Nokia Guru With NFC Leaked

Nokia Guru With NFC LeakedApparently, a Twitter account – @evleaks in particular, recently unveiled the alleged code name of what could very well be a future Nokia handset, with the name being a rather wise sounding Nokia Guru. I sure as heck hope that one does not need to climb mountains as well as sleep on a bed of nails in order to qualify for the purchase of the Nokia Guru! Unfortunately, that is about all we know of the Nokia Guru, other than the fact that the Twitter account also mentioned that NFC plus iPod Shuffle equal to Nokia Guru.

Now, how are we to interpret such data? Based on the analysis, it seems that there is a very good chance that the Nokia Guru could very well end up as a portable music player that will feature NFC capability. Who knows, the NFC feature could very well be the bridge that will pave the way for the transfer of songs. Alternatively, the Nokia Guru might be another Windows Phone 8-powered smartphone which will place a strong emphasis on music – just like how Nokia did all those years ago with the introduction of the Nokia Xpress Music. Well, as with the case of all other rumors and speculation, only time will be able to tell whether it is going to pan out true or not.

Datawind’s Sub-$50 Android Tablet Hitting The UK Soon, Next-Gen Device Matches iPad Specs On Paper

    aakash

The Datawind Aakash tablet made headlines when it promised to deliver a full-featured Android device for just under $50 a couple of years back, and now the company and the device have shared some new info regarding their progress at Wired’s 2013 London event. Datawind CEO Suneet Tuli revealed that so far, the company has shipped around 1 million low-cost tablets, with plans in the pipeline that could see them increase that number exponentially both in India and in other developing markets around the world.

Part of those plans include introducing its low-cost hardware in the west for the first time, via retail sales to kick off in the UK by the end of the year. Four different models of the Aakash (called the UbiSlate now per official trade dress) will be available to UK buyers, starting at £29.99 for the UbiSlate 7Ci (Aakash2), and ranging up to £99.99 for the UbiSlate 3G7. Tuli told me via email that the company’s upcoming Aakash4, which has a processor and RAM that actually exceeds the current iPad’s on paper (with a 1.5GHz dual-core A9 processor, and 1GB of RAM), will be available as well, and will be branded as the UbiSlate 7CZ.

The Aakash4 represents a major technological leap forward for the Aakash, made possible by continued downward pressure on the pricing of components used in smartphone and tablets, and by Datawind’s ownership of its own LCD panel and touch screen production, when its original supplier unfortunately had to close up shop. Tuli said that, in fact, they found that the margins on manufacturing touchscreens were much better than those on their device business, but rather than switch which business they were in, they used that price advantage to drive down the overall cost of their products.

That’s been to their lasting advantage, and after some initial hiccups (including shipping delays and potential government disinterest in the product, which Tuli previously addressed), the company seems to be on track to starting to make good on its vision of a world where even some of the poorest people in the world can get online with a smart, connected device. Datawind has also been criticized by some for focusing too much on Aakash hardware, but Tuli says the company is more focused on delivering Internet to those that lack it. Accordingly, they’re working on deals that should allow them to ship Aakash tablets with free basic browsing connections by year’s end, which solves the other half of the equation between devices and service for getting those typically unplugged online.

Hackers Figured Out How to Hijack Shipping Vessel Tracking Systems

A team of white hat hackers recently figured out how to break into the navigation technology used to track 400,000 shipping vessels worldwide. With this kind of access they could hypothetically make it appear as if a fleet of mystery ships was about to invade New York City. This is not good.

TapTap wristband helps you keep in touch with your loved ones

taptap-wristbandHave you heard of Woodenshark before? Well, here is a little bit of background information on them – they happen to be the creators of the TV ambient light system Lightpack, and have announced the launch of yet another Kickstarter campaign which will see the potential funding of TapTap by the masses. TapTap will come across as a wristband that was specially designed in order for one to keep in touch with your significant across a long distance.

How does TapTap work? For starters, TapTap will be able to sense your “taps”, where it will then instantly transmit them to the paired wristband that is worn by your other half. It does not matter how far away they are, even if they are separated by 10 time zones, they will still be able to experience a vibration when you tap on your TapTap. In a nutshell, the TapTap would be able to open up endless possibilities that will be able to see the creation of special signals that might go some ways to enrich your long-distance relationship.

TapTap also takes pride in its deliberate rejection of integration with social networks, which is something that is slightly different from what we have experienced these days. All communications are fully encrypted between paired TapTaps, so none of the information will be stashed away where someone else will be able to retrieve it later on.

Developers who are interested in the TapTap will be able to use open SDK and built-in sensors in order to create apps for TapTap, where among them include smart alarms, activity trackers and gesture controllers for gaming purposes. Some of the other apps such as RunKeeper are also supported out of the box. The TapTaps will obviously be sold in pairs for $130 per set, and can be delivered separately according to the color of your choice.
