Given that gamers have spent almost a decade with the PlayStation 3 controller, changing it up drastically does not seem wise as it could throw off a lot of gamers, but at the same time innovations had to be made which is why it is not surprising that Sony went through multiple prototypes before deciding on the final form factor of the DualShock 4 controller for their upcoming PlayStation 4 console. Digital music distribution and consumption has pretty much been kept the same way for quite a while now, where consumers can choose to either stream music or download it directly onto their devices. It’s not a bad model but perhaps a model that can change in the future, and perhaps one way to go about doing that is by launching music albums not just as digital music downloads, but perhaps as an app. We’ve seen several artists attempt that in past, but “Sadly by Your Side” has got to be one of the more creative and unique ways to go about doing that. We have heard the back and forth about how Instagram would be making its way onto Windows Phone, although last we heard, it was a big no. Well the good news is that for whatever reason that Instagram chose not to launch on Windows Phone, they have decided against that, with the company’s CEO, Kevin Systrom, announcing that the official Instagram app for Windows Phone devices will be making its way onto the platform in the coming weeks. This was revealed during Nokia’s Abu Dhabi event where several Nokia devices like the Lumia 2520 tablet and the Lumia 1520 phablet were revealed.
According to Systrom, “Our ultimate goal is to bring Instagram to everyone who wants to use it […] We’re looking forward to watching the Windows Phone community use Instagram to capture and share beautiful moments in the coming weeks.” No specific launch dates were mentioned but at least it’s a confirmation. As it stands Windows Phone owners have access to a bevy of third-party Instagram apps so we have to wonder what will happen to them once the official app is launched. It is possible that these third-party apps could offer up more features and functions than the official app that would keep it relevant, but we guess we will just have to wait and see.
