Netflix Multi-User Profiles Launched For iOS, Apple TV And More

Netflix Multi User Profiles Launched For iOS, Apple TV And More

Last month Netflix announced that it would be launching multi-user profiles this summer. Despite the fact that a subscription to Netflix only costs $8 per month, many subscribers are likely to share their subscriptions with family members or friends. Sharing one profile meant that all users would have to deal with suggestions and recommendations that were generated based on everyone’s viewing habits. Multiple profiles on a single account will allow each user to have his or her own profile, and thus his or her own set of personalized suggestions and recommendations.

Individual user profiles will also have their own Recently Watched lists and Instant Queue. Each profile can also be connected to Facebook so as to pull in personalized suggestions from friends on the social network. Netflix says that user profiles will roll out for iOS, Apple TV and other devices such as PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and new Blu-ray players and Smart TVs in the next few days. Support for Android and Nintendo Wii has also been promised. It was only a couple of days ago when we spotted multi-user profiles popping up in Apple TV, the feature is now finally being rolled out for everyone.

TV shows come to Google Play UK

The British have had access to Google Play Movies for months, but they’ve been denied TV shows — an unusual omission given the country’s rich broadcasting history. All is now right with the world, however, as Google now offers TV episodes through the UK’s Google Play Store. The early catalog focuses on shows from big local networks, such as the BBC and Channel 5, as well as imports from the colonials (read: Americans). Brits keen on streaming Sherlock just have to visit Google Play to start watching.

BBM For Android Splash Screen Pictured

BBM For Android Splash Screen Pictured

A few months ago BlackBerry announced that it would be releasing BlackBerry Messenger a.k.a BBM for both iOS and Android. Back then the company said that we should expect the launch to take place this summer. As yet BlackBerry has not provided a release date, but it is expected that BBM for both platforms will be coming in the next couple of weeks. The cross-platform BBM beta has already been seeded to a select few users of the BlackBerry Beta Zone, invitations to testers for the Android version have reportedly gone out as well. Today we pick up on a picture of BBM for Android, a picture of its splash screen to be precise.

The splash screen doesn’t reveal anything about the interface of the app itself. Its evident that users will have to create a BlackBerry ID regardless of which platform they’re on. This is the first time in the company’s history that its opening up the once famed BBM service to other platforms. It remains to be seen how BBM will perform in this competitive niche, where you already have players such as WhatsApp and Viber, which handle billions of messages across different platforms every single day. CyanogenMod 10.2 Will Come With “Global Blacklist” For Blocking Calls Or Texts

CyanogenMod 10.2 Will Come With Global Blacklist For Blocking Calls Or Texts

Soon after Google announced Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, the folks at CyanogenMod made their own little announcement. They have begun work on CM 10.2 ROMs. David Van Tonder took to Google+ to reveal a feature that would be included in CM 10.2 ROMs. Called “Global Blacklist,” it will allow users to block text messages and calls, even both if they want to. The feature will be configurable through Messaging, Phone and Settings. It will also be available to third party apps through a “content provider API.”

The Holo compliant interface means that the feature will blend in with the rest of the Android 4.3 environment. Users will be able to type or select numbers to block from their address book. Numbers can also be added to the blacklist from the in-call screen, the call history screen, the quick reply popup as well as the Conversation screen in the Messaging app. Users will be able to enforce the type of blocking, whether they just want to block texts from a particular number or calls. Notifications will be displayed with an unblock action, users will be able to allow a number to be whitelisted so that calls or messaging, or both, can reach the user. No word as yet when we can expect CM 10.2 ROMs to be released.
