As someone who wears glasses for the majority of my life, I can tell you just how important eye exams are, especially if there’s a small bit of change in my eyes. Being able to see the world with as much detail as possible is extremely important for me, especially when it comes to work. Unfortunately, not everyone can get to an eye doctor, especially if they live in remote parts of the world. A new smartphone-based portable eye exam kit, called Peek, is hoping to help those suffering eye problems without having to lug around expensive equipment. (more…)

All Hail The Hyetis Crossbow, The 41-Megapixel Smart Watch From Outer Space

Greetings, Earthling. I come bearing glad tidings of the Hyetis Crossbow, a smartwatch with built-in mechanical movement and a 41-megapixel “life camera” designed to record your every motion and emotion. The watch comes to you from the Deepest Corners Of Outer Space where it was (most probably) hatched from the egg of a cyborg lifeform. It costs one thousand and two hundred of your so-called “Earth Dollars.” We have written “Swiss Made” on the back to fool your puny minds.
Designed by those who brought you AK Geneve, another space-themed watch line, the Crossbow has a very small, 12mm mechanical movement built-in alongside a number of smartwatch features including accelerometers, an altimeter, Bluetooth, WiFi, NFC, and GPS – all of the primitive technologies you ape men still use on your horrid planet. It has two batteries built in so you can record your entire brutish life using the built-in camera.
It also has biometric sensors because, as we well know, you humans still pump liquids through your meatsacks. It will ship in December 2013 and the creator, one Arny Kapshitzer, promises that if anything changes in the feature line-up those who pre-order the watch will be notified. It is, to be clear, very expensive. This we cannot explain.
So please consider the purchase of the Crossbow. It is far more intelligent than you, to be sure, and, if you wear one, we Andromedans will not enslave you as our pack animals on the gas mines of Xarxis 7. Those who own a Crossbow will instead be used as our pets on our home planet of Zorb and be given leave to mate – under close supervision and with a great deal of genetic control – to maintain the propagation of your ridiculous species. At $1,200, this is a bargain.

R2-D2 and C-3PO are obviously best friends in that classic Odd Couple sense. R2 is a take charge kind of droid, while 3PO complains endlessly is is super prissy. If they were roommates, 3PO would be the neat freak. So, I guess it makes sense for them to have a best friends necklace to share.
This one from Etsy shop rapscalliondesign is perfect. Each droid can wear one half of the heart whenever they are apart and then presumably assemble it and hang it on the wall when they are together.
Stupid little short-circuit, R2. To which R2 will reply bleep bleep bleepity bleep blop blip – wWhich we all know means go jump in a sarlacc pit, but 3PO will take it as endearing anyhow.

Pandora’s adding a sleep timer to its Android and iOS app update. The new feature (found in the options drawer) lets you shut off your stream after 15, 30 or 60 minutes, so your data plan and sweet tunes aren’t wasted on deaf ears. [Pandora]

Rockstar Games updated the official website for Grand Theft Auto 5 a few weeks ago with some new screenshots as well as an interactive travelogue of Los Santos. We felt the update was a way to whet the appetite of GTA fans prior to the debut of Grand Theft Auto Online, although there were still a number of areas of the site that weren’t completely accessible. If you were curious to learn more about Los Santos, Rockstar Games has updated the GTA 5 website to highlight three new areas of recreational activity, as well as some new screenshots. (more…)
