HTC One To Receive Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Update This Week

HTC One To Receive Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Update This WeekWord that hails right from the mouth of an official source is what most of us would like to hear when it comes to the unveiling or release of a particular device or update. Case in point, Jason Mackenzie, President of HTC America, tweeted that the HTC One will finally be on the receiving end of the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update before September comes to a close. Not only that, those who happen to have the HTC One Developer Edition sitting pretty in their pockets will also be receiving the last of the Jelly Bean builds from this week onward. We do wonder whether the rumored HTC One with an octa-core processor will arrive with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in tow assuming that rumor turns out to be true.

As for those of you out there who happen to own the HTC Droid DNA, the outlook is not all that optimistic, since the HTC Droid DNA will only be on the receiving end of Sense 5.0 alongside an update to Android 4.2.2, which means there is no Android 4.3 Jelly Bean in sight. Ah well, at least Sense 5 will offer BlinkFeed to keep the other features on the smartphone company. Something is better than nothing, right?

Microsoft Has Three Surface Generations In Mind Already

Microsoft Has Three Surface Generations In Mind AlreadyAt this morning’s Microsoft Surface event, we managed to snag some hands-on time with the Microsoft Surface Pro 2. Not only that, later in the day, we reported whispers of Microsoft working on a release of a Surface 2 with LTE capability that should see action in select markets sometime next year. Well, here we are with word from a Microsoft employee, Panos Panay, who claimed that his personal Surface tablet has something which Surface fanboys would drool over – plans for three generations of Surface. Unfortunately, this is one ‘secret’ that is closely guarded so much so that there was not a single screenshot of the upcoming roadmap available. Who knows, the Surface Pro 3 (assuming that is even its name) will feature Intel’s Broadwell processor within?

Other than that, Julie Larson-Green, head of Microsoft’s hardware division, did share that Microsoft is mulling over whether to allow third party accessory makers to develop their own keyboard covers for the Surface family. That sounds promising to us, what do you think?

If all of the Surface Pro 2 and Surface 2 news has not made you sick to the stomach just yet, perhaps you might want to check out promo videos of these two freshly announced tablets, and who knows, you might end up Microsoft Surface overload at the end of the day.

Star Wars Episode VI: The Return Of The Jedi Pinball Table

Is there no end to milking the Star Wars franchise? I guess the correct answer would be “No”, and fans of the space opera would not take any other reply anyways. Here we are with something for pinball fans – not the physical table, but the digital one that offers a whole lot more possibilities without the risk of a mechanical breakdown – in the form of the Star Wars Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi pinball table.

This particular pinball table will be centered around the events of the beloved film, where it will b set in the forest of the Endor moon, and you as the pinball player will join forces with the Rebel Alliance, keeping Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Lando Calrissian, R2-D2, and C-3PO company in a concerted effort to bring about the downfall of the Sith while restoring peace in the galaxy – without a father-son combo, of course. Check out the trailer above to figure out whether the game is worth your time or not, but with a slew of interactive 3D objects that were inspired by the film such as an AT-ST, Speeder bike, Death Star II hologram, TIE fighters, Tydirium shuttle and a Shield generator, chances are you cannot resist.

Samsung ISOCELL smartphone camera sensors promise better colors in low-light

Samsung introduces its new ISOCELL smartphone imaging sensor, will hit production in Q4 2013

Samsung’s offering up spoilers at what we can expect from future Galaxy smartphones — already. They will likely feature ISOCELL, the company’s new CMOS imaging sensor. It adds “advanced pixel technology” that polices the absorption of electrons for improved color fidelity, even when lighting isn’t ideal. The new sensor will head to new “premium” smartphones and tablets, with mass production scheduled to start in Q4 2013. Samsung’s ISOCELL tech improves on current BSI (back-side illuminated) sensors by adding a “physical barrier between neighboring pixel”. The science behind it means that more photons can be collected and that’s what will improve image quality. This between-pixel crosstalk is apparently reduced by 30 percent, and increases the dynamic range of photos by up to 30 percent — as you’ll note from the washed-out petal tips in the sample above.

Samsung explains that “market pressure” has meant it had to increase camera resolution and image quality, without increasing the size of the camera unit. This meant that pixels had to shrink, “while improving their performance at the same time”. Interestingly, this sensor is specifically for 8-megapixel units, which could mean a drop down from the 13-megapixel camera seen in the Galaxy S 4. A full camera unit housing ISOCELL would also take up less space inside devices compared to previous imaging sensors, with a reduced height that sounds like it could be ideal for the company’s future high-powered, even thinner smartphones.

BlackBerry Kopi Spotted In The Wild

BlackBerry Kopi Spotted In The WildWe all know that out of so many countries in the world, BlackBerry is huge in Indonesia for some strange reason. In fact, BlackBerry is not a company that many people are willing to back up to make a comeback at this point in time with disappointing quarterly reports as well as whispers of its co-founder wanting to take it private. Heck, even the latest BlackBerry Z30 flagship device which was announced recently could not increase the enthusiasm for the brand by much, and we have seen yet another entry level BlackBerry C Series device being mentioned not too long ago. It seems that there is yet another unannounced, low-cost BlackBerry 10 smartphone that is in the works, where it has been given the codename Kopi. The BlackBerry Kopi will be a throwback to the old while toeing the line with the new – it features a combination of a touchscreen display and a hardware QWERTY keyboard.

It is rumored that the BlackBerry Kopi will not be as powerful as the budget-friendly Q5, which makes it even more entry level, although there are whispers of a faster chipset and a removable battery. Forget about LTE networks on the BlackBerry Kopi, and considering how ‘Kopi’ means ‘coffee’ in the Malay and Indonesian languages, it might just be headed for emerging markets.
