Marco Rubio Ditches Ted Cruz Speech For Fundraiser

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) left Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-Texas) hours-long Senate speech against Obamacare Tuesday to attend a fundraiser for Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad (R), according to the Democratic super PAC American Bridge 21st Century.

After speaking on the Senate floor, and noting that Cruz “may be here all night,” Rubio abandoned the anti-Obamacare marathon for a fundraising reception at the Capitol Hill Club in Washington.

Rubio was joined by former Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (R) at the fundraiser. Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) cancelled last-minute.

Kindle Fire HDX From Amazon To Be Faster, Weigh Less Than Previous Generation

SEATTLE — SEATTLE (AP) — Amazon is refreshing its line-up of tablet computers with devices called Kindle Fire HDX. The tablets are significantly faster and weigh less than the previous generation.

The 7-inch (17.8-centimeter) and 8.9-inch (22.6-centimeter) versions use displays that have more pixels per inch than Apple’s latest iPad. They also come with a feature called “Mayday” that calls up a live customer service representative in a tiny video window to explain new features or troubleshoot problems. The helper can guide users with on-screen hand scribbles and even take control of the device from afar.

LG G2 Design Story

They say that a picture speaks a thousand words, but there is basically no better way to convey a story within the shortest period of time possible by showing it off in a video, and the folks over at LG have revealed this particular video that shows you how the LG G2 was designed. It seems as though the engineers over at LG do take everyday situations into consideration, before consolidating their data and experience in order to churn out something new and revolutionary.

Where QSlide was concerned, it happened to be a light mist on the side window of the engineer’s car which actually became the catalyst for him to create such a multitasking application. Pretty neat, no? It reminds me of how Charles Goodyear managed to find the secret to vulcanized rubber, and in a similar way, many other pioneers of yore too, had a slice of luck, chance, and of course, seized it with both hands. The LG G2 is definitely a smartphone which is beautiful in its own right, so it is not surprising to see that LG has already set a sales target of a whopping 10 million units. Will you be one of those who will help LG arrive at such a goal?

Scheduled to air on Nov. 14, the episode will reportedly see Lucy crossing paths with Penny (Kaley Cuoco), although it’s not yet clear whether she’ll also encounter Raj, who finally overcame his selective mutism in the Season 6 finale after getting his heart broken by her character.

    MediaTek MT6592 Octa-Core Chip Spotted

MediaTek MT6592 Octa Core Chip SpottedSamsung has been one company that has unveiled their mobile octa-core CPU in the past, but it has been argued that the Exynos chip is more or less a couple of quad-core CPUs that have been stacked together, so it is not a true blue octa-core solution that purists demand. Right now, not all of the eight cores are able to be active simultaneously, and four of those happen to be high-performing ones which sip plenty of juice, while the remaining four are lower-performing ones. MediaTek, however, is up to the task to produce a pure octa-core mobile processor. This particular Taiwanese chip designer has announced in the past that this solution will be known as the MT6592, where it can clocked at up to 2GHz and sport quad-core Mali graphics to boot.

Check out an alleged leaked live image of the MediaTek MT6592, where it is seen alongside a smartphone motherboard. The “V” in the name of the MediaTek MT6592 processor could very well be “Developer Edition” or something of the equivalent. Other than that, there aren’t really too many details about the MediaTek MT6952, but if it should make it to the market in due time, we are definitely in for a treat.

Amazon Introduces Mayday, A Unique And Amazingly Useful Live Tech Support System For Kindle

Screen Shot 2013-09-25 at 5.03.03 PM

Live support has always been a dream for major retailers. While chat solutions already exist, today Amazon announced a new support service available on Kindle HD products called Mayday. It is a single-click, hardware-support solution that lets users work with a remote tech support representative to solve problems with their tablets.

The service allows you to see the remote tech support person in a small window on your screen and also displays your screen on the support person’s computer where they can watch what you’re doing online, annotate the screen, and even tap through the interface. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said it’s like “actually very similar to having someone standing next to you” and offering tech support.

The service is unique to Amazon, and the company built a full infrastructure to support it at their HQ in Seattle and on board the hardware. By compressing the video signals, they are able to send more data to the devices from tech support and allow tech support to see the data remotely. Amazon’s goal is a 15-second response time, and they will ramp up staffing around major holidays when Kindles are flying fast and furious under the Easter tree.

While some may be concerned about privacy, rest assured the support person will not be able to see out of your camera, and you can mute your audio at any time. Bezos equated the experience to going into a store for tech support. “If you went to some physical store location to ask for help for your device, they’re going to see everything,” said Bezos. More important, however, is how many people the service will help.

“Are we in charge of our devices or our devices in charge of us? Getting good tech support isn’t easy, but it’s important,” he said.

The service will be available on the new Kindle Fire HDX tablets. You can read more about the service at Amazon’s Mayday page.
