Dwight Howard Rumors: Warriors Reportedly In Mix, Decision Might Be Coming Friday

The reports of Dwight Howard’s visits with free agent suitors and of the various factors in his highly anticipated decision have gotten so numerous that an NFL reporter has gotten in on the action. ESPN’s NFL reporter Adam Schefter delivered perhaps the most important tidbit of the week on Thursday, tweeting that the 2013 edition of the “Dwightmare” could end on Friday.

The teams in the mix have made their pitches and Howard reportedly went to Colorado to weigh his options. Will he stay with the Lakers? Will a surprise team swoop in? Or will one of the Texas teams reel in Howard?

Light Of Faith Encyclical (Lumen Fidei) Written By Pope Francis And Pope Benedict

VATICAN CITY (RNS) Less than four months after being elected, Pope Francis published his first encyclical on Friday (July 5).

But the 82-page “Lumen Fidei,” (“The Light of Faith”) is only partially Francis’ work. As Francis himself told a group of cardinals and bishops in May, the encyclical was written “with four hands” together with retired Pope Benedict XVI.

Benedict had almost finished the text when he resigned on Feb. 28. Francis took up the unfinished work, adding a “few contributions” to Benedict’s “fine work” and publishing it under his own name.

Brian Read, College Baseball Pitcher, njured In Hot-Dog Eating Contest, Undergoes Surgery

It’s bad for a baseball player to choke in a clutch situation. It’s even worse in a hot-dog eating contest.

Unfortunately for 19-year-old Brian Read, a pitcher for the amateur Seacoast Mavericks, he did both.

The college sophomore not only finished last in a charity hot-dog eating competition on Sunday, but he underwent surgery Tuesday to dislodge a piece of frankfurter caught in his esophagus, Seacoast Online reports.

John Boehner: ‘Unemployment Rate Is Far Too High’

House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) reacted to Friday’s jobs report, casting the country’s economic growth situation as “tepid.”

In a statement released on his website, Boehner admitted that there was “some good news in this report,” but lamented that the “unemployment rate is still far too high.”

“Just look at the last few weeks: the president admits that his health care law is a drag on businesses; he threatens to veto a bill based on his own plan to make paying for college easier, then watches quietly as Senate Democrats let interest rates double; and he makes up new reasons to delay the Keystone pipeline in a speech about imposing a national energy tax,” he said. “Imagine how many jobs would be created if the president stopped trying to expand government and started working with Republicans on policies that create sustained economic growth and expand opportunity for all Americans.”

Blizzard testing WoW in-game purchases despite ongoing D3 debacle

Though the two are slightly different elements of in-game play, Blizzard has suggested a real-money transaction addition in World of Warcraft despite their less-than-stellar performance with real-money-trading in their other large-scale online game Diablo 3. This new system is said by one single developer on Blizzard’s team – alone in a forum, believe or not – to be part of an exploration of possibilities at the moment, and not quite solid as such.

wow_cash

Though the full system may never make it to the public iteration of the game, testing said system requires that some current in-game elements be tagged with mention of abilities. In this case it was a discovery by an intrepid player and seeker of behind-the-scenes answers that discovered it. Combined with a forum mention of a 100% XP boost in a spell appearing on the game’s public test server, here resulting in the following response from Blizzard:

“We are currently exploring the possibility of adding a way for players in certain regions to make purchases directly within the game. As part of this process, elements related to this will be appearing on the PTR. We’ll provide additional updates on our plans as development progresses.” – Community Manager Zarhym for Blizzard

At the moment there’s been just one similar system in place for the World of Warcraft experience, that being the “World of Warcraft shop” which allows purchase of oddities galore, but outside the game itself. The difference here with an in-game system is the ability to hit the “buy” button without leaving gameplay.

Meanwhile Diablo 3 has a system in place where real-money transactions can take place between players – and they’ve had their fair share of regrets. Though the systems would seem a bit different on the surface, both would have cash moving in through Blizzard first and foremost – so it’s instantly clear why the company would want to roll this all through major tests before any final unveil.

2014 Saleen 351 enters production: 700HP and orange all over

We’ve seen many great cars come out of Saleen’s factory in Corona, California, but none may be better than the car company’s most recent project. The 2014 Saleen 351, which was announced back in December at the LA Auto Show, is finally entering production, and it’s the rebirth of the 351 that was last seen in 1999.

What makes this newest car so unique? Well, the 2014 Saleen 351 is Saleen’s most powerful Mustang to date, and it features a 5.75-liter (351-cubic inch) V-8 motor that has a supercharger capable of cranking out 700 horsepower and 655 pound-feet of torque, which should get the job done on any race track we think.

The new 351 comes standard with a six-speed manual with a final gear ratio of 3.73:1. To keep things cool under pressure, the 351 is also fitted with an intercooler and high-flow fuel injectors to keep things running smoothly at high RPMs. The car also has 14-inch brakes with four-piston calipers to control the large 20-inch wheels.

However, it’s not just the exterior’s good looks and the engine that gives the Saleen 351 it’s uniqueness. The interior has two-tone leather and Alcantara trim, as well as a special dash plaque that comes with the car’s serial number, that way you’re getting a true Saleen car. The 351 will cost a reasonable $82,634, with a 3 year/36,000-mile limited warranty.

For me, I deeply admire John Paul II, but John XXIII is a great hero. For some friends of mine, that statement would be reversed. But all, I hope can rejoice today.

Bob Burnett: The Arc of the Moral Universe: Same-sex Marriage

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Americans have come out of the closet and in many places been allowed to live normal lives. It’s a tribute to the leadership of the LGBT movement that so much has been accomplished in such a (relatively) short amount of time.
