The One Laptop Per Child (OLPC) initiative has been operating for a number of years in an attempt to get every child in a developing nation their own laptop to help their education. Originally, the OLPC was exclusively delivering small notebook computers that were much like Netbooks of a few years ago. OLPC is now […]

Early on Nintendo hit a home run with the original Wii game console. The console sold huge numbers and many gamers waited in line for hours to get their hands on Nintendo’s latest console. Sony says that earlier this year when the hastag #PlayStationMemories was trending it read a bunch of the tweets and messages that went along with the hastag. The electronics giant wanted to make a film that it feels represents what the PlayStation has meant to gamers since it debuted in 1995. Sony thinks that everyone […]
Can you be cheap and smart at the same time? Nokia says yes, and the refreshed and expanded Asha range is the result, the new 500, 502, and 503. Following in the dainty footsteps of the surprisingly well-received Asha 501 back in July, the trio of MeeGo-inspired handsets aren’t going to squash Nokia’s Lumia line-up, but […]
The other day we reported that due to taxes and other various costs, Sony’s PlayStation 4 would end up costing Brazilian gamers R$3,999, which when converted is about $1,850, an eye-watering amount that would have netted gamers in the US about 4 PlayStation 4 console units already. Naturally many were outraged, despite not being Brazilians themselves, as the idea of forking out close to $2,000 for a console is a little ridiculous, and some have accused Sony of being greedy. Interestingly enough Sony has since released a statement about the price of the PS4 in Brazil, and it sounds like they’re not too happy about having to charge that much either.
According to the statement, “We want to emphasise that it isn’t in the interest of Sony Computer Entertainment America to sell PS4 units at this high retail price, as it’s not good for our gamers and it’s not good for the PlayStation brand.” They go on to offer a breakdown of the price at Valor Economico (it’s written in Portuguese) and state that they are working with government agencies at bringing down the price, as well as the possibility of manufacturing the console locally as they did with the PlayStation 3 which would undoubtedly help reduce their costs drastically. However until then, we guess gamers in Brazil will just have to contend with the outrageous price tag.

BlackBerry Announces 5 Million Download Milestone For BBM On iOS And Android
Posted in: Today's ChiliBBM for iOS and Android was finally re-released and last we heard, the app managed to sail to the number 2 position on the iTunes App Store (we hear that it is now number 1). Given the popularity the last time round, we expect that now with the app having its issues fixed and being all official, many would be eager to download it and according to the recent numbers released by BlackBerry, they claim that BBM for iOS and Android have managed to hit the 5 million mark in about 8 hours since it was launched. We’re not sure if iOS beat out Android for downloads, or vice versa, or it could have been an even 50-50.
It is also not clear as to whether this 5 million is talking about just downloads alone, or activations so far, because if it is the latter, we expect the total number to be much higher. As it stands those on iOS and Android who want to use the app will have to sign up and be put on a waiting list, presumably to prevent BlackBerry’s servers from overloading. It is unclear how long users will have to wait, but if you’re interested we guess you should probably get in line ASAP! With this surge in popularity, we have to wonder if it’s merely the novelty of using BBM on iOS and Android, or if it’s because it has the potential to overtake messaging apps such as WhatsApp, Line, Kik, and etc. What do you guys think?
