TSMC Will Reportedly Be The Prime Manufacturer Of Apple A8 Processors

TSMC Will Reportedly Be The Prime Manufacturer Of Apple A8 Processors

Time and time again it has been rumored that Apple is looking to shift its chip manufacturing business away from Samsung. Rumors about this possibility were in circulation prior to the launch of the company’s new iPhones as well, which run on chips made by the company’s rival. The South Korean giant has long remained one of the biggest manufacturers of processors for Apple. A Korean newspaper reports that the A8 processor, which will probably debut with next year’s devices, will be primarily manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. As per the report, TSMC might handle nearly 60 – 70 percent of all A8 manufacturing.

The reason why Apple is said to shift most of its processor business away from Samsung is believed to be the endless legal battles both companies fight, and the fact that both of them are competing for supremacy in the global smartphone market. Earlier this year Apple signed a contract with TSMC, confirming that it will be receiving processors from the Taiwan based company. However, through next year, majority of the manufacturing is said to be done by Samsung. For the A8, it is believed that Samsung will only account for 30 to 40 percent of the total production of this processor, in 2014.

BlackBerry starts selling unlocked Q10 and Z10 phones through its US site

BlackBerry now directly selling unlocked Q10 and Z10 smartphones

It has been possible to snag an unlocked BlackBerry Q10 or Z10 in the US for a while if you’ve been willing to search around, but you now won’t have to. BlackBerry has quietly begun selling unrestricted GSM variants of the two smartphones through its US site at prices of $449 for a Z10 and $549 for a Q10. Either device remains LTE-capable, and both should play nicely with AT&T and T-Mobile. The direct sales aren’t likely to attract many converts, but they should help American fans who may have a tough time finding a BlackBerry in stores.

Why Hasn’t ‘Wonder Woman’ Returned To The Screen?

Hollywood can’t seem to get “Wonder Woman” right on both the big and small screens. Joss Whedon knows that firsthand. The “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” creator was attached to a big screen adaptation of the Amazon Princess, but the project never came to fruition.

“It is hard. She’s a tough nut to crack,” Whedon told EW. “I know she’s famous as a television show, but I don’t think she lends herself to television. I think she only works on an epic scale. I saw a bit of the David E. Kelley [NBC pilot]. That was not a good marriage.”

Microsoft Highlights Start Button Return In First Windows 8.1 Ad

It was first discovered last year that Microsoft was going to remove the traditional Start button in Windows 8, Windows 8 Consumer Preview version which was released back in 2012 did not come with the aforementioned button. It wouldn’t be an understatement to say that the Start button and menu were iconic, they have been around in every single Windows version ever since they debuted with Windows 95 some 15 years ago. After hearing feedback from customers, Microsoft decided earlier this year to bring back the Start button in Windows 8.1. The first ad for the upcoming Windows update highlights the Start button’s return.

The ad also sheds light on Windows 8.1′s ability to boot to desktop. From there, users can click on the Start button to flip back and forth between the desktop and the Metro Start Screen. However, the Start menu has been taken away. The Start button is now a permanent addition to Windows 8.1, users don’t have the ability to switch it off. Microsoft is going to release Windows 8.1 to the public on October 18th. It has already detailed the pricing and packages for the latest Windows update. So while the experience might not entirely be the same, those who didn’t like it when the Start button was taken away now have an added incentive to upgrade to Windows 8.1 when it comes out.

Michele Bachmann: ‘We’re Not Caving In That Easily’ On Government Shutdown Battle

Sitting a matter of hours away from a government shutdown, Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) and a corps of conservatives appear to be far from nervous.

In an interview with the Washington Examiner published Sunday morning, Bachmann explained how Republicans have no fear because they see this Obamacare battle as one of “historic” proportions.

“There is a very large group of us who believe that this is it, this isn’t just another year, this isn’t just another CR fight,” Bachmann said. “This is historic, and it’s a historic shift that’s about to happen, and if we’re going to fight, we need to fight now.”
