Nexus 7 JSS15Q Update Fails To Fix All Touchscreen Issues

Sometime at the end of last month, there was a new update rolled out for the Google Nexus 7 (2013) which allegedly fixes some issues with the tablet’s touchscreen, but it seems that not all the problems have been handled properly by the JSS15Q update. Among these reported issues by irate users included double taps, phantom taps and overall erratic behavior, in addition to GPS issues. I guess that some users are able to live with such glitches, at least until a proper fix is introduced, while others might be turned off by the experience.

In fact, there has been some new purchasers of the tablet who reportedly are still experiencing some issues with the touchscreen display, and even after installing the JSS15Q update. Speculation is rife that this particular issue might involve incorrect calibration and it might be fixed through another update. If you own a new Nexus 7 (2013 model), how has your experience been so far? Has it put you off Google’s hardware at the moment, or do you have faith that Google will make all things bright and beautiful in due time (even so, hopefully this is done sooner rather than later). If you are an affected user, have you returned your Nexus 7 for a new model, or has applying the update helped you?

Dell Could Work On A Couple More Windows-Powered Tablets

Dell Could Work On A Couple More Windows Powered TabletsDell seems to be on a roll these days, where they recently unveiled a new range of touchscreen monitors as well as improved their Latitude range of Ultrabooks and notebooks. Word on the street has it that they might even be thinking about making a splash into the tablet market with Windows 8.1 as the operating system of choice. Vice Chairman of Dell, Jeff Clark, mentioned that Dell will be introducing additional tablets based on Windows 8.1 as Dell has confidence in Microsoft’s operating system, although it does not seem as though they are going to make a return to the smartphone market anytime soon.

Clarke mentioned that Windows has an advantage over both Android and iOS mobile operating systems where security and management for business computer industry are concerned, and with Windows 8.1 tipped to improve on all the mistakes of Windows 8, Clarke is optimistic that the market share of Windows 8.1 will increase in due time. Industry sources claim that Dell will be rolling out an 8” and 10.6” tablet, with both of them most likely to run on an Intel Atom processor. Do you think that Dell’s foray into the tablet market would be a successful one, and will they be able to stamp their mark on the scene? Only time will tell.

Canon’s Legria mini camcorder wants to be best friends with your social media (hands-on)

Canon Legria mini goes on sale this month, ready to record fullmotion selfies handson

It’s a strange one. Canon’s new pocketable camera certainly isn’t your typical video camera. Aimed squarely at those looking to capture themselves, the Legria mini records up to 1080p video through a special wide-angle (170-degree) lens, ensuring you can fit your whole family (or dance crew?) into your clips. With a 180-degree flexible display on board too, you can adjust the camera’s position as needed. When we tested an early unit in Canon’s home turf in Japan, the combination of both a posable screen and a stand beneath the unit meant getting a good angle from the floor or work surface was a simple task. Behind that wide-angle f/2.8 lens, there’s a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor, mechanical shutter, Canon’s DIGIC DV 4 processor and (in case you needed it) a 12.8-megapixel sensor for stills. Looking to improve your video coverage of, well, you? We’ve got more details and impressions after the break. %Gallery-slideshow76482%

AT&T Partnered With DEA to Provide Access to 26 Years of Phone Records

Since at least 2007, DEA agents and local police detectives have had regular access to a gigantic database that contains detailed records of every American phone call that’s passed through an AT&T switch in the past 26 years. The program, named the Hemisphere Project, also pays AT&T employees to work alongside drug-enforcement officers stationed in three states.

Megaman creator reveals crowd-funded Mighty No.9, his new (familiar-looking) game

Megaman creator launches crowdfunding project for new familiarlooking Mighty No9 game

Keiji Inafune is a bit of a games-making legend. Co-designer of the original Megaman, not to mention producing both the Dead Rising series and multiple Resident Evil titles, he’s going back to his roots. Inafune announced at PAX this weekend that he’s working on a new 2D action shooter, Mighty No.9, that looks (and apparently plays) an awful lot like some of his prior hits. The plot is pretty familiar too: a plucky robot has to battle six rouge automatons (or eight, depending on funding), stealing unique weapons and abilities from each one. According to the man himself, there’s been no reaction from Capcom — at least not yet — and he’s looking for you to help make the game a reality. The project’s live on Kickstarter, and it’s aiming to raise $900,000 (in just 30 days) to develop the title.

Twenty bucks will net backers a digital copy (through Steam), while $40 will also include digital copies of the game manual, art book / strategy guide and a copy of the original soundtrack. Naturally, the game will be ported over to major consoles if backers can reach a set of defined stretch goals. Crank up your donation to $60 and you’ll get it all on old-school physical media, alongside a playable golden version of the game’s protagonist — and we all know everything’s better in gold.

LG will launch its first flat 55-inch OLED HDTV this week in Germany

LG will launch its first flat 55inch OLED HDTV this week

While we’re happy just to see a brand new display technology hit the streets, it was shocking to see LG and Samsung kick off the OLED era with curved displays. That’s going to change however, as LG is bringing the 55EA8800 display to IFA 2013 this week with the notable characteristic of having a shape that’s just like every other HDTV. That it’s flat instead of curved also means this is the first wall-mountable OLED TV, and LG is topping off the experience with 2.2-channel “Canvas Speakers” integrated with a faux art mat behind the display itself. The art theme continues with a “Gallery Mode” that displays high res artwork from painters including Vincent van Gogh and Paul Gauguin, or ones personal family pictures. There’s no word on pricing yet, but after its German introduction other markets are expected to follow — check after the break for the press release and in the gallery for a few more pictures. %Gallery-slideshow77145%
