Andre Iguodala, Warriors Agree To Contract, Golden State Dumps Salary With Jazz Trade: REPORT

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The Golden State Warriors have agreed with one coveted free agent and could still be chasing another.

The Warriors reached an agreement with swingman Andre Iguodala on a $48 million, four-year deal Friday, two people with knowledge of the situation said.

The people spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because NBA rules prevent confirmation of moves until July 10. One said the Warriors cleared more than $24 million in salary cap space by sending Richard Jefferson, Andris Biedrins and Brandon Rush to the Utah Jazz along with unspecified draft picks.

A Map of the Entire Internet, 1977

Once upon a time, you could draw a map of the known Internet. Here’s what the world of networked computers looked like in 1977 when ARPANET was still just a huge government-funded science project. It’s actually incredible that the network proliferated this much in the eight years after the first four-node network was established back in 1969.

iPhone 5 trumped Galaxy S4 on user complaints at launch — study

Users have a love/hate relationship with these two, but one received a little more hate at launch.

(Credit: CNET)

If you believe the griping on social media, then the iPhone 5 caused the most user angst of the major smartphone releases of the past year.

Social media analysts We Are Social gauged the reaction on Twitter, blogs, and forums following the release of the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S4, Nokia Lumia 920, and BlackBerry Z10. What the research firm found, according to the Daily Mail, was that the percentage of comments about the iPhone with a negative connotation (20 percent, the highest ratio among the four phones studied) was nearly twice that of the rate of negative feelings expressed about the Galaxy S4 (11 percent, the lowest rate out of the four).

Before you accuse anyone of being any particular kind of fanboi, it’s worth revisiting the fall of 2012, when the iPhone 5 was launched — and when Apple found itself ensnarled in an … [Read more]

Rachel Bilson Thinks She Was ‘A Dumb Ass’ In Her ‘OC’ Days

Rachel Bilson shot to fame as Summer Roberts on ‘The O.C.,’ but in hindsight, the actress has some regrets.

In a recent interview with the British Cosmopolitan (via Hollywood Life), Bilson admitted that her behavior during the show wasn’t the best. “I didn’t have any idea how much ‘The O.C.’ would change my life,” she said. “I thought I knew everything, but now I look back and think, ‘You were a dumb ass! What was your problem?’”

Co-star Tate Donovan previously said that his on-screen daughter Mischa Barton and the rest of the young “O.C.” cast were difficult to work with. “They all started out great. The first year those kids were fantastic, and then, they just … all of them just fell apart,“ he told Bravo’s Andy Cohen. “When you first get fame, you get so insecure … that you just become a ding-dong … and they did, but they’re maturing. They’re working, and not working. They’re learning their lessons.”

Why Google Could Win the Console Wars

If Google TV taught us anything, it’s that the search giant has some interest in competing in the living room. The company’s platform, which runs on set-top boxes and televisions, is designed to run atop the user’s television service and deliver full interactivity with both that programming and all of the entertainment options available on the Web.

When Google TV was announced years ago, everyone knew that it was an ambitious project. But Google seemed focused on breaking into the living room and succeeding.

Now that Google TV has become a loser, rumors are swirling that the search giant is considering jumping into the console market. The device, according to the rumor mill, would possibly run on Android and come with complete access to the games currently available in the Google Play marketplace. And since it’s Google, the rumor mill argues, it might just have a chance at becoming a hot commodity in the gaming market.

But I think it could go much further than that. The way I see it, Google might just become the console market’s most dominant force if it launches a console. It won’t happen overnight, but it will happen.

Looking at the console market, things are tough. The current generation of devices are losing steam and the Wii U, which should be selling quite well right now, is proving to be a loser.

That’s the first good thing for Google. Chances are, an Android-based console would initially appeal to the more casual gamers. And since Nintendo isn’t able to do that any longer, there’s a massive void left for Google and its own console to capitalize.

“Google, unlike Microsoft, has been able to look like the good guy”

Then there’s the issue of Microsoft. Although the software giant has become less of a threat to the average company, it’s still viewed unfavorably by millions of people around the globe. And Google, unlike Microsoft, has been able to look like the good guy against the evil software company.

That’s especially true in certain parts of Asia, where the Xbox 360 has been selling quite poorly over the years. Sales are abysmal in Japan, which is why Microsoft pushed back the country to “tier 2.” And Japan is really the crown jewel in the Asian gaming market.

A Google console could pick up the gamers in countries around the world that don’t want to invest in an Xbox for one reason or another. In some cases, it’ll be because of Android. In others, it’ll be all about Microsoft hatred. In still others, it would be the cheaper price on an Android console. Regardless, there’s a good chance Google could win over the gamers that Microsoft cannot.

Lastly, I think we need to fully understand the impact Android can have on the console market. It’s an operating system that’s already in use by millions around the globe. And porting games from that platform to a console wouldn’t be all that difficult. Best of all, the platform would launch with thousands of games in its library – a first for the console market.

If Google knows what it’s doing, the company will make it easier for gamers to play a title on their Galaxy S4 and then pick it up on their console at home. The company would also provide enough firepower in the console to handle both mobile games and more sophisticated titles that larger developers might want to deliver. And since the console is running on Android, there’s a good chance it’ll be cheaper than its competitors.

Sorry, but I don’t see anyway that an Android console wouldn’t succeed. And if it comes from Google, there’s a solid chance that it’ll have an even better chance of dominating the console market.

Like it or not, gamer preferences are changing. And now is the time for Google and its Android platform to capitalize.

EA up against Indian PC gamers in Twitter coup

Electronic Arts hasn’t been the most favored game publisher recently. They were crowned the worst company in America for the second year in a row, and their strict DRM policy isn’t really popular amongst gamers. To add insult to injury, the publisher is receiving more heat from PC gamers in India, as PC game prices are rising significantly.

ea-worst-company-497x500

Specifically, prices of EA games are going up at least 66% from last year, with some games even seeing a 133% increase. Last year, Battlefield 3 only cost around 1,200 rupees ($20), but Battlefield 4 will be priced at a whopping 3,499 rupees, or just shy of $60. As for console games, the price hike hasn’t been nearly as severe as PC games, which has the Indian PC community up in arms.

Currency exchange rates actually have very little to do with the price hikes. Instead, EA and its distributor are mostly just wanting to unify prices worldwide. EA wants to shift prices in India closer to international prices, which results in a huge price hike for EA games in India. This obviously isn’t going over so well.

Indian PC gamers have launched a Twitter campaign using the hastag #EAPCIndia to show EA how the price hike will negatively impact the PC gaming market in India, hinting to the possibility that piracy may be on the rise again.

As for whether or not EA will be backtracking on its decision to hike up prices in the country, it’s a coin toss, but knowing them, they like to keep their customers happy (for the most part), which we saw during the SimCity fiasco, where they ended up giving buyers free copies for their troubles. However, we’re not so sure that EA will pull a 180 on this one, seeing as how India isn’t a huge market for the game publisher in the first place.

Laser Minigun: Team Fortress 2: Blood Dragon

Patrick Priebe is no stranger to laserbased prop weapons, and Wicked Lasers is no stranger to borderline illegal lasers. Put the two together and this is what you get: a minigun replica that fires lasers instead of bullets. It has a laser sight too.

wicked lasers minigun by patrick priebe

Patrick is still working on the final prop; the one in the video below is just a prototype. The gun has six Spyder 3 Arctic lasers and one Spyder 3 Krypton laser. From what I saw in the video, the gun has an electric motor and a knob that can be used to adjust the barrel’s rotation speed. The Arctic lasers all fire at once though. Might as well call it the Eyebliterator.

He is Priebe Weapons Guy, and this is his new weapon.
