Microsoft has released a new report today detailing the number of requests it has received from various law enforcement agencies from around the world. Between January and June 2013, the company received 37,196 requests for data. Seventy seven percent of these requests were for data such as IP history, billing address, and the user’s name. Microsoft says that for 21 percent requests it didn’t have to disclose any data. It also mentions that “some” customer content had to be released for 2.19 percent of the requests. Customer content may include photos saved in SkyDrive, subject and body of email and address book information, as per Microsoft’s own definition. Interestingly, 92 percent of such requests were made by the U.S. government.

London-based tech start-up ROLI has introduced a new musical instrument line that should get musicians and audiophiles salivating. The “Seaboard” is a continuous-touch keyboard with curved “keywaves” (instead of keys) that flow into one another like waves on the sea (thus the name.) This overcomes the step-function limitations of a traditional keyboard, letting musicians bend […]
We’ve heard time and again of hackers based in China allegedly launching cyberattacks against the U.S., however this time around, there appears to be a new contender. Relations between Iran and the U.S. aren’t too spectacular, that’s definitely no secret, so its not entirely impossible to believe that something like this can’t happen between the two. According to a new Wall Street Journal report, unclassified U.S. Navy computers were reportedly compromised by a group of hackers that are either “working directly for Iran’s government,” or they’re acting with the “approval” of Iran’s leaders.
U.S. officials who spoke to WSJ reveal that the attacks have occurred in recent weeks, they’ve not provided a concrete timeline. Furthermore, it is said that the computers that were compromised were low level, meaning that at no point during the alleged attack was any classified or valuable information under any kind of risk. The report also does not elaborate the nature of this attack and its level of sophistication, nor does it discuss the nature of its connection to Iran. Iran has been on the receiving end of cyberattacks such as Flame and Stuxnet, so its likely that U.S. officials might have anticipated a retaliation. According to one official, “their ability to also play in this sandbox compounds that concern,” the concern being that of a retaliation.

A couple of days ago we saw MobileFun’s sticker kit that makes an iPhone 5 look like an iPhone 5S, sorta. It turns out they have a sillier stick-on conversion kit for the iPhone 5. The iFruit vinyl skin is based on Rockstar Games’ eponymous companion app for Grand Theft Auto V. I bet they find this sticker hilarious.
Because the phones are about the same size, the vinyl should fit the iPhone 5s as well. You can order the iFruit skin from MobileFun for $13 (USD). Man, mocking oneself is expensive. To complete the transformation, change your phone’s wallpaper to one of the iFruit app’s backgrounds. Se7ensins forum member Tag 7s extracted the images from the app itself.

If there was ever a case to be made to prolong summer until mmm… let’s say, next summer, it’s “Real Housewives of Miami” star Joanna Krupa. She looks so good in a bikini, it’s practically a crime to have her wear anything else.
Krupa lounged poolside at a friend’s house in Miami yesterday and looked every bit the swimsuit model in a tiny red and leopard-print two piece.
The 34-year-old Polish stunner had a big summer, after tying the knot with Romain Zago in a million dollar wedding back in June.

The New York Times is reporting that the NSA is using all the data it’s collecting on US citizens to make giant "social networks" of everyone their targets know.
WASHINGTON — Thwarted by the U.S. Senate’s insistence on funding the government without attaching any Obamacare riders, the House of Representatives Saturday chose a new confrontational path, dramatically raising the odds of a government shutdown in less that three days.
Egged on by the tea party and like-minded leaders such as Sens. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Mike Lee (R-Utah), the House earlier this month decided to link the funding of the government to ending President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act. The Senate stripped those provisions, leaving the House to meet in an unusual Saturday session.
The new plan would include a one-year delay of Obamacare. The bill also would call for a full repeal of the law’s tax on medical devices, which many members on both sides of the aisle support, but which helps pay for the cost of health-care reform. The bill would include funding for military personnel and would continue funding the government itself until Dec. 15, 2013.
Apple didn’t offer a pre-order program for the iPhone 5s this year, presumably due to supply constraints. However after the new smartphone was launched, the company did allow customers to order a new iPhone 5s through its online store or the Apple Store app and then pick up that unit a day later at an Apple Retail Store. The ability to do this was taken away just after one day, though according to 9to5Mac, Apple may resume iPhone 5s in-store pickup service next week.
Apple hasn’t commented on this report, so it can not be said for sure if iPhone 5s in-store pickup will definitely be resumed next week. It is not known why Apple made the service available and then pulled it after one day, presumably the service went live early due to a glitch. It is also believed that perhaps the service was pulled due to low iPhone 5s stock and the fact that Apple wanted to keep as many units in the inventory as possible at its retail stores to cater to walk-in customers. As per the report, the iPhone 5s in-store pick up service might be resumed as early as Monday, September 30th. Apple is likely to continue to use a “queue card” system for walk-in customers until the initial strong demand diminishes.
