Oculus Rift latency tester now available for pre-order, knows better than your eyes

Oculus Rift latency tester now available for preorder, knows better than your eyes

Sure, you could try and measure the motion-to-photons latency present in various Oculus Rift virtual reality games using your naked eye, but the latency tester Oculus just put up for pre-order is much easier and far more accurate. As demonstrated by Oculus Rift inventor Palmer Luckey in the video after the break, simply pop off one of the Rift dev kit’s two lens caps and pop on the latency tester. After plugging it in via mini-USB, the tester reads the latency per eye and outputs a number on the rear — voila ici.

Like with so many things Oculus, folks who put in their name early have first crack at the latency tester. The rest of us can put in our names now for pre-order and they’ll start shipping out in early October — Oculus tells us, “they’re sitting in our warehouse now, waiting for new homes.” If you’re looking to get in on the action you probably shouldn’t wait, as only a “limited quantity” is available for now, though more could be produced “based on demand.”

Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon mock #hashtagmania

#hashtagliatelle?

(Credit: ‘Late Night’/Screenshot by Chris Matyszczyk/CNET)

You know that something’s caught on once Facebook tries to copy it.

So you know, hashtags are a very big deal.

Everyone’s creating them. Though it’s not entirely clear why they’re creating them. Is it to summarize something they’ve just said? Is it in the hope that someone else will admire the hashtag so much that they’ll use it in their own tweets?

Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake think it’s all gone too far. It’s #notbringingsexyback.

So on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” Fallon and Timberlake attempted a conversation with hashtags being spoken out loud.

RealNetworks Launches RealPlayer Cloud

Remember how popular RealNetworks was with its RealPlayer media player back in the late 90s and early 2000s? It seems there were a high number of videos online that were transcoded into the RealPlayer format, making it nearly impossible to not have a version of the media player on your computer during its peak in popularity. It looks like RealNetworks is attempting to rather big comeback with a new piece of video software as well as storage solutions that will make it possible for its customers to share videos across different devices. Galaxy Note 3 SIM limitations surface for first pre-orders

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has appeared in its first box orders to retailers with a note that suggests not all models will work with all carriers. Amazon Kindle Fire HD goes easy on your bank account

kindle-fire-hdDespite what the economists have told you, not every part of the world is doing well, and despite that, some of us do want to own a tablet for us to while our time away. Well, Amazon has heeded that call, and just in case you are unable to purchase one of their recently announced higher end Kindle Fire HDX models with LTE connectivity, you might want to settle for something which is pretty proficient at what it does best without burning too large a hole in your pocket along the way. We are referring to the all new $139 Kindle Fire HD, where it will arrive in a slimmer as well as lighter form factor amongst other features.

The new Kindle Fire HD will also provide you with access to the exclusive benefits of the Amazon ecosystem, where among it will include the likes of Prime Instant Video, Kindle Owners’ Lending Library, Kindle MatchBook, AutoRip, and the world’s leading digital catalog with over 27 million movies, TV shows, songs, apps, games, books, audiobooks, and magazines.

Despite the relatively affordable price in comparison to its rivals, the Kindle Fire HD is not one that comes with less inferior hardware. No sir, the display itself, while not Full HD, delivers 1280 x 800 resolution and 216 pixels per inch, while a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor gets things done in a jiffy. Your ears too, will definitely be able to appreciate the dual stereo speakers with Dolby Digital Plus audio, where all of that has been crammed into a new slim chassis so that it resembles that of the new Kindle Fire HDX.

With dual-band Wi-Fi, it should not be an issue for you to experience fast streaming, downloads, and web browsing, while the operating system which the Kindle Fire HD runs on would be Fire OS 3.0 “Mojito” that will arrive with hundreds of new and upgraded features, platform updates, and Amazon-exclusive services. Amazon has already started to take pre-orders for the device, and shipping for the Kindle Fire HD will begin this October 2nd onward.

Another Cool Star Wars Bedroom Built for Some Lucky Kid

I never got a Star Wars themed room when I was growing up. These days are getting spoiled rotten with AT-ATs in their bedrooms. The joke is on them because when they get older they will not know how to sleep without such nerd trappings. Actually, I’m just jealous.

This bedroom was made by a friend of Reddit contributor mcalis2. It has a Millenium Falcon/X-Wing Fighter bedspread, an AT-AT on the shelf next to a Boba Fett head, a Wampa skin rug, even lightsabers on the wall.

This kid goes to sleep every night dreaming about a galaxy far far away, while the rest of us just listen to our mates snore and wish we had such an awesome bedroom.
