Jeanne Shaheen Calls For Obamacare Enrollment Deadline Extension

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) called on the White House Tuesday to extend the open enrollment deadline for Obamacare because of the government’s glitchy website rollout.

In a letter to the White House obtained by Politico, Shaheen said her constituents have faced “incredibly frustrating and disappointing” issues with HealthCare.gov, which had been billed by President Barack Obama as a one-stop marketplace for health insurance.

“As website glitches persist, we are losing valuable time to educate and enroll people in insurance plans,” Shaheen wrote. “I also fear that people that have tried, and failed, to enroll online may become frustrated and not return to the website to try again at a later date.”

White House Official Fired Over Anonymous Tweets

By Roberta Rampton and Steve Holland

WASHINGTON, Oct 22 (Reuters) – A senior White House official who was helping negotiate nuclear issues with Iran has been fired after being unmasked as the acidic voice behind a Twitter account known for its insults of public figures at the White House and on Capitol Hill, a government official said on Tuesday.

Jofi Joseph was director of nuclear non-proliferation on the White House National Security Council staff, but for more than two years sent hundreds of anonymous and abrasive tweets using the handle @NatSecWonk.

He was fired last week after he was caught, the official said.

A White House official confirmed Joseph no longer worked there, but would not comment on personnel matters. The firing was first reported by the website Daily Beast.

In his Twitter biography, now removed from the social networking site, Joseph described himself as a “keen observer of the foreign policy and national security scene” who “unapologetically says what everyone else only thinks.”

As the widely followed @NatSecWonk, Joseph speculated anonymously about the political motives and career moves of administration officials he worked with. They included Ben Rhodes, President Barack Obama’s spokesman on national security issues.

This month, Joseph tweeted that Hillary Clinton, the former secretary of state, “had few policy goals and no wins” in the Middle East. He agreed with Republican Representative Darrell Issa, who has relentlessly pursued Clinton for administration actions after last year’s attack on the U.S. diplomatic post in Benghazi, Libya.

“Look, Issa is an ass, but he’s on to something here with the @HillaryClinton whitewash of accountability for Benghazi,” he tweeted.

He also sniped at U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power’s use of Twitter. “Can someone again brief @AmbassadorPower that Bashar Assad likely doesn’t follow her Twitter feed?” he recently wrote.

Joseph did not respond to phone and email requests for comment, but he told the website Politico he regretted his tweets.

“What started out as an intended parody account of DC culture developed over time into a series of inappropriate and mean-spirited comments. I bear complete responsibility for this affair and I sincerely apologize to everyone I insulted,” Joseph said in an email to Politico.

He also targeted journalists, including Daily Beast reporter Josh Rogin who broke the story of his firing. “Just a hunch, but I have the sense lots of people would like to punch @joshrogin in the face,” he said earlier this month. Apple iOS 7.0.3 Update Launched

Apple iOS 7.0.3 Update LaunchedAmidst the news of the new iPad rollouts, namely the iPad mini with Retina display as well as the new iPad Air, Apple has not forgotten about the software side of things. Here we are with word that Apple has already launched the iOS 7.0.3 update, where this particular release is touted to be relatively generous in bug fixes (which is a good thing in our books), but that is not all. No sir, there will also be a slew of new features thrown into the mix. Where the bugfixes are concerned, the most important ones would include patching up some iMessage activation issues, in addition to resolving the notorious accelerometer issue, all the while making sure that the recently discovered ways to bypass the Lock screen passcode will no longer be a threat to your iOS 7-powered device.

There is a changelog available, and here are some snippets that we have decided to highly. iCloud Keychain has been added so that it can keep track of your account names, passwords, and credit card numbers across all your approved devices. Not only that, Safari gets a Password Generator so that it can suggest unique, hard-to-guess passwords for your online accounts. The ability to search the web and Wikipedia from Spotlight search has also been reintroduced, while it also fixed an issue where iMessage failed to send for some users.

Social Network Drama Doesn’t Stop At 50, Study Says

Just because they’re considered “mature adults” doesn’t mean post 50s are immune to the same kind of drama endured by teens on Facebook. A new survey conducted by the security technology company, McAfee, found four in five adults, ages 50-75, are active on social networks.

The majority, 75 percent, are active Facebook users. They’re using the site to find long lost high school buddies, stay in touch with family and keep up with personal interests. That’s the good part. But they’re are also landing themselves in some hot water.

Just over 15 percent say they’ve experienced something negative on the site, including spats with friends and significant others sometimes leading to serious actions like defriending. They’re also being worryingly trusting with sharing personal information online — a trend that’s common for social media users across the board.

New iPad Users Get 200MB Free Data Per Month On T-Mobile

New iPad Users Get 200MB Free Data Per Month On T MobileDon’t you just love the free market and a capitalist mindset? Of course, there is no economic model that will be 100% foolproof, but it does seem that capitalism has a whole lot more advantages compared to disadvantages, and with the recently announced iPad Air as well as iPad mini with Retina display, pricing details have already begun to be announced by different carriers. We have already brought you what Sprint had to say about the situation, and it does seem that the folks over at T-Mobile do have an enticing carrot that hopes to entice the masses to sign up with them.

Just how attractive is T-Mobile’s offer? How about 200MB of free data each month if you end up as a new iPad owner? This would definitely undercut AT&T’s entry-level offering of $14.99 for the same amount of data each month, but it must be noted that AT&T does offer additional data for $30 a pop, with 3GB included. As for T-Mobile, they will throw in 2.5GB of data at a similar price point.

It would be interesting how far will customer loyalty go when it comes to getting the best bang for your hard earned buck. Out of all the mobile carriers, who would you stick with when it comes to the new iPads?

Sprint Announces iPad Air Availability On November 1st

Sprint Announces iPad Air Availability On November 1stSo now that the dust has settled from all of the announcements made by Apple concerning their new free software as well as a couple of new iPads, it is time for mobile service providers to step forward and start offering the new wares with their respective data plans, too. Sprint is one of them, having announced that it will offer the iPad Air with Wi-Fi and Cellular on Friday, November 1st. Apart from that, the smaller iPad mini with Retina display too will be on offer later in the month, featuring both Wi-Fi and Cellular models to boot. According to Sprint, the tablet plans will be as low as $5 a month.

It does not matter if you are taking the full-sized iPad Air or the smaller iPad mini with Retina display, as both of them will run on a 64-bit A7 processor. There will be no Touch ID fingerprint scanner that is found on the iPhone 5s, so I would go out on a limb here and say that this could be because they are reserving it for a new iPad refresh sometime next year. The Wi-Fi and Cellular variant of the iPad Air from Sprint will retail for $629 for 16GB, $729 for 32GB, $829 for 64GB, and $929 for 128GB.

Those who want the iPad mini with Retina display with Wi-Fi and Cellular will have to fork out $529, $629, $729 and $829 for the 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB models, respectively. [Press Release]
