Tech Ad Parody Video Is Hilarious

Over the past couple of years we have seen a variety of advertisements tech companies have released for their products. While each advertisement takes a different route, they do have a certain “theme” to it and it is this theme that the folks at College Humor have decided to parody. For instance they poke fun at how a majority of these ads seem to rely on indie rock music, or young people with creative-type jobs, cute children, and even similar editing styles!

We have to admit that it is pretty spot on in terms of its parody, and all you’d have to do is insert a product name and the actual product into the video itself and well, you might never know the difference! In any case if you’re looking for a little bit of humor to end the week with, take a couple of minutes out of your day and check it out in the video above. So what do you guys think? Do you agree with the parody that most tech ads seem to made along these lines?

Microsoft’s $100 Surface Pro price cut to stick around, accessory discounts incoming (update: worldwide)

In a move that should surprise few, that August price cut for Microsoft’s Surface Pro — which now starts at $799 for the 64GB version — will remain in effect permanently. WPCentral has also revealed a $40 discount on Touch Covers, that now start at $79, and $50 off of the Surface RT tablet / touch cover bundle that starts at $399. The bundle pricing should kick in today although we’re not seeing it live on the Microsoft Store yet. According to a statement from Microsoft (included after the break) this is based on customer’s “exciting” response to the recent price drops. So, is this enough of a push for you to grab a slate (or two) right now, or would you rather wait for the sequel?

Update: While the original Surface Pro discount only applied in a few locales, we’re hearing that the price in several European and Asian countries is also dropping. Word on price cuts for the accessories has varied from place to place, so depending on your location you may want to keep an eye out.

The two have worked together on a number of films and are the writers of the “Night at the Museum” movies. Their latest collaboration is “Hell Baby,” a horror-comedy that tells the ridiculous story of what happens when a couple who’s expecting twins moves into a haunted New Orleans home.

Tom, Ben, and Jeff chat about what it was like working on “Hell Baby,” how Goldeneye 007 for Nintendo 64 almost destroyed “The State,” and some of their favorite “Reno 911!” characters.

Be sure to catch “Hell Baby” on-demand now and in theaters September 6. Also, please check out Ben and Tom’s highly entertaining Reddit AMA.

Deja vu: SimCity has another error-filled launch

A great game marred by seemingly neverending issues. Even PC players are still encountering gameplay errors gone long unfixed.

    (Credit: Electronic Arts)

For now, it’s probably not a good idea to check into SimCity if you’re visiting with a Mac computer. Following a similar disastrous launch seen with its PC counterpart earlier this year, SimCity for Mac, which launched Thursday, has sent numerous Apple computer users scrambling to figure out why their game isn’t working.

A forum post started by frustrated SimCity Mac users on an Electronic Arts discussion board has pages and pages of posts, indicating that the problem could be widespread.

A Maxis representative, however, told CNET that “there are a small number of players who have encountered issues with SimCity for Mac. Our live team is working individually with our players to resolve their issues and get them into the game as quickly as possible.”

So what’s wrong? Several things, it seems.

Let’s get this out of the way first: SimCity for Mac requires OS X 10.7.5, meaning that those with 10.7.4 (and previous) will not be able to play. EA confused prospective users by originally saying the game required OS X 10.7.# — an obvious … [Read more]

Shazam 4.0 for Android arrives with redesigned interface and faster sound scans

Shazam 40 for Android brings a redesigned interface with tablet support

Shazam’s Android app has needed a makeover for a while; even with tablet support, the sound identification tool has felt more at home in 2011 than 2013. The company is delivering that overdue redesign today with the launch of Shazam 4.0. The new app gives Android users a modern, Holo-inspired interface that scales to all Android devices, including a wider variety of tablets. It also brings the iOS version’s faster sound scans and more dynamic listening screen. While there aren’t many other changes, there’s more than enough here to justify grabbing the update through Google Play.

Hold on to your bricks: Jurassic Park Lego needs visitors

Fire up the John Williams score, and hold on to your butts!

“Jurassic Park” captured the imagination of countless dinosaur fans around the world, and now artist Sami Mustonen aspires to bring that movie magic to brick lovers.

Mustonen launched a “Jurassic Park” Lego set, a project 65 million years in the making, on Lego’s Kickstarter-esque Web site Cuusoo. At the time of this writing, Mustonen has more than 3,700 votes out of the 10,000 needed — a figure that Lego requires before officially considering the project.

When “Jurassic Park 3D” came around earlier this year, Mustonen was bit by a prehistoric bug of inspiration and set out to make a Lego version of the mammoth Jurassic Park entrance gate, the big scary T-Rex, and the colorful tour truck (a souped-up Ford Explorer). Naturally, Mustonen also designed detailed minifigures of Dr. Alan Grant, Dr. Ellie Sattler, and smooth operator Dr. Ian Malcolm to round out the set.
