Omate TrueSmart Waterproof 3G Android Powered Smartwatch

Omate TrueSmart Waterproof 3G Android Powered Smartwatch

Wearable gadgets are the future, or so it seems. A lot of companies are working on smartwatches. In one corner you have deep-pocketed companies such as Samsung, Apple and Microsoft, who are all rumored to be working on their smartwatch. In the other you have small companies that rely on crowdfunding for the money required to produce their creations. We’ve already covered a lot of such projects, Pebble, Agent and HOT Watch to name a few. There’s a new contender now that has already achieved half of its funding goal within 24 hours of being launched. Its the Omate TrueSmart, a 3G capable waterproof smartwatch that runs Android 4.2.2.

The TrueSmart has a 1.54 inch 240×240 pixel resolution LCD display, a 1.3GHz dualcore processor with 512MB of RAM, 4GB of on-board storage expandable up to 32GB via microSD, a 5 megapixel camera mounted on the side, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, Wi-FI and a 3G micro-SIM slot. Its IP67 waterproof, which makes it good for showers, swimming and jogging. The lowest one can pledge for a TrueSmart right now is $179, limited to 500 backers. Delivery is estimated to take place in November this year. The project has only been up on Kickstarter for merely one day, as of this writing it has received $58,241 in pledges and with 29 days to go, it may very well reach its goal of $100,000.

Google Keep notifications and Now integration added

Google Keep, the note-taking service launched to rival Evernote back in March, has been updated with notifications and Google Now integration, aiming to pull out relevant notes rather than wait for users to dig through them. The reminders system works both on time, as per a regular alarm, but also on location, meaning that the […]

iPhone 5C Purported Casing Scratch Test Conducted

iPhone 5C Purported Casing Scratch Test Conducted

Apple’s much rumored budget iPhone is widely known as the iPhone 5C, though this moniker hasn’t been officially confirmed, the company might end up calling this smartphone something else. Apple is expected to unveil iPhone 5C next month at an event on September 10th, the event has also not been confirmed as yet. Almost every other day we heard rumors about the iPhone 5C, we’ve seen identical purported casings leak each and every day. Today, a video of one such casing being subjected to a scratch test has been posted online.

The video was posted by Apple Daily, a Taiwanese website. The purported casing is thrown into a plastic bag with keys and shaken. We also see the back being scratched with a car key. It appears that the polycarbonate shell of iPhone 5C will be resistant to such scratches. However this isn’t exactly a full blown durability test. For example, we still don’t know how the casing will perform if it falls flat on the sidewalk or any other surface. Without the display, caliper measurements of this casing reveal a thickness of 8.98mm. This is greater than the iPhone 5, which is only 7.6mm thick despite the fact that it is fashioned out of aluminium and glass.

Google Keep update adds location and timed reminders, improves photo attachment

Google Keep update adds location and timed reminders, improves photo attachment

Google’s Keep still isn’t quite as robust as competitors like Evernote, but an update rolling out today is narrowing the gap slightly. Mountain View is bringing both location- and time-based reminders to its note-taking app, dramatically increasing its utility as a task management tool. Sure, it won’t let you set recurring events or assign duties to people, but it can nudge you to take care of the seating chart for your wedding or pop up your grocery list when you walk in to a Western Beef. Adding a reminder is as easy as tapping the “remind me” button at the bottom of any note, selecting the type of reminder then punching in the appropriate location or time. Any alarms can be snoozed or changed if it turns out to be an inopportune time. Google has also finally added an option to attach an existing photo when creating or editing a note — a feature that clearly should have been included on day one. Lastly, there’s a bit of a UI shuffle, with the now nearly ubiquitous sliding navigation drawer being added to the left-hand side. As is usual with these sorts of things, the update is rolling out in waves, so just keep checking the Play store for updates.
