Xbox One pre-orders sold out at Best Buy

Just yesterday, GameStop confirmed that they stopped accepting pre-orders for the new PlayStation 4 after they received incredible demand for the console. This time around, the Xbox One is seeing its first pre-order halt at Best Buy. The Xbox One Day One Edition, which is the only console on Best Buy’s website, is listed as “Sold Out Online.”

As for in-store pre-orders, a couple of Best Buy locations in the area told us that they were no longer accepting pre-orders in-store either, but they said it’s possible that they’ll open up again if they get more inventory in at some point, although that’s a big “if” at this point.

Gamers still wanting to pre-order an Xbox One can still do so at Amazon, Walmart, Target, or GameStop, although the Day One Edition on Amazon doesn’t appear to be available for pre-order — just the standard edition console, which is a bit odd. Nonetheless, there are still plenty of places to grab an Xbox One for yourself, but we’d recommend to hurry it up since Best Buy is already sold out. More stores are likely to follow soon.

As for Best Buy’s availability of the PlayStation 4, they still have everything up for pre-order, hinting to the possibility that the Xbox One is selling much better than the PS4 at Best Buy, but it’s the other way around at GameStop. Then again, it could entirely be an issue of inventory rather than who had the most pre-orders.

Frankly, we’re pretty excited for both of the consoles’ releases later in the fall, and a fresh new console war has long been overdue. The holiday season will arguably be the biggest that we’ve seen in the last few years thanks to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, and we have no doubt in believing that these will be big ticket items when Santa comes to town.

Digital Storm VELOCE brings first 13.3-inch gaming notebook with Haswell to market

This afternoon the first slimline gaming notebook with a 13.3-inch display and Haswell – that’s Intel’s 4th generation Core technology, mind you – is being unleashed on the public. This machine sports a slick customized system mark of excellence on its back with Digital Storm’s hot red cut down its back, bringing with it a system that also sports the highest-end NVIDIA GeForce GTX 700-series graphics cards under the hood.

01-Main

This machine works with a body that’s just 1.26-inches thick and brings on an Intel Core i7 4800MQ processor to team up with an NVIDIA GTX 765M graphics card. That’s the full force of NVIDIA’s vision – as we were informed earlier this year – for gaming notebooks that aren’t as massive and bulky as previous generations would have us believe they had to be.

04-Keyboard

This machine works with full HD, 1920 x 1080 pixels, that is, across its 13.3-inch display. That means you’re going to be rolling out with a display that’s more densely packed than any solution from this company in the past. Below said display is a “cold silver and grey” interior with a keyboard that’s fully back-lit.

02-Sides

Under the hood you’ve also got two storage drives (mSATA & 2.5”) with RAID capability as well as a dedicated internal network port. Also around the edges you’ll find HDMI 1.4, VGA video out, three SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports, and ethernet. The whole package then rings in at $1,535 USD, all of this coming in on July 17th – just a week away!

Pokémon X & Y Starters Stuffed Toys: The Only Time You Can Choose All Three

The release of Pokémon X and Y is still about three months away. But because we live in the age of pre-orders, Banpresto is already dangling plushies of the game’s starter monsters to fans. You don’t have to choose between Chespin, Fennekin and Froakie either, because you can order them as a set. Also because Froakie is the only correct choice.

You can pre-order the 5.11″ plushies from NCSX for about $16 (USD) each or $40 for all three. Animeraro also has the DX edition of the stuffed toys; they’re about 9″ tall and sell for $30 each or $70 for the set.

Apple Store construction leads to 15th century ruin discovery in Spain

Apple is setting up shop in Madrid, Spain where the company is building a new 6,000 square-foot flagship Apple Store, but during construction while digging out the store’s basement, construction workers discovered remains of a piece of wall of an old hospital dating back to the 15th century.

The hospital, named the Buen Suceso hospital, was demolished in 1854 to make room for newer buildings, as was the church that stood right next to the hospital. The church’s ruins were discovered back in 2009 during the construction of the new Sol Metro and Cercanías light rail station, and Apple was actually told about the possibility of finding ruins during construction of the Apple Store.

Just like with the rail station, Apple considered to build a display case of sorts to show off the ruins to Apple customers as they walk through the store, but they eventually decided against it, saying that there wouldn’t be a lot of interest in the display. However, Apple is now considering to change the design of the store to “symbolically trace the outline” of the walls of the old hospital.

However, none of the hospital ruins will be visible, but the store could pay a quiet homage to the building that stood on that land of ground before the Apple Store. Details on this aren’t finalized as of yet.

The hospital was built in the early 15th century to treat plague victims. At that time, the hospital had 60 beds, but it went through several renovations, including one in the early 1600s. Eventually, though, it was demolished to make room for the Puerta del Sol.

A Layer of Love: Amazing Paper Art!

Many people enjoy books because they come alive and allow the author’s message to blend with the creativity of the reader. Some artists take a more direct approach, like Luciana Frigerio, and choose to share their artistic message in words made out of pages, rather than in words printed on them.

How to find a good TV salesperson

(Credit: Public Domain/Geoffrey Morrison)

Every time I write an article like Five lies your TV salesperson will tell you, there’s an outcry from the (very small) minority of salespeople that proclaim their integrity and sincere desire to help people find the right gear.

I do believe these people exist, but the problem is, how do you find them? Here are some tricks, tips, and steps to help you find the right salesperson.

Where to go In most cases, we recommend buying online. If that’s not your thing, your only choice is braving the noise at a local electronics store. The big-box retailers like Best Buy, Costco, Walmart, and the like have hourly employees. There is no incentive for these employees to actually know anything about the product they’re helping you with. This isn’t to say that all blue-shirted employees know nothing. Indeed, it’s possible you might find one who’s an avid CNET reader and keeps up on the latest tech because they’re legitimately into it. It stands to reason that some people are drawn to work at a place like Best Buy because they’re into the gear. This is what got me to apply to Circuit City many moons ago.

However, the odds are stacked against you. Chances… [Read more]
