Disney Princesses Dressed in the Fashion of Their Times

There seems to be a lot of Disney-themed art these days featuring everyone’s favorite subjects: the princesses. One that’s currently making the rounds is a gallery of them twerking, but I figured I’d skip that to avoid ruining everyone’s childhood.

Instead, we’ve got a gallery by Beatrice Lorén, in which the princesses keep their dignity and show off their sense of style at the same time.

What makes Beatrice’s artwork different is that the characters have been dressed up in what was considered fashionable when their respective movies were released.

I like Cinderella and Aurora’s outfits best, but maybe that’s because they’re sporting such classic looks. Ariel looks particularly hip in her eighties wear, and Mulan’s get-up looks like something she would really wear, if she stayed in character.

Looks like Beatrice (aka bealor on deviantArt) did a great job. What do you think?

Doom Played Using The Piano As Its Controller

Doom Played Using The Piano As Its ControllerWhen was the first time that you played Doom? It was definitely one of those gaming experiences that would have seared itself deeply in your mind, as you were introduced to a world where marines, outnumbered and outgunned by the forces of Hell, still managed to pull off an improbable victory for humanity with the help of a keyboard and mouse. The Cyberdemon then proved to be a nightmare opponent if all you had was a mere keyboard to circle strafe it. Well, fast forward to today, and Doom still gets its fair share of play time among enthusiasts, although some fans do take to tinkering with the game a bit.

Case in point, a bunch of alleged professional tinkerers have managed to transform what was said to be an old piano into a rather awkward keyboard, taking under 24 hours to achieve that. As to how this was done, apparently it relied on some basic PC interfacing as well as a “load of wiring.” In this case, you can now play Doom using the piano, and I do wonder if the foot pedals do play an important role in dispatching the armies of Hell back to where they belong once again.

Valve Steam Box Might Be Announced Next Week

Valve Steam Box Might Be Announced Next Week

There has been a lot of speculation about the Valve Steam Box recently, it is now believed an announcement might be made as early as next week. Gabe Newell, Valve’s co-founder, referred to Linux as “the future of gaming” during his speech at LinuxCon 2013. He further added that the company will reveal more information about “the hardware opportunities we see for bringing Linux into the living room” next week.

Valve has said that it is working on creating its own console, but the Steam Box project really is about creating a model that other manufacturers can follow to build their own Linux based gaming consoles. Newell said during the speech that the next step for them is to “release some work we’ve done on the hardware side.” He also said that Valve has plans to initiate a “grand unification” of gaming that’s currently done on consoles, mobile devices and PCs, according to Newell, 198 Steam games are now running on Linux. It isn’t entirely clear at this point in time if Valve is going to release an actual Linux based console next week or will it first release the model or guidelines based on which other manufacturers can build their own devices.

Nexus 7 LTE Factory Images Available

Nexus 7 LTE Factory Images AvailableIf you happen to be in possession of the Nexus 7 that sports LTE connectivity, we have some good news for you. You are now able to restore your tablet in a safe manner, returning it to the factory firmware through the use of freshly released official images from Google. The images for the Nexus 7 with LTE connectivity have been given the codename “razorg”, and it has already been put up on the Google Developers site.

This would mean those Nexus 7 with LTE owners who did spend a fair amount of time tinkering with their devices and who knows, ruining it, now have a way to return their respective devices to stock Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, build JLS36C, without losing any sleep. Just in case you were wondering as to which particular mobile carrier you should pick up your Nexus 7 from, how about T-Mobile? We did bring you a story earlier on concerning a Nexus 7 with LTE that will be made available via T-Mobile, and not only that, snagging one of those puppies would also net you a full month of free data, now how about that for starters? I suspect that bricked Nexus 7 with LTE devices too, will gain a new lease of life pretty soon.

Facebook And Twitter Hits A Wall Again In Iran

Facebook And Twitter Hits A Wall Again In IranIt was rather recent that we reported a slight easing of Iran’s government, as it seemed that both Facebook and Twitter services were made available in that part of the world, all without having to go through proxy sites and VPNs (Virtual Private Networks). This has led to plenty of new and old media alike to speculate whether this move on the quiet could usher in a new era of a more open Internet policy in Iran, especially after one takes into consideration the election of the new moderate President Hassan Rouhani. After all, Rouhani does have a Twitter account, while Iran’s Foreign Minister Javad Zarif has a Twitter account as well as a Facebook page.

Unfortunately, there was no official statements which were released from Iranian authorities concerning the lifting of restrictions on Facebook and Twitter. However, it must be noted that on Sunday itself, the head of Iran’s Security Forces did mention that Facebook will remain blocked. Perhaps the opportunity of accessing both Twitter and Facebook can be attributed to a technical issue rather than a policy change, as many folks in smaller cities claim that they can no longer access Facebook and Twitter. What do you think is up with Iran?
