Sony Not Concerned By Xbox One’s 7-day Head Start In Europe

Sony Not Concerned By Xbox Ones 7 day Head Start In EuropeAs gamers are probably acutely aware by now, the Xbox One is expected to see a release on the 22nd of November. The PlayStation 4, on the other hand, will see a release on the 29th of November in Europe, but a 15th of November release in North America. Essentially what this means is that over n Europe, the Xbox One will have a 7 day head start. This might seem like a big deal to some, but to Sony they don’t appear to be too concerned about that fact. Speaking to CVG during the Eurogamer Expo, Sony UK MD, Fergal Gara, basically called the difference of a week a “moot point”.

“Would you rather have seven days or sixteen months? I think it’s a moot point really, we’re effectively launching at the same time. I don’t think seven days is going to have an advantage or disadvantage. […] [Our price] is an advantage, but it can move over time. Value to the consumer is everything, which is price and quality of content for that price. We feel in very good shape on that front. We’re really pleased.” It is true that the Xbox One is priced about $100 higher than the PlayStation 4, but that is due to the inclusion of the Kinect sensor. Either way we guess we will just have to wait for figures to come in before deciding who did better at launch.

Samsung Responds To Galaxy Note 3 Region Locking

Samsung Responds To Galaxy Note 3 Region LockingJust yesterday we reported on how the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 would be region locked to the region you bought it in. Basically what this means is that if you bought the device in Europe, you would not be able to use a SIM card from the Americas or Asia Pacific region with it, making it highly inconvenient for users who travel frequently.  According to All About Samsung, they claim to have received an official statement from Samsung about the issue, and based on what Samsung has to say, it looks like this could be a software issue as opposed to a hardware one.

The solution suggested by Samsung,  “If purchased in the European Union and not yet been put into use to be activated for the first time abroad, users can unlock their device for the region free from local Samsung service partners.” So this is good news for grey imports, but not so good for users who roam and need to purchase a local SIM card in a particular region as it is generally cheaper to do so than pay roaming charges. Like we said this appears to be a software-related issue, so hopefully in the near future Android hackers will be able to cook up a solution to this problem. In the meantime if you were thinking of picking up the Galaxy Note 3, this is something to think about.
