In April this year, we managed to check out a demonstration of the Sailfish mobile operating system, spending some hands-on time with it, while a month later, the folks over at Jolla did announce their first Sailfish OS powered smartphone. Just a little bit of context before we continue, Sailfish OS happens to be a Linux-based mobile operating system which is the “spiritual successor” of the abandoned MeeGo project, and to make things more approachable and of course, to stoke the interest of end users, it is now official that the Sailfish OS is full well capable of supporting Android apps. Even better yet, these apps do not need to be modified in order to run on a Sailfish platform.
According to Jolla, Sailfish OS users are free to download Android apps from “various app stores.” It remains to be seen, however, if you are able to take advantage of the Google Play Store, Amazon Appstore, or other existing app stores for Android. Apart from support for Android apps, Sailfish also features support for the hardware that can be found in common Android smartphones and tablets. This ought to make life easy for custom ROM builders to port Sailfish over to the Android platform.

So, we have heard rumors going around that Samsung might very well begin work on a Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 smartwatch, but don’t you think that this would be a little bit premature? After all, the Galaxy Gear smartwatch has not been released worldwide just yet, and we have just gotten word that AT&T will allow you to place a pre-order for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch at 12:01AM ET tomorrow, which would happen to be September 17th.
The folks over at AT&T have not yet revealed any kind of pricing details as well as a release date for the smartwatch, but if one were to take a look at what Samsung did suggest in the past, the Galaxy Gear should arrive Stateside sometime in October with a recommended retail price of $299 a pop. Considering the pre-order timing, it would not be surprising to find out that the Galaxy Gear would arrive right after the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 hits store shelves. Would you want to pony up three Benjamins just to pick up a smartwatch that functions as some kind of minor extension to your smartphone? I think it really depends on the individual, but I guess you can say that this is more of a luxury than necessity at this point in time.

GTA 5 for Xbox 360 comes on two discs. It is mandatory load up the “install” disc on the console’s hard drive, and while there’s nothing stopping gamers from installing the second “play” disc on their console’s hard drive, Rockstar advises that they don’t do that. Rockstar made this recommendation through a tweet, telling users that they shouldn’t install the second disc “for optimal performance.”
The installation of the first disk will take up 7.7GB on Xbox 360′s HDD, the “play” disc will take up an additional 7.8GB of storage if it is installed on the HDD as well. Apparently doing this will affect GTA 5′s ability to stream texture data. It is said that running both DVD and HDD assets from one source, the HDD, is likely to slow access times which may in turn impact streaming performance. The isn’t something that breaks the game, however it will be irritating for the gamer when the game isn’t able to stream objects and textures properly. There’s an obvious advantage of loading everything up on the HDD, no disc will mean no fan noise, unfortunately gamers will have to choose between sound or less than perfect visuals for now. GTA 5 isn’t available for digital delivery on Xbox 360, it remains to be seen if such an issue will be witnessed on PS3, for which the game is going to be available as a digital download from PSN. Looking For The Bed Of Your Dreams? Think Outside The Box Spring With These Fanciful Roosts
Posted in: Today's ChiliWe all know a bed should be comfortable. But there’s something else a bed should be: welcoming. At the end of a long day, when you walk into your bedroom, your heartbeat should slow as you look at this refuge from a fast-paced world. Maybe I expect too much from my bed; but, unless you’re an insomniac, one-third of every day is spent in it. It should be calmingly pretty. Maybe even pretty outrageously cool, pulling you onto it, like a magic carpet ride into your dreams. At least, that’s what the following beds do for their owners.
Even with all the changes iOS 7 brings in and of itself, it seems Twitter is taking the opportunity to not only get an exterior makeover—it wants to completely overhaul the way you—and more importantly, new users—interact with it.
All right, so I have seen fair trade clothes as well as fair trade coffee, but a fair trade smartphone? Somehow, that particular idea does take some amount of time to sink in, and it seems that the world’s first fair-trade smartphone has been aptly called the Fairphone. Just what the heck is the Fairphone, and why does it deserve such recognition? Touted to be the most ethically sourced device on the market, the Fairphone smartphone happens to be the product of the company’s campaign for fair wages as well as working conditions for those who happen to earn a living by being part of the supply chain for smartphone manufacturers.
According to product manager Miquel Ballester, “The whole point of the Fairphone social enterprise and the campaign that came before it is to intervene on the ground where the problems have originated. It’s only as a manufacturer that you’re playing by the same rules as the big brands. Then you can have real impact.”
So far, some smartphone manufacturers, Apple and Samsung included, have been pointed out for rumored links to conflict zone sources when it comes to their smartphone supply chains. The Fairphone itself is made from tin and tantlum, where the materials have been extracted from conflict-free mines in South Kivu in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Ballester did explain the situation further, touting that the Fairphone is not 100% fair trade, but rather, it is “about creating a business environment that favours ethical treatment from the outset.” Hardware specifications of the Fairphone include a 4.3” display, a dual SIM card slot, and a version of Android. Available this December, the Fairphone will cost you £272 a pop, and so far, nearly 15,000 Fairphones have been pre-ordered.
