Linda The Security Robot

Right now, you can say that 100% of the bodyguards that heads of state as well as celebrities and anyone who deem themselves to be important enough to be protected, tend to be human, as I have yet to see an alien lifeform play the role of a bodyguard. The thing is, a future where a robot would take the place of a human bodyguard does sound rather unnerving, and you might actually be witness to the start of the robotic apocalypse today – via Linda, the robot security guard.

Before you think that “Linda” is a female version of the T-800, it is actually a robot who would come in handy when it concerns security as well as elderly care home resources. Linda does not come cheap, however, where it costs a whopping £25,000 robot that resembles a human-sized chess pawn, and since robots do not get tired, nor do they have a union to fight for better working conditions and a pay raise, Linda does seem to be the ideal “person” to have around an elderly nursing home, as humans sometimes are too fatigued to realize that one of the home’s residents there need urgent medical attention. Would you like to see a “male” version of Linda being manufactured as well?

There’s a report out there today appearing with the public dissemination of nearly-secret information site Public Intelligence that has the USA-centered Homeland Security organization and FBI showing Android as a threat for Malware nationwide. Oppo N1 Rear Touch Panel Confirmed

Oppo N1 Rear Touch Panel ConfirmedChinese manufacturer Oppo is said to be working on a new smartphone which is called the Oppo N1, and while there were initial whispers of a rear touch panel making its way to the handset, here we are with further confirmation. This particular touch panel that will be located on the upcoming flagship Oppo N1’s back does remind us of the volume keys that have been evicted from the sides and sent right to the bottom of the LG G2 where a major makeover is concerned, and Oppo themselves have already posted up an image to illustrate the position of the touch panel – where it would placed in the upper part of the back cover, which would mean it is right below the camera of the Oppo N1.

What do you think that Oppo will call this particular technology? We do know that China will be on the receiving end of a rather massive marketing campaign in order to promote the upcoming Oppo N1, including teasing it with images of an exposed back of a woman (that ought to draw more than its fair share of attention) as well as a toilet paper roll. Provocative at times, weird during others, it remains to be seen whether the high expectations surrounding the Oppo N1 will be able to be justified or not.

Japanese hobby shop ACG will be releasing this hilarious tea strainer and mug combo featuring the Colossal Titan from the popular manga and animé series Shingeki no Kyojin aka Attack on Titan aka the Game of Thrones of cartoons. Because when you’re in Attack on Titan, you die or you die.

I’m not sure how the tea strainer works. Does the tiny Colossal Titan have a compartment for tea bags or tea leaves? Or are you just going to tie the bag around it? All I know is that we should be grateful that it’s not the Armored Titan in there, because the mug isn’t going to last long against that bad dude.

Welcome to IRL, an ongoing feature where we talk about the gadgets, apps and toys we’re using in real life and take a second look at products that already got the formal review treatment.

IRL: Sony's NEX-5N interchangeable lens camera and Mailplane 3

It’s been a while (four months, actually) since we’ve featured a camera in “IRL,” but today we’re breaking that dry spell as we explain what it’s like to live with Sony’s NEX-5N. Meanwhile, Mailplane 3 is great for Gmail power users (or so says Darren), but you’ll need to own a Mac — and, you know, feel OK spending $25 for the update.

Google Brings Together The Past And The Present On The Web

Google Brings Together The Past And The Present On The WebGoogle, the most used search engine by the masses today, certainly has their fair share of products that have benefited mankind, and here we are with Google sharing a historic moment with the masses using the Web. This particular Web experience is the result of the work by Google’s friends Organic and Unit9, where it is known as “March on Washington” and was specially done up for the National Park Foundation. “March on Washington” is an online experience unlike never before, where you are invited to relive that particular moment in time as you listen in to an original recording of Dr. King’s words which is accompanied by immersive photography smack from the event itself.

It allows you to record yourself reciting Dr. King’s words, where you can also choose to play back other participants’ recordings as a crowd-sourced narrative of voices, in order to hear the timeless message repeated back from folks regardless of where they are from. What are some of the other future projects that you would like to see being shared with the masses? Certainly assassinations should not be part of it, despite being historical in nature, but rather, celebrations of joy and happiness ought to play a big role.

    Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 Unveiled

Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 UnveiledThe folks over at Micromax have come up with a smartphone that will not break the bank, and yet it looks set to being able to deliver a decent level of performance. The item in question would be the Micromax Canvas Doodle 2, which after conversion, should cost approximately $310 in an unlocked package. Apparently, this is an India-bound device, and it remains to be seen whether it will make an appearance elsewhere in the world or not, although we would not be betting too heavily on spotting this sporting a US mobile carrier logo anytime soon. Just what kind of hardware do you expect the Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 to pack underneath the hood?

For starters, it will feature a phablet-sized 5.7″ IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, which will result in a density of approximately 257ppi. This particular Micromax Canvas Doodle 2 happens to run on a quad-core MediaTek 6589 1.2GHz Cortex-A7 CPU, where it will be accompanied by 1GB RAM, a 2600 mAh battery, a 12-megapixel shooter at the back with a 5-megapixel shooter in front, Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean, and Full HD video recording capability. Not only that, you will find 16GB of internal memory to go along with it, although it will sadly lack a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.
