Babolat Play Is First Connected Racquet In The World

Babolat Play Is First Connected Racquet In The WorldWe live in an extremely connected society these days – our homes can be connected to an app on our smartphones, where we can then choose to turn on the lights and heating (or air conditioning) remotely, ensuring that we will arrive home to a comfortable setting and environment. How about our cars? They too, are connected via the likes of a smart dashboard for the newer models, but a piece of regular sports equipment like a racquet? This makes the Babolat Play unique, as it holds the distinction of being the first connected racquet in the world.

The full name of this tennis racquet is the Babolat Play Pure Drive, where it will first launch in the US later this December before a global distribution kicks off in 2014. The whole idea of the Babolat Play is to gather the right kind of data in order to quantify your game and skills, ensuring that you can take the relevant and necessary steps to improve on your technique and strokes for future games. Not only that, you can also share your information with other Babolat Play owners, and the kind of information collected include shot power and ball impact location (sweet spot), the number of strokes (forehand, backhand, serve, smash), spin level, total and effective play time, endurance, technique, consistency, energy and rallies. The asking price for such a special racquet? $399. [Press Release]

Samsung 98-Inch Ultra HD Video Wall To Appear At IFA 2013

Samsung 98 Inch Ultra HD Video Wall To Appear At IFA 2013What is it that you like about tradeshows the most? Is it the insane number of new devices that we can look forward to, or is it the free food at the press room that hungry journalists are able to tuck into? Perhaps it is the presence of booth babes who are somehow able to distort reality, and make whatever is released seem to perform and look better than it actually is? Regardless, IFA 2013 in Berlin, Germany is set to be a blast, and we have word that Samsung will be introducing a new 98-inch Ultra HD “video wall” for commercial purposes.

That particular video wall sure as heck seems as though it is going to be a blast, and I cannot imagine the kind of eye popping visuals that can be shown off in it. Of course, there will also be other side additions such as a 31.5-inch Ultra HD monitor, but you can bet your bottom dollar that most of the attention will be concentrated on the video wall from Samsung. 98-inches is definitely not something you can sneeze at, but there is always the issue of price that will hang over most people’s heads – is it affordable enough for smaller businesses to justify such a purchase? Kyocera Hydro Elite Unveiled By Bear Grylls

It was just yesterday when we brought you word that the Kyocera Hydro Elite is set to arrive on Verizon Wireless this 29th of August, 2013, and for those living on the East coast, that time is now. In fact, you can check out the ad above concerning the Kyocera Hydro Elite which will see famed adventurer Bear Grylls unveil the device during his off-air season.

I guess having such a character use the Kyocera Hydro Elite makes plenty of sense, especially when you consider just how hardy this particular smartphone is, being an IPX7-certified water resistant smartphone that is capable of lasting for up to 30 minutes under water, as long as it does not go beyond a meter in depth, of course. Other hardware specifications of the Kyocera Hydro Elite will include a 4.3” 720p display, a dual-core 1.2GHz processor, an 8-megapixel shooter at the back with a 1.3-megapixel camera in front, NFC and LTE connectivity, and a 2100 mAh battery. It will have Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as the operating system of choice right out of the box, accompanied by some kind of proprietary skin from Kyocera. Don’t you suppose that if it is good enough for Bear Grylls, it should be good enough for the rest of us? [Product Page]

Moto X Kernel Source Code Released

Moto X Kernel Source Code ReleasedThe Moto X, proudly made in the good ol’ US of A, from Motorola, has been made available over AT&T for nearly a week now, and it is also tipped to arrive tomorrow via online orders through another of the big four mobile carriers Stateside – namely, Verizon Wireless. As for the other carriers, they have more or less remained mum on the specific release dates, but it seems that Motorola has been impatient on those additional releases, having posted the kernel source code for the AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint variants of the Moto X.

Just to make sure that everyone who reads this is on the same page, the kernel source code that was posted is not the full source code that comes with the relevant and necessary binaries which would be required if one were to churn out their very own custom ROM for the Moto X. The kernel source code does, however, carry enough with it so that those who are equipped with the relevant technical know how will still be able to tinker with it, creating some very nice uses for modders, including churning out their own custom kernels that can subsequently be used to overclock the Moto X or perhaps even make its power efficiency levels increase.

Google’s Hugo Barra Resigns, To Join Xiaomi Of China

Google’s Hugo Barra Resigns, To Join Xiaomi Of ChinaThe lure of China is undeniable – the sleeping dragon has long awakened and has flexed its muscles, and when China sneezes, the world catches the flu. In fact, we have seen many companies setting up their presence in China – after all, when you are the most populous nation in the world, that is the market that you ought to tap. We have seen soccer players make the lucrative jump to China as a marquee signing in the twilight of their careers just for a quick buck, and this time around, we hear Google’s top Android executive Hugo Barra leaving the Internet search giant to join forces with Chinese phone manufacturer Xiaomi.

How will this change the way Xiaomi works in the future remains to be seen, but we are quite sure that Barra’s wealth of experience and insight into the industry would make Xiaomi a company to watch out for in the near and immediate future. We do hope that this departure will not destabilize the Android universe, since it has proven to be one of Google’s more important projects in recent memory. Earlier this March, Andy Rubin stepped down from the Android department to “start a new chapter at Google.” Let us keep our fingers crossed that a suitable replacement for Barra has been found. In the mean time, you can read all that Barra has to say about his leaving of Google, or skip right after the jump to get the full skinny.

Mystery HTC Device Spotted, Runs On Android

Mystery HTC Device Spotted, Runs On AndroidHTC might not be in the best shape at this point in time as a company, as they have definitely seen far better days before this, but their HTC One did make plenty of waves – more often than not ringing in its fair share of bouquets as it is a pretty solid flagship smartphone. Hopefully future handsets from HTC will be able to follow in the HTC One’s footsteps though. Still, we have seen some leaked images of the HTC One Max in recent times, where some folks claim that the fingerprint sensor is not going to make its way there to the market, while other leaks tout otherwise. I guess we will just have to sit down and wait patiently, but this time around, yet another leak of an unknown HTC smartphone has been spotted.

Seen somewhere in China, this unknown HTC smartphone ought to arrive with mid-range or entry level specifications, including a display of approximately 4” thereabouts with a WVGA resolution, where it will carry 1GB RAM, 8GB of internal memory, a 1.3-megapixel camera right up front, with a 5-megapixel shooter located in the back. Rumor has it that this unknown device will cost you around $210 a pop. As to whether it will make its way outside of China remains to be seen.
