Instagram Blocking Photo Uploads From Third Party Windows Phone Apps

Instagram Blocking Photo Uploads From Third Party Windows Phone Apps

Windows Phone users still do not have an official Instagram app. Major apps have committed themselves to the platform, such as Vine and Flipboard. There’s no word as yet on when an official Instagram app for Windows Phone will be released. There are a host of third party apps out there that allow users to upload photos to Instagram through their WP devices. It appears that the service is blocking uploads from such apps, and even deleting photos that get posted within seconds of them going online.

Lets look at one particular third party app for Windows Phone, Instance. It is a popular client that WP users use to upload their photos to Instagram. Its not an official solution, Instagram’s API has been reverse engineered in Instance to bypass the service and upload pictures directly. The developer of Instance has said that images posted through the app are being deleted. It seems that uploads from Instance are being tracked, and there’s a big possibility that they’re doing the same with other popular clients. Facebook has not commented as yet on these removals.

‘Star Wars’ fan event teases ‘Episode VII,’ ‘Rebels’ cartoon

While the Star Wars Celebration Europe fan fest has gone the way of the Jedi, its impact is still causing ripples in the Force.

As expected, “Star Wars: Episode VII” dominated conversation at the July 26-28 event, but there was also focus on the new animated show, composer John Williams, and some interesting quotes from Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy.

‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Kennedy seemingly assured fans the sci-fi saga is in the right hands during a panel at Celebration Europe. Most importantly, the film will go back to basics and shed the overabundant CGI seen in the prequels.

“Looking at all the ‘Star Wars’ movies and getting a feel for what even some of the early films did, combining real locations and special effects — that’s something we’re looking very seriously at,” said Kennedy. “It’s using model makers; it’s using real droids; it’s taking advantage of artwork that you actually can touch and feel. And we want to do that in combination with CG effects. We figure that’s what will make it real.”

Moto X glass panel leaks up close

What you’re about to see is a selection of photos of what very much appears to be the front panel from the upcoming Motorola smartphone known as Moto X. This device is manufactured by Motorola and will be assembled in the USA, being part of a massive campaign through the group’s parent company Google, pushed as an ideal everyman phone for the Summer of 2013. The images you’re seeing here show the front reinforced glass panel (likely Corning Gorilla Glass) that’ll keep the device’s display safe from everyday harm.

This glass panel works with markings that suggest its existence as a tester part. These markings include numbers and code in its upper right in white and the big ‘ol “MOTOROLA CONFIDENTIAL PROPERTY” down in its center below its display hole. We’re also expecting that the new Motorola logo in this panel’s upper left will be axed from the final edition of the device.

ABOVE: The first official Moto X event will be taking place on the 1st of August – that’s this Thursday. SlashGear will be there all day with some Moto X hands-on action before the day is over; that you can bank on!

Each of the holes you’re seeing here will quite likely stick around, on the other hand. Up to the right you’ll find a sizeable front-facing camera hole, while the center top features a standard hole for an ear-aimed speaker. Beside this earpiece you’ll find two more holes, one each for proximity sensor and light sensor.

Down below, just above the word MOTOROLA, you’ll find another hole you’d be smart to bet on being one of at least two microphone holes. Below you’ll find a bit of a D shape in the bottom of the panel, this indicating the panel to be going down the side and low enough to need to move aside for the device’s microUSB port.

While this device has been rumored to be working with some sort of “Magic Glass” that spills over its edges by certain Android bloggers, this panel appears to have a much more standard plastic rim which – by all means – feels like the glass continues around the edges while the unit remains relatively protected with a much more flexible bit of material keeping the glass safe.

Thanks for the tip, RealGo!

ASUS chairman: Windows RT results ‘not very promising’

As ASUS goes full steam ahead in the smartphone space, prepping itself for an entry into the US market, the company has apparently done a rethink on its support for Windows RT. Chairman Jonney Shih told All Things D that, as far as the company’s work with the Windows 8 offshoot goes, “the result is not very promising.” Don’t take that to mean that ASUS is set on completely abandoning the OS, but the future of ASUS Windows RT devices doesn’t look particularly bright at the moment.

Here’s How to Prank the Hell Out Of a Carnival Shooting Gallery

For those too young to remember, there was a time when carnival shooting galleries used actual .22 rifles. At some point in the latter half of the 1900s game makers switched to pellet or BB guns and then everything went electronic.

Report: The Next Amazon Kindle Fires Will Have Blazing Snapdragon Guts

BGR is reporting that the next batch of Amazon Kindle Fires will run a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor clocked "at about" 2GHz. It’s hard to believe that Amazon would go with Qualcomm’s top chipset on a tablet that’s supposed to compete as a cheaper alternative to the iPad. Extreme overkill, much? On the other hand, it would be pretty dope to see what the chipset can do.
