Xbox One Kinect Can Discern Two People Talking At The Same Time

Xbox One Kinect Can Discern Two People Talking At The Same Time

At the Eurogamer Expo in London, Microsoft’s Phil Harrison revealed that the technology behind Xbox One Kinect makes it able to discern two people who are both talking at the same time. It will be able to hear as well as understand both of them and will also be able to see, in a dark room, if their mouths are moving, said Nick Burton who is the lead developer for new technology.

Kinect is also able to detect 25 joints present between six different people, it will measure heart rates as well as map faces to 1,400 points. The sensor even has the ability to recognize who is using the console’s controller. There can be many applications for multiple voice processing, particularly related to TV and entertainment, which are two major selling points of the Xbox One apart from its ability to run games. It will be interesting to see what solutions and services Microsoft offers in the future which make use of the multiple voice processing capability of the Kinect sensor. Microsoft is going to release the Xbox One console in 13 markets, including the U.S., UK, Canada, France and Germany on November 22nd. The console is priced at $499. Pre-order stock has already been sold out at most retailers.

Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus review

Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus review

When Samsung first released the Series 9 in 2011, it quickly became one of our favorite laptops of the year. Then, once Intel threw its marketing weight behind Ultrabooks, it became our favorite Ultra. But the Series 9 was born in the Windows 7 era, and it became harder and harder to recommend as touchscreens became the standard. Now, though, we have the ATIV Book 9 Plus, the first truly flagship-level Ultrabook Samsung has released since Windows 8 came out.

As you’d expect, it trades in the Series 9’s matte, anti-glare display for a touchscreen. What’s more, though, Samsung also cranked up the resolution, retiring that old 1,600 x 900 panel in favor of a 3,200 x 1,800 one. And, of course, it steps up to a newer Haswell processor, which promises not just faster performance, but also longer battery life (not that endurance was a problem on the original). So is it still our favorite Ultrabook? Pretty much.%Gallery-slideshow99388%

Google Web Designer launches in beta, available now as a free download

Google Web Designer launches in beta, available now as a free download

Back in June, Google’s advertising arm put up a blog post, letting us know it was about to release an HTML5 development tool, called Google Web Designer. Well, it’s just arrived today, per a post on Google’s own G+ account, and it’s available in beta as a free download. Throughout, the tool appears to cater to both seasoned coders, as well as amateurs looking to try their hand at web design (or looking to get it done on a budget). For instance, while you could tweak the code by hand, there’s also an option to let Google focus on the HTML5 and CSS3 grunt work while you focus on… the easier stuff (whatever that is).

Likewise, you can animate individual elements using layers or, if you don’t know what you’re doing, you can just animate scene by scene and let Google fill in the blanks. Additionally, you’ll find a suite of 3D rendering tools inside, along with illustration features. As for monetizing your site, Google Web Designer naturally integrates with Google’s own AdMob and DoubleClick Studio — no surprise there. At any rate, if you feel like getting your hands dirty with code, you’ll want to hit up that second source link below.

Apple Dethrones Coca Cola To Become Best Global Brand

Apple Dethrones Coca Cola To Become Best Global Brand

Apple adds yet another feather to its cap. It has already achieved the milestone of becoming the most valuable company in the world and now it has dethroned Coca Cola to become the best global brand. The soft drink company has held its top spot on the Interbrand list of the 100 valuable global brands for the last 13 consecutive years. It has now lost out to Apple, and has actually gone down to third on the list as Google is right up there behind Apple in second place.

In fact, Interbrand’s 2013 list of top 100 valuable global brands see domination of the top ten spots by technology companies. IBM, Microsoft, Samsung and Intel are on fourth, fifth, eighth and ninth place respectively. Interbrand pegs Apple’s brand value at $98.3 billion, while taking its record sales of both Macs and iOS devices in consideration, apart from appreciating the “seamless omni channel experience for customers” that Apple has created. Interbrand looks at the financial performance of branded products or the service, the role it plays in influencing customer choice and its ability to seek a premium price for a product which in turn brings earnings for the company, when it puts together the list of top 100 valuable global brands.

Delta Confirms It Will Give Surface 2 Tablets To 11,000 Pilots

Delta Confirms It Will Give Surface 2 Tablets To 11,000 Pilots

A few days back we picked up on a report which claimed that Delta pilots will be equipped with Microsoft’s new Surface 2 tablets. It should be noted that back in 2011 the airline ran an Electronic Flight Bag program under which its pilots were provided with iPads to use instead of the traditional paper based flight bags. The report claimed that Delta would instead opt for the Surface 2, despite the fact that iPads are already being widely used both in the cabin and in the cockpits as well by various airlines. Delta has confirmed today that it is going to equip 11,000 of its pilots with Microsoft’s latest tablet.

It was said that Delta initially wanted to go with Nokia’s much rumored tablet, but they opted for the Surface 2. It is not known exactly why Delta made this decision, but then again, it isn’t known for sure if the airline ever considered Nokia’s yet to be unveiled tablet in the first place. Surface 2 tablets will be rolled out to pilots flying the Boeing 757 and the Boeing 767 fleets later this year, while all Delta cockpits will switch to the tablet by the end of next year. Delta projects that using tablets instead of heavy paper bags would save the airline $13 million in fuel and other associated costs.
