Though they’ve made clear that the decision to sell solar panels to the masses on a market-by-market basis, the results are already clear: IKEA is aiming to make solar energy mainstream. If there’s one company that can take this green push to the market in a way that’s not-quite-cheap but certainly not overpriced, it’s IKEA. […]
Just when we thought Chinese tech news has died down ahead of China’s National Day on October 1st, a seemingly reliable HTC leak from there just had to ruin the fun. According to Weiphone, these are apparently the screens of the Butterfly 2, a new flagship device that’s been rumored to carry a larger 5.2-inch 1080p display, a quad-core Snapdragon 800 SoC, an UltraPixel camera and BoomSound front-facing stereo speakers. Like the Windows Phone-powered 8XT, this alleged Butterfly 2 disguises its bottom speaker as a short black bar in between the Android soft keys, and it also utilizes a similar two-tone color scheme — for its front side, at least. ePrice reported earlier that the new phone could be waterproof-certified at IPX7 or above, but we won’t find out until January 2014 the earliest. One more shot after the break.

MSI GP Series of notebooks unveiled
Posted in: Today's ChiliOnce in a while , there is a new range of notebooks that intend to straddle the lines between mobile productivity as well as gaming. The thing is, battery technology has not advanced to such a state where it is possible to gain a whole lot of gaming time while having the highest performance possible. Well, MSI has made an attempt at doing so with the new GP series of notebooks that are touted to deliver exceptional on-the-go performance, as it carries the Intel Core i5 processor, an NVIDIA graphics chipset as well as a SteelSeries gaming keyboard, with prices starting from $899.99 onward.
The GP Series is made up of a single 17-inch and a couple of 16-inch models, where they will arrive equipped with either an Intel Core i7 or Core i5 processors, an NVIDIA GeForce GT740M graphics chipset as well as 8GB DDR3 RAM. Such hardware specifications ought to offer more than adequate juice to work around any tasks. Not only that, it will also merge Sound Blaster Cinema, Matrix Display and Audio Boost technology using gold-flashed audio jacks in order to deliver crystal clear surround sound, with the additional ability to hook up to another two more monitors, while maximizing audio quality for a more immersive experience.
Not only that, there is also the SteelSeries keyboard that will make an appearance here, up to a 1TB hard drive, Giga LAN network and multiple USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 connectivity. Do you think that such hardware specifications would be able to satisfy the hardcore gamer who is always on the move, and yet want to get a spot of gaming in once in a while? I guess that really depends on the situation, and hopefully the gaming performance that the MSI GP Series delivers will be good enough for the more demanding ones out there.

Back in the spring, the Nexus 5 was rumored to be a super-phone code-named "Megalodon." Current leaks are similar to the early chatter, but with a stripped-down camera and less RAM.

The flow rate of Nexus 5 leaks is rapidly accelerating as we near an inevitable reveal. The latest come in the form of a log file that confirms much of what we’ve already heard in terms of specs, but brings a few new surprises.
The log appears to confirm previous suspicions that the new pure Google phone will come with the necessary guts for wireless charging, as previously revealed in FCC filings.
Also found in the log, which MyCE obtained and combed through for us, is a reference to Miracast. This Android mirroring technology allows you to wirelessly “throw” your Android screen to a TV.

Thanks to e-mail, phone calls, SMS, and the cat industrial complex on YouTube, there are are countless ways to ruin your focus when you’re trying to work.
According to research from the University of California at Irvine, it takes 23 minutes to get back on track following an interruption. Meanwhile, distractions may also dull your cognitive performance.
So what we all need are giant desktop buttons that turn the world off so we can concentrate for a change.
At least, that’s what the developers of MyFocus believe. It’s a button measuring 3.5 inches across that can block incoming messages on your computer and mobile devices.
The subject of an ambitious Kickstarter campaign for about $125,000, MyFocus also works in the real world: its LED glows red or green to show those around you when you’re busy or available.

…Because when you think of Britain, you think of sunny skies. Ikea has started selling solar panels for residential rooftops at its stores in the United Kingdom. The furniture outfit’s move into home solar systems (as opposed to sun-powered lighting) was apparently made attractive due to the drop in cost of solar panels, and Ikea’s initial offering will set you back £5,700 (about $9,300). For your money, you get a 3.36 kW system, in-store consultation, installation, maintenance and energy monitoring service. Ikea’s got plans to sell solar panels in other locales, but according to Ikea Chief Sustainability Officer Steve Howard, such expansion will be done market by market (so don’t expect a worldwide rollout). Hey Steve, might we suggest your next store to start selling solar be someplace with more than two weeks of sunshine per year?
