Cars produce thousands of data points every second, yet we’ve been trained to believe that a car should give us information with these tiny mechanical gauges that mostly hover somewhere in the middle. Yahoo is planning to launch a consumer tech website with the help of long-time NYT columnist David Pogue.
The news comes by way of Brian Stelter, another NYT writer, who reports via Twitter that Pogue announced his new plans in an internal memo at the New York Times.
Longtime NYT columnist David @Pogue “is leaving to help launch a consumer-tech site at Yahoo,” per an internal memo.

David Pogue has also confirmed the plans on his own Twitter, posting that he will be leaving the NYT for Yahoo after 13 years of tech journalism.

So about this consumer tech site… What should we expect? For now, details are incredibly scarce. However, Pogue’s blog post on the matter does drop a few hints.
Actually, “site” doesn’t even cover it. I’ll be writing columns and blog posts each week, of course, and making my goofy videos. But my team and I have much bigger plans, too, for all kinds of online and real-world creations.
Marissa Mayer, Yahoo CEO, has also posted a blog post on the company’s official Tumblr welcoming Pogue to the company. Here’s what she has to say about the addition:

David Pogue has been in the technology industry longer than the smartphone.
He’s written several books, including seven for the For Dummies series as well as his own Missing Manual series, and has been on a number of television programs including his own series “It’s All Geek To Me” which aired on the Discovery Channel.

Rockstar has been trying to make good on its previous launch issues with Grand Theft Auto Online by offering players a ton of in-game cash as a way to make things up to players who experienced the service’s growing pains, although it looks like not all of the issues can be fixed. If you’ve been playing Grand Theft Auto Online and have been enjoying making tons of cash when replaying missions, your joyride is now over as Rockstar has confirmed repeating missions will only pay out half of the usual amount of in-game cash. The UBR-1, the first robot from Unbounded Robotics, a spin-off of Willow Garage, provides multifunctionality at a fraction of the cost of its spiritual predecessor, Willow Garage's PR2.

Three years ago, a Silicon Valley robotics startup called Willow Garage shook things up by offering one of the first robots capable of a wide range of different functions rather than a single focused task.
The so-called PR2 could do anything from folding laundry to picking up something from the floor to delivering a beer, and it was instantly the darling of researchers and robotics fans. The only problem was that it cost $400,000.
Now, several ex-Willow Garage employees have spun off their own company, known as Unbounded Robotics, and their first product is a very PR2-like machine — a robot with a nearly unlimited number of potential applications, but which costs just $35,000.

Google’s Chromebooks have certainly been receiving some much needed attention in the past couple of weeks as HP revealed its Chromebook 11 as well as a promotion that the company expects to give away hundreds of Chromebooks. It looks like another company may be joining the Chrome OS bandwagon as LG has filed for trademarks that would possibly bring three new devices to market.
LG filed trademarks for the ChromeOne, ChromeDesk and ChromeStation on October 15, with the three trademarks list the device class of these products as “Laptop computers; Computers; Convertible computers; Tablet computers.” Considering LG and Google have been working together for the Nexus 4 and the upcoming Nexus 5, we’re not completely surprised to hear both companies would be working together yet again to offer Chrome OS computers in the future.
When and if we’ll hear about the ChromeOne, ChromeDesk and ChromeStation is unknown at this point, but we’re sure it won’t be long until we hear something in regards to each computer. Hopefully Google will hold another promotion to give away Chrome OS products as we’d certainly like the chance to win one of the three that LG is expected to release in the near future.
