Twitter now displays conversations in chronological order (video)

Twitter update streamlines conversations, displays them in chronological order video

Twitter has always been a great place to discuss hard-hitting news (like Miley Cyrus’ puzzling evolution), but following conversations can feel a bit like a mining expedition. The company has taken note, and a new update to the website, iOS and Android apps — available today — makes engaging in conversations on Twitter a much more intuitive process. Now, the first tweet in a chain will show up on your timeline above the replies, allowing you to read the conversation in chronological order. Up to two subsequent related tweets will be connected to the first by a vertical blue line; for lengthy conversations, you can continue reading with a simple tap. To learn more, check out Twitter’s video after the break.

Xbox One Launch Supply Constraint Rumors Rubbished

Xbox One Launch Supply Constraint Rumors Rubbished

It was reported yesterday that Xbox One launch supplies might be constrained due to poor yield rates of a few components. Microsoft has already reduced Xbox One launch markets to meet demand, yesterday’s report seemed to make sense because of that. However, a few “supply chain players” have rubbished the rumor, claiming that the shipment forecast for Microsoft’s latest console has not been reduced. This report comes from infamous trade publication Digitimes.

Lite-On IT, which reportedly supplies Xbox One’s Blu-ray drive, said that it doesn’t comment on clients or orders, but said that its optimistic about its gaming business. The report cites sources who claim that the Blu-ray drive is a mature product and even though the optical disc drive needs to have better stability and performance for gaming consoles as opposed to PCs, there shouldn’t be any issues with the yield rate. Newmax, thought to be the camera module supplier for the new Kinect, said that current yield rates are in line with original planning. Since Microsoft hasn’t released any numbers about its shipment goals or the pre-orders received for Xbox One, it hasn’t commented on rumors of supply constraints. It was previously said that Xbox One would be released on November 8th, a new report today claims that the release will happen on a different date in November.

ASUS PadFone Infinity with Snapdragon 800 could simply be ‘The new PadFone Infinity’

ASUS' Snapdragon 800 refresh of the PadFone Infinity could simply be 'The new PadFone Infinity'

Following the original ASUS PadFone Infinity (A80) with Snapdragon 600 SoC, rumors of a new “PadFone Infinity A86” (or “PadFone T004”) go as far back as July 20th, with benchmark evidence showing a more powerful Snapdragon 800 enabling this mysterious device. While details are still light, several eagle-eyed PadFone fans have started noticing a new name on ASUS’ tech support page: “The new PadFone Infinity.” Assuming this is more of an official name and less of a placeholder, it looks like we’ll be seeing an identical-looking device sporting Qualcomm’s latest piece of silicon; and perhaps a launch is imminent — maybe at IFA next week? But ASUS, it really wouldn’t hurt if you guys can throw in a microSD slot plus a dedicated keyboard dock as well this time. Remember the original PadFone? Good times.

How Astronauts Use the Toilet: It’s More Complicated Than You Think

Here’s our favorite astronaut and yours, Cmdr. Chris Hadfield, giving a simple, English language version of how going to the bathroom is complicated by being in space, the, ahem, dangers inherent in introducing poop to zero gravity environments. You might already know this stuff, or you might not, but Hadfield makes it as fun and informative and, erm, digestible as you could ask for. [Laughing Squid]

    Hands-On: Xbox One Review

Hands On: Xbox One ReviewAs people are getting anxious about getting their next-gen consoles in time for Christmas (a Nov 8 release was rumored, then it got debunked but although supply is said to be constrained), it is clear that most buyers will order theirs before we get the retail unit that we ordered last month. With that in mind, I thought that it may be useful if we did put together a hands-on review of the Xbox One based on our experience from E3 2013 and the demos of the hardware and some games that we got behind closed doors.

With Xbox One, Microsoft bets that it can go beyond traditional gaming and by requiring Kinect to be part of the base package, it hopes that developers will push Kinect development further since it can benefit all Xbox One users. Microsoft is also pushing for a better integration with TV services and with live TV. Although is this mainly a U.S thing at the moment, it could expand abroad, eventually. Let’s take a closer look at the Xbox One. (more…)

Apple Reportedly Launching New iPads As Well On September 10th

Apple Reportedly Launching New iPads As Well On September 10th

A few weeks ago it was rumored that Apple will host an event on September 10th to launch its new iPhones. Since then there has been no conflicting report, so it is widely believed right now that the company’s iPhone announcement will take place next month on the aforementioned date. As far as the iPads are concerned, Apple is rumored to release the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 later this year, possibly around the holiday season. However, if a new Bloomberg report is to be believed, the company might unveil the new tablets alongside the new iPhones on September 10th.

Apple is expected to launch two iPhones this year, the iPhone 5S and its much rumored budget smartphone, the iPhone 5C. It hasn’t confirmed release plans as yet, it hasn’t even rolled out invites for an event. The Bloomberg report actually focuses about Apple planning to open its first retail store in Tokyo since 2005, but as you read on, you’ll find that it says “The Cupertino, California-based company plans to introduce new versions of its phone and tablet at a Sept. 10 event,” citing a person familiar with the matter, as always. This report also claims that Apple has promised “several more game changers” as it looks to fend off competition from Samsung. The Korean giant is going to release its smartwatch on September 4th. Is this an indication of Apple launching its hotly anticipated iWatch in the future? One can’t say for sure, so lets just wait and see what happens.
