This week the folks at Omate have unveiled the Omate TrueSmart smartwatch formally, ushering in what they suggest is the dawn of “Smartwatch 2.0.” This second age of smartwatch technology is – according to Omate – one in which the full collection of abilities of the past generation are kept intact without the need of […]

Certain things are sacred.
Motorola’s new Skip NFC smartphone key is quite possibly the simplest gadget we’ve covered at Engadget. But simple as it may be, Skip is a time saver for Moto X users. The tiny device, comprised of an NFC tag, a small piece of fabric and a pair of magnets for securing to an article of clothing, such as a pants pocket or shirt sleeve, ships for free with all Moto Maker orders, and is available as a $20 add-on if you’ve purchased your Moto X directly from a carrier. It’s also bundled with three NFC-enabled stickers that you can affix to your car, a piece of furniture or a personal accessory, like a purse or wallet.
Setting up Skip takes only a few seconds. Assuming you have NFC enabled, tap the Moto X to the Skip or one of the bundled Skip Dots, and a configuration screen will pop up prompting you to pair your device with the tag. You’ll enter your password to complete the process, then any time you need to unlock your phone in the future, all you need to do is tap the two together. Skip might not be the best fit if you keep confidential corporate data on your handset, but assuming your password serves mostly to keep prying eyes away from personal email or text messages, it should do the trick. Catch Skip in action in our hands-on video after the break.%Gallery-slideshow73405%

Syrian Child Refugee Has Beautiful Outlook Despite Representing 1 Million Displaced Children (VIDEO)
Posted in: Today's ChiliAya, an 8-year-old Syrian refugee, hasn’t been to school in two years, but her ambitions still loom large. She takes care of her sister with disabilities in a small makeshift tent in Lebanon — all while dreaming of becoming a doctor.
Aya, whose family fled Syria more than two years ago, is a face among the 1 million children who have been forced to leave Syria since the onset of the country’s civil war, according to the UN.
“I love and miss Syria,” she says in a UN video. “They began to bomb our house. We couldn’t stay there any longer, we were crying a lot.”
“Harry Potter” star Jason Isaacs thinks that Hollywood’s gay casting is nothing short of “ridiculous.”
The actor, who played Lucius Malfoy in the “Harry Potter” series, recently spoke with The Telegraph about why gay actors choose to stay in the closet, saying he has a lot of gay friends who remain closeted because of the potential professional backlash.
“If you are a romantic lead, there is a perception — I don’t know if it is true or not — that you will no longer be cast as straight people,” he told the Telegraph. “Even when casting gay roles, there is a tendency to cast straight people, so they are lauded for their transformation. It’s ridiculous. The notion that a gay actor can’t seem like they are in love with a woman on screen is so patently absurd I can’t believe it still exists.”
In a milestone for Southern California’s beloved hamburger chain, In-N-Out will be opening its first ever location on tribal lands: the Morongo Indian Reservation.
The restaurant location, adjacent to the Morongo Casino off the 10 freeway in Cabazon, Calif., is set to open some time in 2014. The new restaurant is part of a larger development plan along the 10 freeway in the area on the way to the casino and outlets, reports Banning-Beaumont Patch.
“We are delighted that In-N-Out Burger has chosen the Morongo Indian Reservation as the home for its first restaurant ever on tribal land,” said Chairman Robert Martin of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians in a press release. “Given the current economic environment, Morongo is happy to be developing a new project that will not only bring new business activity and jobs to our region but will also generate future economic development opportunities.”
