Juror B37 Says George Zimmerman ‘Justified’ In Shooting Trayvon Martin (VIDEO)

July 16 (Reuters) – One of the jurors who acquitted George Zimmerman of murder said the Florida neighborhood watch volunteer was “justified” in shooting unarmed black teenager Trayvon Martin in an interview broadcast by CNN on Tuesday.

Zimmerman, a white Hispanic man, was found not guilty of murder and manslaughter on Saturday after a racially charged trial that has triggered demonstrations across the country.

Speaking on the “Anderson Cooper 360” program, the juror identified as B37 said she wanted to find Zimmerman guilty of “not using his senses” but that “you can’t charge him with anything because he didn’t do anything unlawful”.

Shortly after the interview, CNN said four other jurors released a statement distancing themselves from the comments.

“We, the undersigned jurors, understand there is a great deal of interest in this case. But we ask you to remember that we are not public officials and we did not invite this type of attention into our lives,” they said.

“We also wish to point out that the opinions of juror B37, expressed on the Anderson Cooper show were her own, and not in any way representative of the jurors listed below.”

The jurors have remained anonymous under a judge’s order. CNN said they identified themselves only by their jury pool numbers. Reuters was unable to verify the authenticity of their statement independently.

In an interview aired by the network on Monday, B37 said she did not think Zimmerman racially profiled Martin and believed Martin attacked Zimmerman first. It prompted extreme reactions including death threats on social media.

Juror B37 has previously been described as a mother of two who grew up in a military family and used to have a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

In the interview she said Zimmerman “started the ball rolling” and could have avoided the situation by staying in his car. “But he wanted to do good. I think he had good in his heart, he just went overboard,” the juror told CNN.

Asked later whether she thought Zimmerman was within his rights, she said: “He was justified in shooting Trayvon Martin.” (Reporting by Tim Gaynor; Editing by Elizabeth Piper)

HTC One Mini shows up as 601e in Chinese certification database

Image

Why hello again, One Mini! While HTC has yet to make this metallic 4.3-inch phone official, the closest thing we have right now is this certification in China’s TENAA database. What’s new is the “601e” model name, which positions it in a similar tier as the other slightly bigger 600 series devices destined for China, namely the Desire 606w (aka Desire 600 Dual SIM globally), Desire 608t and Desire 609d. But unlike these models nor the Chinese variants of the larger One, it appears that this 601e with WCDMA radio is just a single-SIM device. With the appearance of this filing, it shouldn’t be long before the One Mini finally hits the shelves around the world.

Nokia Lumia 625 leaks in China, packs 4.7-inch screen

Nokia Lumia 625 gets certified in China, packs 47inch screen

Well, what do we have here? According to China’s official certification website (TENAA), this above is the unannounced Nokia Lumia 625. The handset apparently features a 4.7-inch WVGA screen with super-sensitive touch, 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, 512MB of RAM and 2,000mAh battery — basically a lower-end model. While the listing only mentions GSM / GPRS and WCDMA / HSPA support, the phone supposedly includes LTE, and wraps everything in a unibody design that follows the attractive looks of its smaller cousin, the Lumia 620. In fact, the shape appears to match the RM-941 that passed through the FCC back in June. The device is expected to land in China at the end of July for 1,999 yuan ($325) — just hit the source link below for more info.

UK to test driverless cars on public roads before the end of 2013

UK to test driverless cars on public roads before the end of 2013

While Americans have seen a few driverless cars on the open road, their British counterparts have had to settle for demos on private circuits. They’ll get a better glimpse soon, though, as the UK Department for Transport now expects tests on public streets by the end of 2013. The initial trial runs will be gentle — Oxford University’s Nissan Leaf-based RobotCars will drive only on lightly trafficked roads, with humans tagging along in the event of a crisis. We haven’t yet seen a timetable for more aggressive experiments, but we’re not exactly in a hurry to compete with early autonomous cars during rush hour.

Acer Z3-605 AiO unveiled with Harman Kardon speakers

Acer has announced the availability of its 23-inch Z3-605 All-in-One desktop computer, bringing with it a couple of Harman Kardon speakers, something the computer maker referred to as an “important milestone” for the company. The desktop computer is now shipping to customers in the United States in both touchscreen and non-touchscreen varieties.

Z3605-zoom-big

Acer has put a bit of focus on audio with the Z3-605, placing two 3 watt speakers in the AiO and utilizing Dolby Home Theater version 4 for the output. With this, it is capable of “dynamic surround sound,” also signifying a first in the market with the inclusion of the Harmon Kardon speakers, something the company speaks at length about.

Said Acer’s Director of Desktop Product Management Frank Chang: “Acer is the first in the market to bring Harman Kardon premium sound to a mainstream all-in-one desktop, setting a new standard. The Aspire Z3-605 delivers a dynamic, high-quality audio experience for music and movie lovers and furthers convenience and comfort with an ergonomic and adjustable frame and webcam.”

Inside, users will find an Intel Core i5 processor with up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, depending on user configuration. There’s a 1TB hard drive for ample storage space, as well as two USB 3.0 and two USB 2.0 slots for an additional drive and other peripherals. Video output comes in the form of HDMI, and there’s an integrated SuperMulti optical drive with disc burning.

Other specifications include an SD card reader, a 2-in-1 audio jack, and an on-screen display button, all of which are located within a “capsule-shaped” bay on the front of the device. This design is aimed at making it easy to access certain frequently-used slots and ports. Connectivity includes 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0.

The non-touchscreen version is priced at $699, with the touch variety being $799.
