Inside, users will find a MediaTek MT6589M 1.2GHz quad-core processor, as well as 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage space (expansion possible up to 32GB via a microSD card). This is alongside the TFT capacitive 4.5-inch touchscreen display, which has a resolution of 480 x 854. There’s also a 2000 mAh battery.

Around back, users will find a 5-megapixel rear camera offering auto focus and an LED flash. There’s also a VGA-resolution front-facing camera. With the rear camera, users will be able to record video in resolutions up to 1280 x 720 at 30 frames-per-second. The camera software isn’t detailed, except for mention of an HDR mode, which – assuming it is like other HDR modes – will take images in different exposures and combine them together.

Connectivity for the Blu Dash 4.5 is comprised of GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and HSPA+ 21Mbps 850/1900. There’s 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, as well as Bluetooth, GPS, the ability to create a hotspot with the data connection, and a microUSB port for various wired activities and charging. As far as sensors go, there’s proximity, gyro, and an accelerometer.

As far as software goes, the handset runs Android 4.2, while the smartphone itself measures in at 133.5 x 67 x 11.9 mm with a weight of 147 grams. As mentioned, the handset also offers both dual-SIM and dual-Active functionality, and has a reported battery life of several days, though we’re guessing that’s not with all the networks cranking away.

Google’s Alfred service shutting down on July 19th

Google's Alfred service shutting down on July 19th

Google’s not done shuttering wares this month, apparently, as the local recommendation service Alfred is headed for the digital cemetery on July 19th. The app issued a warning to its users, spotted by TechCrunch, announcing its impending death and warning users to request data through the feedback tool should they wish to use it post-July 19th.

Mountain View purchased Clever Sense, the company that created Alfred, back in late 2011. The team responsible has since moved on, internally, to other projects (CEO Babak Pahlavan, for instance, is now part of Google’s Analytics division). Apparently their baby couldn’t escape Google’s ever-looming axe, and it joins Latitude in the most recent round of service cuts.

LG unveils LA9700 series 4K Ultra HD LED 55-inch and 65-inch TVs

LG has announced an expansion to its ultra high-definition 4K line of TVs, this time with full-backlit LED 55-inch and 65-inch models. In addition, there has also been unveiled an 84-inch UHD model, which is the first to be made available to buyers in the United States. If you’re in the market for the 84-inch version, you’ll need to shell out a whopping $20,000 and head to LG’s Santa Monica retail store.

The 55-inch and 65-inch ultra high-definition TVs feature 4.1-channel 50-watt sound system that includes what LG calls a sliding speaker, which is mounted on a motorized sound bar that automatically surfaces beneath the panel. As for the display itself, LG used its Nano Full LED backlighting along with an IPS display.

The TVs feature a picture resolution of 3840 x 2160, as well as the Tru-Ultra HD engine that upscales content via a four-step process. In addition, the LA9700 utilized an H.265 HEVC (high-efficiency video coding) decoder, which will make the sets compatible with new 4K standards that may be implemented in the future for streaming and broadcast.

LG Electronics’ senior vice president Jay Vandenbree said: and head of LG’s U.S. home entertainment business. “When we brought the first Ultra HD TV to market last fall, consumer acceptance was surprisingly strong, considering that the 84-inch TV carried a $20,000 pricetag. Now, with a wider range of sizes at more attractive prices, even more consumers can enjoy the amazing picture clarity that Ultra HD TVs provide.”

In addition, the 55-inch and 65-inch models feature the Smart TV offering from LG, which provides features like Cinema 3D and Magic Remote for voice control. The smaller model has a suggested retail price of $5,999, says LG, while the 65-inch model has a suggested retail price of $7,999.

The Rise of Artificial Intelligence Is Absolutely Fascinating

We poke fun at Siri and pretend to get scared by Humanoid robots and make our neck hair stand up straight by watching quadrocopters do amazing things but the truth is, artificial intelligence is still pretty dumb. But that’s going to change! The rise of artificial intelligence is happening and they’re learning a lot more about us because we’re learning more about them. Sort of.

BlackBerry A10 image surfaces shortly after spec leak

Yesterday, the BlackBerry A10 – codenamed Aristo – had some of its specs leaked, showing us what the company has in mind for its Z10 reboot. Now the folks over at Boy Genius Report have nabbed an image of the smartphone, as well as a screenshot of its system information showing it running BlackBerry version 10.2.0.552.

According to the specs leak, the BlackBerry A10 is said to feature a 5-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 720. In addition, there’s said to be a dual-core processor and a separate graphics processor, something that eschews the integrated chip the company elected to use in its current offerings.

This is alongside a reported 2GB of RAM, per yesterday’s leak. The device is reportedly being focused towards gaming and power in general, and features a touchscreen display rather than a keyboard. And then there’s the actual styling of the device, which BGR reported as being more finished and to have a more refined fit over the Z10 handset currently available.

The back of the device is reported as featuring “something similar” to what is found on the current BlackBerry Q10 device, and overall it is more rounded in nature than the company’s other phones. Also leaked yesterday was the BlackBerry 9720, which is a reboot of the Q10 in the same way the A10 is a reboot of the Z10 handset.

The BlackBerry 9720 is said to feature styling that makes it similar in nature to the 9700, updating its look so that it falls in line with the company’s other 2013 devices. That’s the extent of what we know about them right now, but it is enough to give BlackBerry faithfuls an idea of what to expect. What do you think? Let us know!

Kyocera’s water-resistant Hydro Edge dives onto Sprint, Boost Mobile this month

Kyocera Hydro Edge dives onto Sprint, Boost Mobile this TKTK

An ice bar isn’t how we’d choose to showcase a water-resistant smartphone, but that’s just what Kyocera did at CTIA this year for the Hydro Edge. At the time, Sprint and Boost Mobile had set a loose summer launch for the modest device and now we have a hard date: July 19th and July 23rd, respectively. The IPX 5/7 certified device can be had on a two-year plan at the Now Network for $20 or for $150 outright at Boost, which gets you a 4-inch WVGA display, dual-core 1GHz Snapdragon processor running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and a 5-megapixel rear shooter. It’s not as sleek and stylish as Sony’s own hydrophobic smartphone, but if you’re on a budget and need to brave the watery element, the Edge’ll have to do.

Netflix Might Give Us Another Season of Arrested Development

Netflix Might Give Us Another Season of Arrested Development

Though some people weren’t as fanatical about Netflix’s Season 4 of Arrested Development, I loved it (especially once it got rolling). So I’m ecstatic that Netflix is currently in talks to do another season of Arrested Development. As awesome as a movie has sounded in the past, more episodic puzzles in the name of Arrested Development is always a good thing.
