Parrot MINIKIT Neo will will answer the phone while you focus on the road

Parrot_MinikitNeo
Having our phone glued to our sides keeps us in the know. The latest news, the up and coming meme, and relationship statuses galore are all information that we want to be knowledgeable on. You can watch the lives of your friends and family, and want to be able to respond at a moment’s notice. However, doing so when you’re driving might get you killed.

Keeping one hand on the wheel and half of your focus on the road while you’re answering a text or email can easily be hazardous for you, passengers, and anyone on the road near you. If you really have to take that call, why not get someone else to do it for you? The MINIKIT Neo by Parrot is a hands-free car kit that will allow you to control aspects of your phone through voice. This means you won’t have to reach for your phone every time it goes off, but can still answer it.

The MINIKIT Neo can pair with your phone contacts so that you can tell it who to call through text-to-speech. It can last for about 10 hours of talking, and six months of standby time on ultra low power mode. Costing around $100, it should pair with just about any Bluetooth phone or device you have. This will clip onto your visor so it won’t get in the way, but it could be useful to have around.

Grover Norquist: Marijuana Tax Won’t Violate My Pledge

Conservative activist Grover Norquist, whose anti-tax pledge has been signed by almost all congressional Republicans, said taxing marijuana would not violate lawmakers’ promise to their constituents to not raise taxes.

“That’s not a tax increase. It’s legalizing an activity and having the traditional tax applied to it,” Norquist told National Journal’s Alex Seitz-Wald. “When you legalize something and more people do more of it and the government gets more revenue because there’s more of it … that’s not a tax increase… The tax goes from 100 percent, meaning its illegal, to whatever the tax is.”

Earlier this year, Norquist forged an unlikely alliance with Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Oregon), who introduced a bill that would reduce the tax burden on small, legal marijuana businesses. Norquist’s group, Americans for Tax Reform, threw support behind the bill.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier trailer sets fire to the future

The first full-length trailer for Captain America 2 has been released, and inside you’ll find no shares of the past. While “The Winter Soldier” was at first – for a very short while – suggested to be covering the World War II-era Steve Rogers, we’re set here in the not-to-distant future with mutants, S.H.I.E.L.D., and […]

This Russian Rifle Fires 800 Rounds Per Minute–Underwater

Russia’s naval special forces, like our Navy SEALs, spend about as much time underwater as they do above it. As such, these aqueous commandos typically are required to carry at least two firearms, one for land assaults and a second outfitted for underwater combat. But this amphibious rifle is equally effective in both environments.

‘Gut sleeve’ might one day help sidestep weight-loss surgeries

The silicone sleeve is placed near the end of the stomach and reaches the first part of the small intestine.

(Credit: Gut)

Bariatric surgery is primarily performed on people who are at least 100 pounds above their ideal weight and haven’t been able to lose weight via diet, exercise, or medication. The aim is to restrict the amount of food people can digest by disrupting their digestive process. It’s both invasive and irreversible — essentially a last-ditch effort.

So a new study on rats out of the University of Cincinnati is worth a look considering the upside if it works on people as well as it did on the trial rats. (At this point, that’s still a big if, though co-lead author Kirk Habegger said he expects these results to carry over to humans.)

Researchers inserted tiny “intestinal barrier sleeves” just inside the ends of the rats’ stomachs and extended the sleeves along the intestine. They did this surgically in the rats, but say that in humans it could be done by endoscopy — through the mouth and down into the gut — which may not sound pleasant but is far less invasive and doesn’t require hospitalization, not to mention the procedure is reversible since the sleeve can be removed.

“The whole key of course is to remove the knife,” Habegger said in an… [Read more]

Microsoft has just posted first quarter earnings that suggest it’s faring well despite a tough PC market. Analyst Doesn’t Expect ‘Meaningful Volume’ Of Retina iPad Mini Shipments Until Q1 2014

Analyst Doesnt Expect Meaningful Volume Of Retina iPad Mini Shipments Until Q1 2014

Apple may have announced its hotly anticipated Retina iPad Mini a few days ago, but that doesn’t mean that the speculation is going to end there. Prior to the announcement, it was being consistently rumored that the new iPad Mini might be in short supply immediately after launch. The reason for supply constraints is believed to be low yield rates of Retina display panels. Director of tablet and monitor research at IHS iSuppli, Rhoda Alexander, doesn’t expect “meaningful” volume of iPad mini shipments until the first quarter of next year.

According to Rhoda, supply for the Retina iPad Mini is “severely constrained.” A number of other analysts have voiced their concerns over shipments as well. Apple didn’t even give a concrete release date for the new iPad Mini, some take this as a sign that the company is having to cope up with inconsistent supply. Apple has said that the Retina iPad Mini will be launched later in November, but hasn’t provided a solid date. If Apple only has a limited amount of iPad Mini units that must be divided in all launch markets, then perhaps it might be a little harder for you to get your hands on a new iPad Mini come launch day.

iPad mini with Retina display supplies a third predicted demand warns IHS

The iPad Air versus iPad mini with Retina display shopping question could be decided by severe shortages of the smaller tablet, analysts predict, with suggestions that supplies of the new high-resolution display could amount to less than a third Apple will need to meet demand. “Production is still ramping up on the 7.9-inch Retina panel […]

The little serial killer sells for $18 and comes complete with a knife, syringe, and even an interchangeable blood slide accessory. The set includes The Governor, Glenn, Sheriff Rick, and a Riot Gear Zombie. You can buy them individually for $17.50 each, or grab the set of four for $60. While she’s not available from MiniBigs, I’ll let you in on a little secret. I have a Michonne minifig that I picked up at Chicago Comic Con this year, so I need to get The Governor just so I can reenact the scene where she turns him into a Cyclops.

As usual, each miniBIGS figure is made using the same quality printing technique used by LEGO, so they’re designed not to fade or scratch off. Awesome job guys! Can’t wait to see what you come up with next!
