So how does this whole world wide web thing work? Cables, man. Websites, h tee tee pees and computers. And it’s all a pretty new thing, right? Well not quite, the history of the web is a lot longer than you’d expect. John Allsopp of Web Directions created a timeline showing the "key dates, browsers, technologies and ideas in the history of the World Wide Web" that dates back to 1910 and goes right up until today. Even if you consider yourself a professional Internet surfer, you’ll probably learn a thing or two cruising through the timeline here. [Web Directions via The Presurfer]

With Microsoft about to acquire Nokia, we’re sure there are some customers who might not be too happy about it. After all there have been talks about how the Nokia brand (at least as far as cellphones are concerned) would be removed and everything would be Microsoft-branded. Given Nokia’s long history in the mobile phone industry, undoubtedly many would be sad to see the brand go. However it looks like the impact of the acquisition is not as big as some would have thought, and when several huge retailers in India were interviewed about potential backlash from customers, it seems that there wasn’t much.
According to The Times of India who spoke to retailers such as The Mobile Store and UniverCell Telecom, both of whom account for more than half of total smartphone sales, it seems that the sales of Nokia devices continued as per normal and did not see much dip, which they attributed to customers being unbothered by the acquisition. Of course we expect there are those who are saddened by this news, but in the grand scheme of things it looks like it’s business as usual. What do you guys say? Has Microsoft’s decision affected your future purchases?
Customers In India Not Fazed By Microsoft-Nokia Deal original content from Ubergizmo.
It has been a while since we heard anything about the legal tussle that both Nokia and HTC are embroiled in. Well it looks like in a preliminary ITC ruling, it seems that the courts might have favored Nokia and agreed with Nokia’s claims that HTC had infringed upon some of their patents, a ruling which could lead to a import ban of HTC devices into the US. According to the preliminary order, “The Administrative Law Judge hereby determines that a violation of Section 337 of the Tariff Act of 1930, as amended, has been found in the importation into the United States, the sale for importation, or the sale within the United States after importation of certain electronic devices, including mobile phones and tablet computers, and components thereof, in connection with the claims of U.S. Patent Nos. 7,415,247 and 6,393,260.”
It is more than likely that HTC will petition this ruling to get it reviewed and possibly overturned, but worst comes to worst, we expect that HTC will eventually end up making a deal with Nokia where they will pay them a licensing fee for whatever patents they might have infringed upon. It was only earlier this year that Nokia beat HTC in the Netherlands which saw a similar preliminary injunction as well.

You can buy a lot of things with $10,100 — unless we’re talking hard-to-find iPhones on eBay.
That’s how much one eBay buyer paid for a 16GB unlocked iPhone 5S in gold, a device that’s currently back-ordered into next month.
The US-based seller “Papakar” put the device up for sale Sunday afternoon. It proceeded to get 51 bids on its way to end at $10,100 just before 1 p.m. PT earlier today.

To put that price in perspective, an iPhone 5 (last year’s model), made out of actual 24K gold will run you about $4,646 from this UK-based company. The iPhone 5S itself only retails for $649 in the US (plus tax).
The gold color is new for the iPhone this year, as is “Space Gray” which replaced last year’s black color. Apple appears to have made less of the gold color than any other type, as it was … [Read more]

Move over, Grumpy Cat. A new hip cat’s poised to take over the Internet. Meet Sir Stuffington, a tremendously cute rescue kitten with more Facebook “Likes” than the average local business.
With more than 28,000 “Likes” and counting, the 6-week-old Sir Stuffington recently went viral due to a cheeky picture of the one-eyed feline wearing pirate garb complete with red bandana, eye patch, and an unforgettable sneer.
Aside from lacking an eye, the flea and filth-ridden Sir Stuffington arrived at the Multnomah County Animal Services in Troutdale, Ore., this month with health issues including a disfigured jaw, heart murmur, upper respiratory infection, flea anemia, and the highly contagious calicivirus.
After cleaning up Sir Stuffington and treating his respiratory infection, the Troutdale shelter turned over the lucky kitten and its two siblings to 34-year-old foster parent Blazer Scaffer for recuperation. To ensure a smooth transition, the shelter also took care of Sir Stuffington’s severe flea infestation, did a round of dewormin… [Read more]
