Sony Sees Substantial Increase In Its Smartphone Sales

Sony Sees Substantial Increase In Its Smartphone Sales

The global smartphone market is very competitive, that’s certainly no secret. You have the big guys, Apple and Samsung, battling it out on top. Then there are a plethora of manufacturers who are competing against each other, while not losing sight of where they ultimately want to be. In recent years, Sony too has emerged as a player in this market. Just this year it has released a number of impressive smartphones that have been very well received. Sony’s reveals in its last quarter’s earnings report that it has seen a 39.3 percent increase in its smartphone shipments as compared to the same time last year.

On the back of strong sales, Sony’s smartphone business also sees a decrease in operating loss of $9 million. Despite that particular business performing well, the company’s other divisions are being given a run for their money in their respective markets. Sony has actually cut down its annual profit forecast from $500 million to $300 million. The company’s camera sales witnessed a 6.9 percent decline, whereas its TV sales are up. In the last quarter, Sony managed to sell 2 million PlayStation 3 units, but its gaming division still posted an operating loss of $8 million. The loss is blamed on “strategic price reduction” of the PS Vita. Sony is hopeful that its new console, the PlayStation 4, will bring the division back to profitability.

    T-Mobile Won’t Offer Nokia’s Latest Devices [Rumor]

T Mobile Wont Offer Nokias Latest Devices [Rumor]

Nokia World 2013 took place on October 22nd, at the event the Finnish manufacturer announced a number of new devices, which include the much rumored Lumia 1520 and Lumia 1320 phablets. Nokia also launched its hotly anticipated tablet, the Lumia 2520, at this event. Both Lumia 1320 and 1520 are going to be exclusive to AT&T in the U.S., whereas the tablet is going to be offered by both Verizon and AT&T. Rumor has it that T-Mobile won’t offer any of the new devices that Nokia has announced.

If this rumor is true, then you might be out of luck if you wanted to pick up one of Nokia’s new devices from T-Mobile. T-Mobile hasn’t officially confirmed this as yet, so it can be said for sure if the carrier really does not intend to carry Nokia’s new devices. The company’s Lumia 521 has been performing well on Magenta, even the Lumia 925 has gained traction. No reason has surfaced as to why T-Mobile is passing on some of the most highly anticipated devices to come out of Nokia. Even if a carrier doesn’t initially carry a device, doesn’t mean that it can’t change its mind in the future. T-Mobile may very well decide to pick up the devices somewhere down the line, or it may never do so at all, we can only wait and see.

How to tell if your kid is addicted to the iPad

Even some babies find iPads second nature.

(Credit: Mike Wilson Tunes/YouTube Screenshot by Chris Matyszczyk/CNET)

The prime purpose of an iPad, at least as far as I understand it, is to keep people quiet.

Let them disappear into their tablet and entertain themselves, and peace will reign.

There is, though, the danger that you might get hooked. Especially if you are, say, 3 years old.

Two British-based psychologists have therefore created a list of five warning signs for parents to look out for.

As the Daily Mail reports, Dr. Richard Graham and Dr. Jay Watts believe that there are clear indicators. And they’re not entirely dissimilar to, say, those associated with drug addiction.

There is, for example, lack of interest in other activities. Some kids are apparently so hooked on their iPads that they simply see no joy in anything else.

Then there’s a peculiar need to always talk about technology or getting easily distracted by it. This isn’t, apparently, the exclusive preserve of nerds. It can happen to anyone.

Another sign is mood swings. Kids, apparently, can get downright irritable and aggressive when told to stop with the gadgets. Some even tell the oldies that they don’t get it, because they never grew up with… [Read more]
