Apple TV 6.0 update returns, likely with bug fixes in tow

Apple TV 60 update returns with fixes in tow

Apple may have been too hasty in rolling out its Apple TV 6.0 update last week, but it’s been quick to make amends. The company has just re-released the upgrade with a new build number — and, presumably, fixes for the connectivity and reset issues from the initial rollout. Otherwise, the new firmware offers the same AirPlay from iCloud support, iTunes Music Store shopping and iTunes Radio streaming that we saw a few days ago. We haven’t heard of any hiccups with this latest revision, but let us know if you encounter anything serious.

Microsoft: Don’t Expect Indie Games For Xbox One Until 2014

Microsoft: Dont Expect Indie Games For Xbox One Until 2014One of the great things about indie games is that people, for the most part, do not have much expectations going in which leads to pretty pleasant surprises, or nasty shocks. In any case if you’re a fan of indie games and you’re looking forward to the next big thing on the Xbox One, it looks like you will have to wait at least until 2014 before you see any indie titles published for the console. This is according to Microsoft’s corporate vice president, Phil Harrison, who spoke to the folks at Games Industry International.

According to Harrison, Microsoft has received hundreds of applications but at the same time is realistic that they will not see any of the titles launch alongside the console in November. “I don’t think it’s realistic to see a developer get the program and build a game and get it into the market on November 22 […] It’s reasonable to expect in early 2014 we’ll start seeing the first games come through.” So there you have it, if you’re looking to play some non-mainstream titles on your brand new Xbox One, you’ll be in for a wait, but who knows, perhaps the wait could be worth it.

    GTA 5 Could Get Microtransactions

GTA 5 Could Get MicrotransactionsIt was just last week that Rockstar finally released Grand Theft Auto 5 to the masses on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, which went on to earn $800 million in the first day, $1 billion in three days, and secured itself the number one spot on the UK charts. Now if you were looking for more features that could be introduced to the game, you might be in luck because thanks to a Redditor, he has found data which points towards the possibility that Rockstar might introduce microtransactions within the game at a future date.

For those unfamiliar, microtransactions are basically items/perks that gamers can purchase within a game using real money. For apps this would be known as in-app purchases. Some games, such as Team Fortress 2, have microtransactions where players can buy different hats for cosmetic purposes. Other games use microtransactions to allow players to advance quicker within the game, and also create a new form of revenue. There’s no telling if and when Rockstar will introduce it to the game, and for all we know it could have merely been an idea at one point in time that did not make the final cut, but what do you guys think? Would you like to see microtransactions make its way into GTA 5?

Surface 2 With LTE SKU Coming In 2014

Surface 2 With LTE SKU Coming In 2014Earlier today Microsoft unveiled two new Surface tablets, the Surface 2 which will be powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 4 chipset, and the Surface Pro 2 which would be powered by an Intel processor. Prior to the unveiling, there were rumors about some of the specifications and features of the new tablets, one of them being LTE connectivity which is handy in places where there might not be WiFi, but unfortunately Microsoft did not mention anything during the event. However during a Reddit AMA, Microsoft’s Panos Panay answered a question regarding LTE connectivity and confirmed that LTE connectivity would be arriving in the form of an SKU early next year.

“Great question. We didn’t talk about it today, but Surface 2 will be launching an awesome LTE SKU early next year! Nice catch on your part, no one else has asked this question…… what better way to tell people than through Reddit!! Panos” However he did not mention as to whether LTE connectivity would be available on both the Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2, or if it would be limited to just the Surface Pro 2, the higher-end model of the two, but either way we guess something is better than nothing, right?

CyberNotes: File Hippo Makes Finding And Downloading Free Software Simple

This article was written on August 04, 2006 by CyberNet.

    Free For All Friday

File Hippo is a website I just came across that makes finding and downloading free software simple and effortless! It is organized into categories like browsers and plugins, anti-spyware, audio and video, and the list goes on an on. Essentially, if you’re looking for any type of software, File Hippo will most certainly have a category for it filled with different options. Best of all, the software is free. After stumbling across this, I think it will become my ‘go to’ site for freeware. Here’s why: One of the first features I noticed was their RSS feeds. RSS feeds have become an essential part of my day to make sorting through information that’s important to me a little bit easier. File Hippo provides feeds for updates, categories, and individual programs. Convenience is something I like, and this is sure a convenience.

    File Hippo

Another feature that was attractive is the fact that they keep old versions of programs! Sometimes when I get a new version of a program only to find that the bugs haven’t been worked out, I want to go back to a previous version. At times, this can be hard to come by. No more wasted time trying to track down old versions of a program that aren’t available anymore. Organization of a site and simply the looks of it are always important to me. While File Hippo has a simple user interface, it’s organized well and easy to find what you’re looking for. At the top of the website, they have a ‘latest updates’ as well as a ‘most popular downloads’ section. They claim to focus only on the best software so while quantity isn’t in large abundance, quality is. They also have a filtering feature that will show you only Freeware and/or Non-beta software. Finally, one of the greatest reasons I’ve been intrigued with File Hippo is because downloading is super simple, and there are no popups or spyware. Downloading software these days without popups or spyware is almost unheard of. This is a breath of fresh air when you’re able to download without getting attacked by popups. Here are my top picks in no particular order: Anti-Virus: AVG Free Edition 7.1.394 Audio and Video: Winamp 5.2.5 CD and DVD Tools: DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0 Messaging and Chat: Google Talk Imaging: Picasa 2.5 Firewalls and Security: Sygate Personal Firewall File Hippo is a great resource in helping you to find quality freeware that you’re interested in and it’s simple and easy to use. Check it out!
