Dell no longer selling its XPS 10 Windows RT tablet, wants you to buy the Latitude 10 instead (updated)

Dell no longer selling its XPS 10 Windows RT tablet, wants you to buy the Latitude 10 instead (updated)

If you’re dead-set on a Windows RT tablet, it’s increasingly looking like the Surface 2 will be your only option. After Samsung and Lenovo discontinued their respective devices, Dell is also apparently giving up on the beleaguered OS: the XPS 10 is no longer listed for sale on Dell’s site. What’s more, the company is pointedly suggesting that users buy the Latitude 10 instead (that’s a tablet running full Windows 8, with a more powerful Atom processor under the hood). Of course, it’s possible Dell’s just sold out for the moment, but given the unpopularity of Windows RT devices in general, and the fact that Dell declined to refresh the XPS 10 with another RT device, we’re guessing not. At any rate, we’re asking Dell for comment and will let you know if we hear anything.

Update: Dell wouldn’t confirm or deny that the Dell XPS 10 has been discontinued. Instead, a rep for the company gave us this coy statement: “We’re going to be announcing our full tablet portfolio at the event in New York next week and will be providing full details then.” See you guys on October 2nd, then.

GTA Online Believed To Receive Microtranscations Treatment [Rumor]

GTA Online Believed To Receive Microtranscations Treatment [Rumor]

Just the other day, we reported on a rumor Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto 5 could possibly be jumping onto the microtransaction bandwagon in the near future. The rumor originated from someone on Reddit who happened to stumble onto the game requesting an XML file hosted on Rockstar’s site when attempting to access the store section in the game’s pause menu. It looks like if Rockstar Games is planning on offering microtransaction within Grand Theft Auto 5, it’ll be doing so once Grand Theft Auto Online launches.

The images Reddit user 1880 found look to offer in-game credit that range from $100,000 all the way up to $1.25 million in-game cash. In addition to those images, the following description was also found in the XML file:

“Cash is king in this town. Solve your money problems and help get what you want across Los Santos and Blaine County with the purchase of cash packs for Grand Theft Auto Online. All purchased cash is automatically deposited into your character’s bank account. Spend wisely, cash therapy is fleeting.”

At this point, Rockstar isn’t commenting on this recent discovery, although if Rockstar plans on making microtransactions possible in Grand Theft Auto Online, we’re sure they’ll make their announcement closer to its launch, which will take place on October 1.

Amazon Kindle Fire HDX ushers in third generation era of tablets

kindle-fire-hdxWhen it comes to the world of tablets, most folks are torn between the iOS-powered models from Apple, namely the iPad and iPad mini, as well as the Android-powered tablets which seem to come in all sorts of screen sizes from a slew of manufacturers. However, the folks over at Amazon are not blind to the situation, and to see them make an announcement concerning the third generation of tablets from their Kindle shows that they have been doing something right all this while – and the new Kindle Fire HDX looks set to continue in the footsteps of its predecessor.

For starters, the new Kindle Fire HDX from Amazon will arrive in two display sizes – 7” or 8.9”, and not only that, you will find the relevant amount of processing muscle available under the hood, namely a quad-core 2.2GHz processor that has triple the processing power of its predecessor, double the amount of memory, up to 11 hours of battery life for mixed use, as well as dual stereo speakers with Dolby Digital Plus audio that will certainly keep your ears more than happy.

As mentioned earlier, there will be two models available – the 7” Kindle Fire HDX will start from $229 and you can already place a pre-order for it, with shipping set to commence this coming October 18th. There is also a 4G version in the pipeline, and that particular model will obviously cost you more at $329 a pop.

As for the larger sized model, the 8.9” Kindle Fire HDX will surely be a sight for sore eyes thanks to its more generous display size, where it will retail for $379 for the vanilla version, with shipping set to happen this November 7th, which is more than a month away. Not only that, Amazon will also roll out a 4G version albeit at $479 a pop, and shipping for that model will cost happen later this December 10th. All in all, still in time for Christmas!

Triple Barrel Shotgun: Because More is Always Better, Right?

Shotguns are great for dealing out the maximum damage over a large area. Double barrels, sawed off, it’s all good. But it doesn’t get any better than this triple barrel shotgun. Especially when you’re talking about the zombie apocalypse. You want something that takes their entire torso off.
    triple barrel shotgunmagnify

The Chiappa Triple Threat has three times the stopping power of a traditional shotgun. Zombies won’t stand a chance against this thing. Neither will aliens, mutants, or vampires.

That third barrel doesn’t come cheap though. This thing will cost you $1629(USD). Totally worth it. This thing would probably put a hole right through an elephant. I wonder how many barrels it would take for the shooter get knocked on his butt from the kickback.

Glove Bucket Lets You Avoid Stuff You Don't Want To Touch

And while it doesn’t guarantee you won’t catch a whiff of a fume here or there, the Glove Bucket does provide a simple and safe way to keep harsh cleaning agents off your skin.

Verizon’s new 4G LTE router has a landline jack, offers a peek at the future of online

Verizon's new 4G LTE router has a landline jack, offers a peek at the future of online

Verizon has a new 4G LTE home internet router that includes voice, and it’s meant to replace your home phone line and cable internet subscriptions in one fell swoop. The “Verizon 4G LTE Broadband Router with Voice” (rolls right off the tongue!) packs in WiFi connectivity as well as three Ethernet ports and a phone line jack for your landline. Up to 10 devices can connect to it wirelessly, though we wouldn’t suggest as much given the LTE connectivity.

Should you choose to pick one up ($50 w/ two-year plan or $200 outright), there are a few options for subscription: data only, voice and data, or just voice. Initially, if you snag that voice-and-data plan, the router itself is actually free — and it’s available starting today. Of course, as CNET points out, Verizon’s “Share Everything” data plans come with limitations (notably, data caps) and that means you’d better be a pretty light internet user (or employing the service for a brief period, like a vacation). Interestingly, Novatel Wireless — the company behind Verizon’s new LTE router hardware — is also offering its own, non-carrier-branded version of the same device, dubbed, “MiFi Home.” The price and release date for MiFi Home isn’t clear, but we’ve reached out for more info.
