Kate Upton stepped out in a revealing outfit July 29 in NYC as she enjoyed a night with “Dancing With the Stars” pro and rumored beau, Maksim Chmerkovskiy.
Upton and Chmerkovskiy enjoyed dinner at Catch after the blond bombshell walked the red carpet for the HBO documentary “Casting By.” And although the pair has not confirmed their romance, the 33-year-old admitted to “Extra” that he and Upton “go way back.”
Last week Google announced Chromecast, a $35 HDMI dongle that allows users to mirror content from their computers and mobile devices to a TV over Wi-Fi. Netflix is already onboard, recently it was reported that HBO was interested in bringing HBO GO streaming support to Chromecast. A representative for the network, Laura Young, has confirmed to Variety that HBO is “actively exploring” supporting Chromecast, adding that they can not comment right now on specific plans regarding timing.
When Chromecast’s software was tinkered with, mentions of HBO GO were discovered. This points towards the possibility that Google may already be internally testing an HBO GO app for Chromecast. When the support eventually comes, usrs will require a conventional HBO subscription to view regular programming. Right now, Chromecast is able to support video from YouTube, Netflix and purchased content from Google Play store straight out of the box. Google said that it sold out of the initial Chromecast stock within 24 hours of launching it. Through HBO GO, subscribers are allowed to watch over 1,400 titles including every episode of HBO’s original series such as The Sopranos and Game of Thrones.
There’s no confirmation as yet if Apple really does plan on releasing a budget iPhone this year, though there have been many rumors in favor of that prospect. We’ve heard a number of monikers for this device, iPhone Mini, iPhone Lite and even iPhone 5C. What’s widely believed is that this device will be fashioned out of plastic to keep costs down. We saw iPhone 5C packaging a few days ago, today we see iPhone 5C cases being listed online at Amazon.
Called the Elago S5C Slim Fit 2, these cases are said to be in stock on August 23rd. The iPhone 5C is listed as part of their name, though obviously it can’t be deemed as a confirmation that this is what Apple will end up calling its low cost iPhone. Case manufacturers have been known to gamble on rumors. They rush to get their products out before Apple makes its official announcement, and sometimes in that process they end up taking a hint as what Apple announces turns out to be different from what had been rumored. September 6th is when Apple is expected to unveil its new iPhones.
Most of the Google Glass videos we’ve seen thus far don’t seem to tap this device’s enormous potential. Used as a miniaturized camera phone or just another vehicle for porn, Glass doesn’t do much that a GoPro can’t. And that’s a damn shame, because the way Glass enables wearers to near-effortlessly shoot point-of-view video makes it perhaps the most revolutionary teaching tool ever created, as Dr. Abraham Verghese of Stanford University School of Medicine shows here.
Trask Industries never looked better as the marketing push for X-Men: Days of Future Past begin with an ominous look at Sentinels. These robotic beasts are part of several X-Men storylines, here appearing in a 50 years of innovation video that once again pinpoints the timeline for this next bit of action in the Marvel Universe. While one storyline will sit squarely in the present, the other will take place 11 years after X-Men: First Class.
This trailer and viral marketing campaign video was released early today in an effort to stoke excitement for the upcoming comic book movie. While this installment doesn’t reveal just one whole heck of a lot of information about the film itself, we can see plainly the connections between this system and that of Skynet, the automaton-making company from the Terminator film series.
Back in 1973 we’ll see the beginning of the Trask Industries company – fast forward to 2013 we’ll see nothing short of a full-blown war.
We’ve seen a glimpse of these machines in their most massive form in the movie X-Men: The Last Stand, the good guys having a go at one in the Danger Room (the team’s holographic training room), Wolverine chopping one’s head off after a toss by Colossus. It would appear that the smaller iterations of the robots will be appearing here in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
“Founded by Bolivar Trask in 1967, Trask Industries was built on the philosophy of advancing human progress through technology and genetics. Our early research led to the revolutionary development of DNA-Generated Prosthetics. Since then, Trask Industries has taken the lead in genetics-based defense technology with our Mutant Detection Device and Sentinel program.”
“We’ve partnered with international governments to ensure that any threat to human extinction is preemptively neutralized. With Trask Industries, you can rest assured that the future of humanity is in safe hands.” – Trask Inudstries Viral Site
There’s also a Trask Industries viral site that delivers on some additional plot points. They detail the Sentinel itself (generation 9, Mark 1), along with the Mutant Detection Device and the Inhibitor Collar – for controlling dangerous mutants.
Perhaps best of all, we get to have a peek at none other than Bolivar Trask himself, played by everyone’s favorite Game of Thrones royal, Peter Dinklage. If anyone can pull off the devil that is Trask, it’s Dinklage.
Nintendo faces another blow to its Wii U ambitions, with news that one major retailer will yank the poorly-selling console from its shelves altogether. UK supermarket chain Asda, owned by Walmart, has confirmed it will no longer be stocking the Wii U, games for the console, or accessories in any of its 555 stores, telling CVG UK that it will only be offering select titles through its online shopping system.
Asda, the UK’s second largest market chain, has confirmed the decision to no longer stock the Wii U on-site, though has not commented on why exactly it was reached. “Asda continues to offer customers a selection of Wii U games and accessories through Asda Direct, but these ranges are currently not on offer in Asda shops” the company said in a statement.
However, it’s not hard to draw conclusions from the underwhelming sales performance the console has seen so far, which has led some big-name studios to freeze support for the Wii U moving forward. Flagship launch title ZombiU was so far from profitable that Ubisoft has decided not to make a sequel, and will in fact make its next title – initially another Wii U exclusive – multi-platform.
Ubisoft isn’t alone in its cooling ardor for the Wii U. Both Activision and Electronic Arts have said they are disappointed by the Nintendo console’s sales, and have suspended plans to launch any new titles for it.
As for those upcoming games, Asda will apparently judge these on a case-by-case basis, picking only those that are expected to be best-sellers to offer online. “Asda will stock [Wii U] games on a title by title merit basis as they come along through Asda Direct” a company spokesperson confirmed.
Asda is keen to point out that avoiding the Wii U doesn’t mean it’s abandoning the Japanese gaming company altogether. “We will continue to support Nintendo as a format holder partner” it clarified, though without any further detail as to what that support might look like.
Nintendo has consistently refused to discount the Wii U, insisting that new titles will make the motion-gaming console more appealing in the long run.
The only thing worse than paying out the tuchus for unreliable Time Warner Cable service is being forced pay $4 (NOW $6) per month to rent the cable modem necessary to use this crappy internet. Here’s how to buy your own modem and stick it to the man, no matter where you live. Because screw you, Time Warner.
Benchmarks often catch the ire of critics because their scores don’t necessarily reflect real-world experience, and it appears that some Samsung devices aren’t helping that reputation out at all. Our friends at Anandtech started sifting through data for two Exynos octacore variants of the Galaxy S 4, and discovered multiple benchmarks that appear to run those devices at higher CPU and GPU clock speeds than they normally run. Some of the apps included in the report are GLBench 2.5.1, AnTuTu, Quadrant and Linpack. Coincidentally, the site also found code within the GS4 that indicates the existence of a program called “BenchmarkBooster,” which is responsible for overclocking the processors when certain apps are running. Is this an evil plot by Samsung to take over the world using rogue benchmarking results? Is this something other manufacturers are doing? It’s hard to say, but there is certainly something curious afoot. Check out the source to get all of the skinny on what exactly is going on.
There are surprisingly few documents from 1969 that mark the birth of the internet. We have some notes scribbled on a pad of paper, and a few newspaper articles after the fact. But there weren’t any reporters parked outside of 3420 Boelter Hall at UCLA on October 29, 1969 to witness that historic moment when the ARPANET gasped its first breaths. In fact, it wasn’t even above-the-fold news.
