Xbox One Machinima App Lets You View Help Videos While Playing: “Xbox, I Suck”

Some older gamers complain that we’re spoiled today because of the wealth of guides, cheats and tips available online. If you’re one of those gamers, you’ll hate Machinima’s Xbox One app. The rest of you, feel free to rejoice. The app will let you view videos related to the game you’re currently playing. Because of the console’s multitasking feature, you’ll be able to watch videos and play your game at the same time.

While playing a game, you can start the Machinima app by saying “Xbox, snap Machinima.” Once it opens, the app will then load Machinima videos that are related to the game you’re playing. You can then watch videos from the side of your screen, while your game takes up most of your display. If you have a mobile device, you’ll also have the option of using the app from inside Xbox SmartGlass.

I don’t know if the app can recognize what part of the game you’re playing or if you’ll have to search for a relevant video yourself. That said, Machinima is working on what it calls Wingman, a series of official help videos for certain Xbox One games that will have detailed and exclusive content. You can expect that feature to come with a price tag.

The Machinima app will be available on November 22, i.e. the same day the Xbox One is released. I wish Shin Megami Tensei IV had this feature built-in. Damn you Tokyo and your stupid overworld map!

AT&T Announces $5 Day Pass For Tablet Users

AT&T Announces $5 Day Pass For Tablet Users

Companies release tablets in both Wi-Fi only and Wi-FI plus cellular compatibility configurations. Tablet sales have skyrocketed over the past few years, and Wi-Fi only models have raked in considerably more customers than their cellular compatible counterparts. That’s because Wi-Fi only tablets tend to be cheaper, and the perfect option for those who are content with connecting to a Wi-Fi network whenever the need for a data connection arises. Mobile carriers don’t make any money off of them, and most customers who do have cellular compatible tablets, usually try to connect to a Wi-Fi network when they can to save on data charges. AT&T has a new plan that provides data to customers and brings in money, a $5 day pass that’s compatible with 3G and LTE compatible tablets.

A clear benefit of this new plan is geared towards travellers, who can simply pay $5 for a day’s worth of data access that ends up being cheaper than the usually expensive hotel Wi-Fi. $5 will give them 250MB of mobile data each day, the carrier says that it will make it easy for customers to purchase day passes through their tablets. Those who want more data allowance can pay $25 for 1GB that can be utilized within a three month period. The $5 day pass obviously won’t be enough for those who want to stream videos and download excessively on their tablets, but it should do the trick for business travellers who want to keep up with their emails, news and the occasional web browsing session.

My favorites in budget Bluetooth sound

Bluetooth sound is all around, but the best budget options aren't always clear.

I’m a proud member of the Bluetooth cyborg army. I’m the guy who always seems to be talking to himself in the car next to you at red lights, and I’m the dude at the gym working out to Spotify, podcasts, or Audible with a flashing thing in my ear. Since going wireless for almost all my audio needs, I’ve never looked back and have actually become a bit of a connoisseur, particularly when it comes to budget Bluetooth options.

What I’ve discovered over the past few years is that Bluetooth, in my opinion, is a pretty mature technology and there’s not a whole lot of extra value to be found in the very top-of-the-line headsets and speakers, even for power users like myself. The latest and greatest Bluetooth audio accessories tend to add a lot of gimmicky features — along with iterative audio quality improvements, sure, but they’re not always immediately not… [Read more]

United Airlines Website Loophole Grants Travelers Unlimited Miles, Virtually Free Tickets

If you were one of the lucky travelers who believed they purchased tickets on United’s website for next to nothing Monday, the airline has some bad news for you.

United has decided not to honor those reservations because the extremely low prices resulted from users’ “knowing manipulation of United.com,” United spokesman Charlie Hobart told The Huffington Post. As such, he says, United isn’t on the hook.

On Monday, Mashable reported visitors to United.com were able to “trick” the site into thinking they had more frequent flier miles than they actually did. By booking a reservation in two different tabs of a browser, customers could game a loophole and redeem unlimited miles.
