MeMOFone HD5 And PadFone Mini Confirmed By ASUS

Recently rumors were going around that ASUS is gearing up to launch a new smartphone and a tablet. The company itself has confirmed its plans about the MeMOFone HD5 and the PadFone Mini. The MeMOFone HD5 is going to be a smartphone with a 5 inch display and is going to launch early next year. ASUS CEO Jerry Shen has made these confirmations himself.

The ASUS PadFone devices are actually smartphone and tablet hybrids, the PadFone Mini is going to be just another variant in this lineup. This particular device is said to launch around the holiday season later this year, it is said to have a 4 inch smartphone and a 7 inch tablet. Shen didn’t reveal any specific details about both of these devices, such as their specifications or pricing information. Presumably, the MeMOFone HD5 will have a high-definition display, given the name of this smartphone. Only recently ASUS revealed the PadFone Infinity, yet another smartphone and tablet hybrid that has a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM, 13 megapixel rear camera and a lot more. The tablet part of this device is actually a 10.1 inch 1,920×1,200 IPS display which can’t be used as a standalone product since the smartphone houses the necessary hardware.

Does Anyone Else Still Use a Mouse?

Does Anyone Else Still Use a Mouse?

With tablets and trackpad-based laptops slowly taking over the world, using an actually old-fashioned mouse seems to be becoming a niche passion for an increasingly small but devoted few. Maybe the mouse should just die already, but I can’t be only one who just can’t give it up.

Windows Phone 8.1 Will First Bring ‘Cortana’ Digital Assistant To The U.S. [Rumor]

Windows Phone 8.1 Will First Bring Cortana Digital Assistant To The U.S. [Rumor]

Microsoft is said to be working on its own digital voice assistant to rival Apple’s Siri. Internally, the assistant is said to be referred to as “Cortana,” which is actually a character from the Halo franchise. Rumor has it that Cortana is actually going to be an overhaul of Microsoft’s TellMe service, while offering the same voice interaction features that Siri does. There’s also chatter about Microsoft integrating the assistant into all of its major products, such as the Xbox and Windows OS devices. The assistant is expected to be released as an integral part of Windows Phone 8.1 update, which is due early next year.

Microsoft is currently testing the assistant internally on Windows Phone devices that are running the GDR3 update, which is expected to be released in the near future. It is said that GDR3 update won’t bring Cortana to Windows Phone 8 powered devices. Moreover, it is said that Cortana will initially only be available to users in the U.S. once Windows Phone 8.1 rolls out next year. Users outside the U.S. would reportedly have to wait until late 2014 to get the virtual assistant. While Cortana might only be the codename at this point in time, a petition urging Microsoft to opt it as the final branding for the assistant is already gaining steam.

Now that polished versions of Firefox 24 are out the door, Mozilla has released the beta version of Firefox 25 — and it’s quite a hefty upgrade for Android users. The new mobile build adds guest browsing, which lets friends borrow your device without seeing your bookmarks and history. As soon as a guest signs out, your data comes back. Beta testers also get a mixed content blocker, support for add-ons with page actions and an option to set pictures as contact photos or wallpapers. If you like the idea of sharing Android gadgets with others, you can grab Firefox 25 through Google Play.

Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 Screenshot Leaked

At its Unpacked event earlier this month Samsung announced that Android 4.3 update for Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S3 will be released next month. A concrete release date for the official update has not been provided. A screenshot of Android 4.3 build XXUBMA8 running on Galaxy S4 has surfaced online, the device in question is the octa-core i9500 model. Android 4.3 isn’t a major update by any measure, though it is expected to bring a couple of new features from the Galaxy Note 3, apart from the performance and stability improvements, always-on Wi-Fi scanning for location reporting, OpenGL 3.0 and more.

Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 update will finally bring support for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch to the smartphone. Right now, only the Galaxy Note 3 is compatible with Samsung’s new smartwatch. Google announced the Android 4.3 update last month, as previously mentioned, its not exactly a major update. Many had expected that the company will say something about the next Android version, which many believed to be Key Lime Pie. Earlier this month, Google announced out of the blue that the next Android version, Android 4.4, is going to be called KitKat, which is a result of a partnership between Mountain View and Switzerland’s Nestle, the company that makes KitKat chocolates. Pakistan Releases Top Taliban Prisoner, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, In Hopes Of Afghan Peace Talks

ISLAMABAD — Pakistan freed the Afghan Taliban’s former deputy leader on Saturday after years of detention in a move that many officials in Islamabad and Kabul hope will aid Afghanistan’s struggling peace process.

But others doubt Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar will do much good, and the United States, which opposed his release, is worried he could return to the battlefield. That could give the Taliban in Afghanistan a boost at a time when the U.S. is drawing down its troops and increasingly relying on Afghan forces to fight insurgents.

Homeless People In L.A. Hired To Buy New iPhones

Homeless People In L.A. Hired To Buy New iPhones

Its not unusual to see scalpers waiting in line whenever Apple launches a new iPhone, their motive is to get as many units as they can which are then sold at inflated prices once the initial stock runs out. A businessman in L.A. took scalping to a whole new level, when he picked up about 100 homeless people from Skid Row in Los Angeles. He promised to pay them if they waited overnight in the line outside Apple’s retail store in Pasadena, California. Since Apple allows customers to purchase no more than two units, he would have had 200 iPhones, all while paying each hired hand $40 for the trouble. His plan went awry.

The man, who hasn’t been identified in local media reports, shot himself in the foot, figuratively. He bragged about his elaborate scheme to other people waiting in line, soon word reached the employees of said Apple Store, who stopped selling iPhones to the hired hands. Seeing that they weren’t able to score iPhones anymore, the man announced that he wouldn’t pay those who didn’t buy iPhones. Upon hearing this, the homeless people who were denied their due surrounded the man and before a scuffle could break out, police escorted the businessman away for his own protection. He isn’t in trouble with the law, by the way, Pasadena police say they’re not investigating since this was “a business issue.” [Image via SGVTribune]

Eminem Unveils ‘Marshall Mathers LP 2’ Cover Art Depicting Childhood Home In Detroit

Eminem took to Twitter on Friday evening to unveil the cover art for “The Marshall Mathers LP 2.” The imagery for the rapper’s eighth solo album, due Nov. 5, bears an appropriate resemblance to his first “Marshall Mathers LP,” from 2000. The same sepia tones are used in a depiction of Eminem’s Detroit childhood home, except this time he’s not seen in the photo.
