Gecko Bluetooth tags act as motion and location triggers for your mobile (video)
Posted in: Today's ChiliWhat you see above isn’t a fancy pick — it’s a gesture control peripheral called Gecko designed to do a lot more than strum a guitar. According to its creators, each action the coin-sized gadget makes can correspond to a phone function, so long as the two are connected via Bluetooth. You could, for instance, configure your device loaded with the accompanying iOS or Android app to make an emergency call whenever you shake Gecko once. However, they claim that it also has many potential offbeat uses, such as notifying you when someone moves your bag or helping you find lost pets, kids or, worse, keys. Of course, that’ll only work if you tag your items with it, but anyone with a hyperactive five-year-old wouldn’t mind improvising a necklace out of it. Don’t expect to find one at a local mall, though — Gecko’s merely an Indiegogo project at the moment, hoping to raise $50,000 to start mass production.

Parents if you’ve always wanted a specific section within the iTunes App Store just for kids so that you won’t have to wade through potentially adult apps before arriving at something kid appropriate, you’re in luck as Apple has finally launched a Kids category within the iTunes App Store. The category was announced back in WWDC 2013 earlier this year, but now parents will be able to access it through the App Store. This section has been designed specifically for children and parents in mind, and will come with certain restrictions that should make it harder for children to accidentally rack up thousands of dollars in in-app purchases.
One of the ways to combat this is to ask for parental permission before children are allowed to engage in commercial activity, such as purchasing in-game items and such. The apps are curated for kids and will be categorized according to what they do, such as “Create & Play”, “Shapes & Colors”, and etc. Developers who create apps for kids also need to adhere to new guidelines which prohibits them from using behavioral advertising, and are required to comply with children privacy statutes in order to collect certain personal information about children, if the app requires it.

White BlackBerry Z30 And Wireless Charing Variant Could Be A Verizon Exclusive
Posted in: Today's ChiliAccording to a tweet by Verizon the other day, we know that the carrier would be getting its hands on the new BlackBerry Z30, but now word on the street has it that the carrier would not only be offering the device, but could also offer up an exclusive white version of the BlackBerry Z30 and a wireless charging variant as well. Back before the Z30 was announced, it had been rumored that the handset could offer up wireless charging capabilities, making it a first for the company, and sure enough that feature was announced alongside the phone as well.
Given that the BlackBerry Z10 made its debut on Verizon with an exclusive white model earlier this year, we guess this rumor does make some sense. In any case we expect the white model to be pretty much the same as the normal BlackBerry Z30 and will keep its internals, with the main difference being a fresh coat of white paint. The Z30 is expected to pack a 5” Super AMOLED display with a quad-core processor under the hood, a 2,880mAh battery, uses BlackBerry Natural Sound that will provide an enhanced audio experience to the user, and of course will be running on the BlackBerry 10 operating system.

The ace team at iFixit has already gutted Apple’s new iPhone 5S
We’re still a couple of months away from the launch of the Xbox One, but if you’ve already cleared out a welcoming cubbyhole in anticipation, then we hope you’ve pictured the next-gen console lying down. Speaking with GameSpot at the Tokyo Game Show, top Xbox bod Albert Panello said the One doesn’t “support vertical orientation,” or: you shouldn’t stand it up. Panello explains the console’s slot-loading drive simply wasn’t designed for operating in that position, and if you’re a rebellious type that laughs at the threat of busted hardware, you’ll be ignoring official advice “at your own risk.”
