Robotena The Nurse Robot Moves Injured Away From Danger

Robotena The Nurse Robot Moves Injured Away From DangerRobots are meant to help humanity in their very own way, which is a good thing. We are just keeping our fingers crossed that robots do not gain that kind of self awareness that would enslave us all, just like all those apocalyptic scenarios that we have seen in science fiction movies. Well, here is a robot that knows the value of a life. Robotena, as “she” is called, is a nurse robot that is capable of moving the injured away from snipers on the streets of Syria. After all, it makes perfect sense. Anyone who wants to help someone who has been shot in the street by a sniper would run the risk of being shot him or herself, so why not send out a robot? Unless the sniper knows of the Robotena’s weak points, wasting bullets on a hunk of metal with the risk of revealing one’s position could be too much.

Ahmad Heidar hopes his invention of Robotena will be able to ensure that help will reach those injured in such vile attacks. Heldar said, “The brother of one of my students got shot in the leg. It was such a memorable moment.” It a few minutes, a fatal shot to the neck had killed him, while another half an hour was required to remove the body away from the sniper’s threat. It does start to sound as though the military might want to dip their fingers into the Robotena first though.

Neo900 Rolls Back The Years With Open Hardware

Neo900 Rolls Back The Years With Open HardwareIt feels as though it is a long time ago when the Nokia N900 was released, and back then, Nokia was pretty much a big player in the mobile phone business still, at least not in a position of where it is today. Those were the days when Nokia rolled out a range of high end smartphones that were specially designed to run the open source Maemo Linux operating system. Well, it is time to roll back the years with the Neo900, where it will come with a similar look and feel of the now defunct Nokia N900, albeit sporting a more updated processor, additional RAM, apart from the ability to run a wide range of software that will include Maemo, Android, and perhaps even Ubuntu or Firefox OS.

The entire goal of the Neo900 is to offer a truly open platform, without making use of any proprietary binary blobs. That ought to make it relatively easy for you to port new operating systems in order to have it run on the device. However, do make no mistake about it – it is crystal clear that the Neo900 was specially designed in order to be a successor to the Nokia N900, sporting a rather similar case form factor apart from other bits and pieces of its hardware. Of course, if you were to take the Neo900’s hardware specifications into consideration for today’s standards, it does look rather dated, but that is to be expected since it needs to run on an operating system which was meant for a 4-year old device.

A-Rod Lawyers Blocked By MLB From Presenting ‘Whistleblower,’ Asked To Open Hearing To Public

NEW YORK — NEW YORK (AP) — Blocked from holding a news conference Monday to present a person they described as a “major league baseball whistleblower,” Alex Rodriguez’s lawyers asked that the rest of the grievance hearing to overturn his 211-game drug suspension be opened to the public.

Rodriguez’s legal team called a 5 p.m. news conference at the midtown Manhattan office of Reed Smith, one of the law firms representing the New York Yankees third baseman. More than an hour later, Reed Smith partner James McCarroll read from a piece of paper and said arbitrator Fredric Horowitz issued an order restraining them from “conducting any press conference or briefing regarding the subject matter of the hearing.”

Samsung Galaxy S5 Rumored To Feature 16MP Camera, Possibly Made By Sony

Samsung Galaxy S5 Rumored To Feature 16MP Camera, Possibly Made By SonyRecently the rumors of Samsung’s Galaxy S5 have started to make their rounds, and with the handset pegged for an early 2014 announcement, this hardly comes as a surprise. The latest rumor from Korean news portal, ETNews, has suggested that Samsung could be introducing a 16MP rear-facing camera in the Samsung Galaxy S5, and that the sensor could either be manufactured by Sony or by Samsung’s very own System LSI division. Given Sony’s size and status as one of the largest sensor makers in the world, they will be able to produce on the scale that Samsung might need, as well as offer competitive prices, but at the same time the report claims that Samsung’s System LSI division is trying to ramp up its output to match Sony.

In any case whichever source that Samsung chooses, it is expected that their decision will be made by the end of the year. With camera megapixels on smartphones increasing with every upgrade, making the jump from 13MP to 16MP is not a stretch of the imagination, although as we have stated before, more megapixels does not necessarily translate into better photographs. In fact Samsung Electro-Mechanics has recently developed a 13MP module with optical image stabilization which might be more desirable than a camera module that just has a larger sensor. In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but check back with us down the line for more Galaxy S5 updates.
