but it fills in a small piece of the puzzle for what we might expect on August 7th. With the announcement, LG is also tweaking its branding scheme by dropping Optimus from the phone’s name, while also reiterating the G series as the company’s flagship lineup. Curiously, LG is also hinting at future smartphones with 4:3 displays, which will be known as the Vu: series. Place your bets now on whether the affordable L series receives the same naming treatment.

Logitech has taken the wraps off its new Z600 Bluetooth speakers, which it is specifically aiming at those with ultrabooks and Mac computers with its design, though they’ll work with any device with Bluetooth. The speakers support connection with multiple devices at the same time, allowing the user to toggle between those devices by pausing one audio stream and firing up another.
The feature is particularly useful for those who commonly use a couple different devices, with the Z600 being able to connect to up to three at the same time. One who prefers to use the speakers with a computer, for example, but prefers to stream music over a smartphone can connect both, then use them over the speakers without messing with the connection by simply playing one while the other is paused.
Said Logitech’s Global Vice President of Brand Development and Portfolio for PC Accessories: “The Logitech Bluetooth Speakers Z600 were designed to resemble an object of art using shapes, materials, and colors that meld with the modern living space and complement the look of ultra-thin laptops. And with built-in Bluetooth connectivity, a first for Logitech multimedia speakers, these speakers are ideal for today’s wireless, multi-device lifestyle.”
Each of the speakers feature 3 drivers, and controls are taken care of via a touch panel located on the top of the right unit. Turning the volume up and down, for example, is achieved by running a finger along the edge of the panel. The rest is located in the back of the speaker, such as the standard 3.5 mm input, the power button, and the Bluetooth pairing feature.
The Bluetooth transceiver is USB for those with a computer that doesn’t have wifi, and the 3.5 mm jack allows for wired connections to devices. The wires were designed so that they lay flat between and from the two speakers, reducing visual clutter and helping to avoid tangled messes. The speakers are slated for launch next month, and are priced at $150 USD.

Not long after South Korea’s SK Telecom launched the world’s first LTE-Advanced network, its homegrown rival, LG U+, will be rolling out LTE-Advanced to its customers as well, according to Yonhap News. There’s no word on what phones the new network will support, though we won’t be surprised if LG’s own Optimus G successor will be one of them. Now pardon us as we figure out a way to move to South Korea, as that’s the only place to get a taste of the zippy speeds right now.
