‘Asexuality: An Overview’ By Julie Decker Explains A Frequently Misunderstood Identity
Posted in: Today's ChiliAs we continue our celebration of Asexuality Awareness Week in conjunction with LGBT History Month, it is important that we take a moment to discuss and deconstruct what it actually mean to identify as asexual.
Julie Decker, also known as Swankivy, is an asexual activist and blogger who previously worked with HuffPost Gay Voices on a six-part series about asexuality. This in-depth analysis and first-hand perspective sought to “explore the history of the asexual movement, uncover current research on asexuality, debunk common misconceptions and discuss the challenges the asexual community faces.”
“When people hear that you’re asexual, some take that as a challenge,” Decker previously told The Huffington Post. “We are perceived as not being fully human because sexual attraction and sexual relationships are seen as something alive, healthy people do. Wes Monroe, a freshman at Iowa State University, lost his wallet last month on the way to class one morning. He forgot it on top of his car while filling up gas, and it fell onto a nearby entrance ramp as he drove onto the highway, he told The Huffington Post via email.
The wallet was later discovered by Laura Diers, a mother of four from Boone, Iowa. She found the wallet mostly empty but was able to determine its owner from the driver’s license and college ID it contained. Diers decided to return the wallet to its young owner — but not before slipping in a $10 bill and writing Monroe a note with some motherly advice.

McCain will be 80 years old in 2016, when his current term — his fifth in the Senate — ends.
