Twitter Tweaks Conversations View On Apps And Website

Twitter today announced that it has released update iOS and Android apps with a new conversations view, the same update has been made on twitter.com as well. This interface change will make it easier for users to view entire conversations on the microblogging network. Entire conversations between users will now be displayed instead of single tweets being displayed at a time. A vertical blue line will indicate non-chronological tweets in conversations.

The most recent three tweets from any conversation are now shown on the home timeline. To see more, users can tap a tweet to see all replies, including those from people who don’t follow that particular user. Sharing conversations has been made easier as well. From twitter.com, conversations can be shared over email with people whether or not they are on Twitter. From the iOS and Android apps, individual tweets can be shared over email. Users can also share via direct message on Android. Twitter has also made it easier to report individual tweets for abuse or spam directly from the Android app and the website. This feature is already available on the iPhone and will rollout gradually for Android and the website. Twitter app experience for entry-level Android smartphones has also been improved.

Facebook releases cross-platform SDK for Unity titles, looks to boost 3D and mobile gaming

If the folks from Facebook and Unity have their way, you — and everyone you know — will be playing mobile 3D titles directly on the social network. The two companies have been working together since March to boost user engagement with games on Facebook, and a cross-platform SDK released today should go a long way toward reaching a broader audience. Available for download via Unity’s developer site, the new kit lets devs port their mobile games to Facebook.com and integrate social experiences — such as posting achievements to your Timeline — into core titles, regardless of whether gamers are on Android, iOS or the web. And the companies are making this process quite easy for devs; bringing titles to several platforms only requires a line of code.

A handful of games, including Cmune’s UberStirke, Madfinger’s Shadowgun: Deadzone and Nival’s King’s Bounty: Legions, have already incorporated the new SDK, and Unity is no doubt hoping that other devs will follow suit. This isn’t the first time the gaming engine has extended a helping hand to developers — it’s been known to drop licensing fees, for instance. Here’s hoping this means a wider selection of Facebook titles is just around the corner.

A Former 1900s Coal Mine Reborn as a Modernist’s Playground

A Former 1900s Coal Mine Reborn as a Modernist's Playground

Post-industrial cities have long struggled to find new uses for the (often gargantuan) factory infrastructure that once made their towns boom. Usually, that means a park or a museum. But a few cities—like Genk, Belgium—have tried a more experimental approach, turning these decrepit sites into unusual creative spaces.

A Brief History of the Videophone That Almost Was

A Brief History of the Videophone That Almost Was

The videophone is one of those technologies that more or less snuck up on us. Promises that one day you’d not only be able to hear but see a person through your telephone are nearly as old as the telephone itself. The videophone spent nearly a century as every bit as much a "technology of the future" as the flying car and the jetpack. We were always this close to making our picturephone dreams come true. And then we did, in a way no one expected.

Comfort Cast Makes Broken Arms Look Almost Desireable

Whenever you have a broken limb, life can get quite difficult. There aren’t plenty of ways that you can make it better, however, sticking a screen on it and completely modernizing is something I hadn’t thought about before now.

The Comfort Cast concept by Kyuho Song is definitely an improvement over a traditional cast. You can use the e-Ink screen to Facebook your status, and it will even allow doctors to monitor your condition remotely, and has a media player built in. It even has an air pressure system so the cast can be adjusted.

The system includes a charging and disinfection system which makes the Comfort Cast reusable too. It’s going to be interesting to see if something like this will ever be available. Hopefully, you’ll be able to rent them directly from hospitals and give them back once you’ve fully recovered.

This Ancient Kodak Camera Let Photographers Sign Their Work

This Ancient Kodak Camera Let Photographers Sign Their Work

These days there’s a mountain of extra data saved every time you snap a digital photo. So figuring out where and when a shot was taken requires minimal detective work. Back in the days of film it wasn’t so easy, so Kodak built a camera in 1914 called the Autographic that let photographers sign and denote their shots for easy reference later on. Basically, it was the world’s first camera with EXIF data.
