Sony Xperia Z1S Spotted In The Wild [Update]

Sony Xperia Z1S Spotted In The Wild [Update]Thanks to a leaked press render the other day, the Sony Xperia Z1S was revealed. For those unfamiliar, the Sony Xperia Z1S is essentially a smaller version of Sony’s Xperia Z-series of Android smartphones. A similar device called the Xperia Z1 f was actually launched a while back although the handset was a Japan exclusive, leading some to believe that the Xperia Z1S could be the international version that will be making its way to countries other than Japan. In any case thanks to a newly leaked photo, we now have a shot of the Xperia Z1S pictured in the wild lying on top of a pair of Sony headphones (coincidence?), giving us an idea of how “mini” the device is.

Assuming the Xperia Z1S is indeed the international variant of the Xperia Z1 f, we expect the device to come with similar hardware specs. This includes a 4.3” 720p HD display and will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset. It will also boast a 20.7MP camera and will be water-resistant, all of which are pretty impressive specs that have been crammed into a smaller device. It’s funny given that a few years ago, a 4.3” device would not be considered a “mini”, but we guess times have definitely changed. The rumored launch of the device has been pegged for the 12th of November, so check back with us then for the updates.

Update – As it turns out, the device is indeed the Xperia Z according to a clarification by the folks at ePrice who “leaked” the image.

    AquaTop Display for Interactive Bathing

Always in search of new things to blog about, we went out to the Digital Content Expo in Odaiba this Thursday and we were not disappointed. This is our first post showing what we found

The Aqua top display from Koike Laboratory is one of a kind.

Bathtub, water screen, game, toy, Japan, DC expo 2013

The idea came to one of its creators while in the bath, because of the difficulty of bringing an information device such as a personal computer or a tablet in the bathtub. The project took six months to be conceptualized and prototyped, though it’s currently still in the prototype phase.

water screen, display, bathtub, lights & colors, toy, Japan

The system is set up around a bathtub or a 600mm x 900mm x 250mm square plastic tank full of water mixed with commercially available bath milk, on which the display is projected. Both of the containers are equipped with waterproof speakers on the inside to provide greater interactivity. Above the water are suspended a projector and a depth camera (such as Microsoft Kinect) connected to a personal computer. Currently two displays can be projected on the water, a content viewer (for videos or photos) and a jellyfish shooting game.

The liquid display enables the user to become one with it, making for a truly immersive experience as the different functionalities of the display can be controlled both from above and bellow the surface level.

Though, as said before it is still in a prototyping stage, it it not difficult to take a leap and imagine this system being implemented in homes…imagining how much easier it would make a parents life when it comes to making their children take a bath makes it an interesting innovation…until said children refuse to leave the bathtub that is.

SE Hand Powered Dynamo Flashlight is perfect for when you’re in a pinch

    HAND POWERED LIGHT
There are so many different kinds of lighting options out there. Some are crafted from fine materials, others are mass produced and available at almost any convenience store. Of course, should the power go out, it won’t matter what it’s made of, because it won’t work.

Even though we have plenty of lamps and flashlights, there’s always going to be a time where you need another option. It’s a predicament we’ve all faced in the past, and will continue to deal with. The best we can do is try to have as many backups as possible that work in different situations. You can get solar powered, battery powered, hand-cranked, electric, or the most obnoxious option; the squeeze light. The Hand Powered Dynamo Flashlight uses this method, and boy are these things annoying.

They don’t need batteries, and it has LED lights that shine over wherever you need a little extra illumination. Just that information doesn’t make it sound so bad. However, as somone who has built one of these in the past, they are loud as all get out. While the price is $7~, you can certainly find it for cheaper if you hunt, as their bothersome sound often outweighs their use. It will help you when you need it, and is a valid option during a power outage, but it’s certainly one of things you would hope you never have to use.
