Panasonic GX7 digital camera leaks in new batch of images

Last week, the Panasonic GX7 leaked in the German magazine Foto, giving us a decent look at the camera, as well as a roster of its specifications, most of which were in line with leaks that had previously surfaced regarding the digital camera. Now the camera has leaked again, this time on the Japanese website Digicame, complete with several new images of the camera.

1

This latest leak shows the camera from four different angles: the front, top, back, and the back again, this time with the digital view finder raised. It matches the image seen in Foto Magazine, and the specs are likewise the same, again listing 16-megapixels rather than the 18-megapixels that had been reported in earlier leaks.

According to Digicame, the information was provided to them by an individual “who can be trusted.” By all accounts, this is a high-end digital camera, and is being styled after the Four Third L1 camera, giving it a nice retro look. Judging from the pictures, the camera’s body looks fairly slim (sans the lens, obviously), but does have a protruding handhold for gripping.

Says the source of this leak, the Panasonic GX7 features a 16-megapixel Digital Live MOS Sensor, as well as a 3-inch view finder with 1.04 million dots and the ability to tilt up to 80-degrees. The electronic view finder, meanwhile, is said to be tiltable up to 90 degrees, which is substantiated by the last picture in the batch. Both this leak and the last claims the EVF has 2.76 million dots.

Videos can be recorded in up to full 1920 x 1080/60p, while the shutter speed goes up to a fast 1/8000, and the ISO up to 25,600. As far as software goes, there’s said to be 22 filters of some sort, as well as panorama and a silent mode for candid image taking. Again we’re hearing that the camera has on-sensor stablization, as well as WiFi and NFC.

Chinese Apple Store Genius Bar Appointment Scalping Allegedly Happens

Chinese Apple Store Genius Bar Appointment Scalping Allegedly HappensDo you like dropping by to have a chat with the folks over at the Apple Store, especially the ones by the Genius Bar? Well, we have heard our fair share about the Genius Bar in the past, including the possibility of having double rows at the Genius Bar in Apple Stores to cater for a growing customer base which should result in a better customer and employee experience. Here we are with word from within China itself, that there were instances of profiteers who would completely book the Shangai Apple store’s Genius Bar reservations, followed by selling appointment slots online.

These alleged scalpers happen to place a 10 yuan ($1.60) price tag on each appointment, where upon payment, you as the purchasers would be provided with login information so that you can modify the appointment afterwards according to your needs. It is said that majority of the appointments have already been booked solid each time the reservation system opens at 4AM local time, although we are unable to verify this. How widespread is this remains to be seen, and assuming it does happen daily, who are the people behind it? Is it a syndicate, or just a bunch of folks who are out to make a quick buck?

Automated Wine Bar Serves You Drinks After Smartcard Transaction

Automated Wine Bar Serves You Drinks After Smartcard TransactionSelf-service seems to be the way to go, and human waiters as well as bartenders do seem to be a dying breed in the process as part of the “collateral damage” whenever restaurants and eating establishments deploy food serving robots. Well, a new wine bar that will be opening in the New York area intends to do away with the classic bartender, but rather, would prefer to have their customers obtain their drinks from an automated kiosk using a smartcard.

Known as the Park 112 in upper Manhattan, plans to unveil the self-serve wine bar service in August are already underway, where it will be “manned” (or should we say, machined?) by machines from an Italian company known as Enomatic. These wine kiosks are capable of serving up to eight different bottles simultaneously, where you as the customer would use the LCD touchscreen display alongside an RFID-embedded smartcard to place and pay for your order. Hmmm, it certainly lacks the human element as a bartender would know if you’re too tipsy and ask you to stop, not to mention he will be able to lend a listening ear whenever you have had a difficult day at the office. Guess this is the next step up from unique and weird vending machines, eh?

NES Controller And Laptop Control A Car

NES Controller And Laptop Control A CarRemember James Bond who used a Sony Ericsson handset to control his BMW 750iL in Tomorrow Never Dies? Well, that was clearly something only the MI6 is capable of coming up with in the movies, but what about real life? I guess life is not all that glamorous, where a couple of security experts who happen to work for DARPA have managed to find a way to control a vehicle – and this “hack” is done thanks to the assistance of a laptop as well as an old school NES controller. Yes sir, who would have thought that an controller of an 8-bit video game console would come in handy so many years down the road? As long as the laptop remains plugged into the vehicle’s diagnostic port, one was able to start and stop the engine, in addition to steer the vehicle with the NES controller itself.

We ourselves have seen our fair share of NES controller hacks and modifications, but this one by Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek would certainly rank somewhere at the top of our list. I guess the average car is vulnerable enough to be hacked, considering how more and more of them are starting to be more computerized. Be warned, however, that this duo did brick their fair share of cars before getting it right.

Gameboy Emulator Runs On Chromecast

Hmmm, we were there when Google’s $35 Chromecast dongle was announced to the world, and managed to share a demo walkthrough of it for those who were unable to attend the live event. A couple of days after the Chromecast announcement, we learned that the Chromecast app for Android was released, followed by confirmation of Chromecast support for Google TV. Of course, at such an attractive price point of $35 a pop, the Chromecast’s special offer of being accompanied by 3 months’ worth of free Netflix access was quickly snapped up, and not long after, we heard that Chromecast had already been rooted. Well, what is the latest about Chromecast today that warrants a spot of coverage? Apparently, a Gameboy emulator has been programmed to run on Chromecast.

In fact, it runs natively on the Chromecast device, but do bear in mind that it will still be shown off in a browser window, where you make use of the buttons on your computer’s keyboard to control the gameplay. I guess it would work just fine, considering how the Chromecast’s innards has a whole lot more processing muscle compared to the original Gameboy, but there is still a slight delay in the controls to get used to. Those who are interested can check out the source code and instructions to run this Gameboy emulator on Chromecast at Github.

Popular Idioms Translated to Actually Make Sense Today

When we tell the future children of the world that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, they’ll stare at their iPad and wonder what the hell a book is. Does that old fart mean an app? When we tell them to scratch our back and we’ll scratch theirs, they’ll wonder why are we even talking to each other in IRL. And when we say close, but no cigar… well, actually even I have no idea why that ever made sense.

Kevo lock up for pre-order tomorrow, starts shipping in September

Amongst the seemingly endless stream of companies looking to replace your house keys, Kwikset and UniKey’s Kevo system certainly seems one of the more promising options. When we had a chance to fiddle around with the device back in May, the companies didn’t have much to say in terms of release schedule. Turns out you’re going to have to wait until September to toss those keys in the trash — though you can get on the list for a unit of your own tomorrow, when Kevo goes up for pre-order at $219 a pop. More info after the break.

Windows Phone Instance App Fix

Windows Phone Instance App FixInstagram has not made its way to the Windows Phone platform (despite rumors in the past that stated it would be so), so if one is unable to have lobster, shrimp will have to do. In the case of not having Instagram on Windows Phone, there is a workaround through a third party app that is known as Windows Phone Instance. Unfortunately, Instance seemed to have run into its fair share of issues, showing users a message that reads, “Your username or password has changed.”

Basically, this issue was caused by Instagram as well as Instance, where the former demanded that clients who log into the service must have at least version 4.0 up and running, while Instance was spoofing 3.4.4. Fret not, it is not the end of the world, and there is a solution in store – all you need to do is restart the app a number of times, with the alternative being uninstalling and reinstalling the app, and the issue would be fixed. Has it worked for you yet?
