GTA 5 Has Nearly 30 Easter Eggs

GTA 5 Has Nearly 30 Easter EggsTo say that GTA 5 is a huge success is not too far off from the truth. The game has already set 7 Guinness world records in the process along the way, and earned truckloads of money for Rockstar Games, too. Having been in stores for a month already, it has ended up as the most successful video game launch of all time, although there were some bumps along the way. Some gamers are happy completing the title once or twice, while others are more ambitious than that. This particular group would prefer to play the game for all that it is worth, looking all over the place for Rockstar Games’ signature Easter eggs.

So far, gaming site IGN did list 29 of such Easter eggs, secrets and pop culture references on GTA 5. Needless to say, the first GTA 5 Easter egg listed was a reference to Grove Street, which happens to be the main setting of GTA: San Andreas as well as the street where its protagonist, Carl “C.J.” Johnson actually grew up in. As for pop culture references, there are plenty in GTA 5, where one of them actually paid tribute to the Thelma and Louise ending, as a couple of ladies flew off a cliff in their convertible as they were making their way from the cops in the evening.

Have you enjoyed your GTA 5 experience so far?

It’s free, and it’s available right now.

Bing Gets New Speech Recognition Control

Bing Gets New Speech Recognition Control It does seem as though Microsoft’s Bing has just received a spanking new speech recognition control as well as an updated Bing OCR and Translator controls. The new Bing Speech Recognition Control for Windows 8 and 8.1 have been released, where it will be accompanied by updates to the Bing Optical Character Recognition Control for Windows 8.1 as well as Bing Translator Control for Windows 8.1, where it would allow developers to be more knowledgeable, natural, and aware applications. Speech Recognition for Windows 8.0 and 8.1 would mean you will be able to simply speak to your handset for a truly hands-free experience. This lets you interact more naturally with your devices to dictate emails, look for the latest news, and navigate through your apps among others.

Should you be a Windows Phone developer, you would be familiar with the speech recognition within Windows Phone. It takes as little as ten lines of C# + XAML or JavaScript + HTML for you to place a SpeechRecognizerUX control in your application, in addition to a microphone button as well as a TextBlock, accompanied by the required code to support them. Whenever you tap or click the mic, you will hear a blip, or “earcon”, which is the signal that you can speak there and then. [Press Release]

iOS 7 By The Numbers: 200 Million Downloads In 5 Days, 64% Adoption Rate, 20 Million iTunes Radio Listeners

    iOS numbers

In San Francisco today, Apple shared some numbers during its keynote. Only five days after the iOS 7 release, 200 million devices ran the new operating system. It represents a 64 percent adoption rate to date. “This blows away the other guys,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said on stage.

As always, this massive adoption rate is one of Apple’s major strengths. While many believed that iOS 7 could be disorienting to iOS 6 users, the adoption rate is pretty similar to older iOS releases. Users can now update over the air, carriers don’t have a say and many older iPhones and iPads are compatible. All those key elements make the iOS adoption rate much faster than the Android or Windows Phone adoption rates.

Apple introduced a new feature in iTunes both on the mobile devices and on computers, iTunes Radio. For this feature alone, Apple touts 20 million listeners. While 20 million listeners is much less impressive than the 200 million iOS 7 user number, many of these users were already listening to music through Pandora. We don’t know whether those numbers are above or below Apple’s expectations. It’s a good start, but clearly not enough to compete with Pandora.

As a reminder, iTunes Radio is not available in every country where Apple sells iPhones. Only a fraction of iPhone, iPad and iTunes users can use iTunes Radio. As content deals are hard to sign, getting iTunes Radio into everyone’s hands will be the next difficult step for Apple.
