Wikitude Studio Upgrade Brings Video Augmentations

Wikitude Studio Upgrade Brings Video Augmentations

Wikitude Studio has received an upgrade which brings a number of interesting features, such as a new transparent background for text augmentations, zooming ability for target images and a number of tweaks to the user interface. One major addition is video augmentations. For those who don’t know, Wikitude Studio is an online augmented reality tool that allows users to create, manage and publish augmented reality experiences.

So Wikitude Studio users can now add video augmentations in their AR projects. Adding videos is actually quite easy, users have to insert the appropriate URL for the video and match the file with a source trigger. Wikitude Studio is capable of working with self-hosted videos or videos that are hosted on Vimeo and YouTube, by default. Apart from this, the static canvas has been replaced with a zoomable canvas in Studio, which allows users to zoom in and out of their target image. This increases ease of use, particularly when users are working with large target images such as panoramas. With the addition of a transparent background option for text augmentations, users are now free to insert text anywhere they want while giving only minimal consideration to the background. The updated Wikitude Studio is now live, updated and ready to use.

In the US, unlocked devices like the Nexus 4 and the suite of Google Play editions are starting to become popular, as a growing number of consumers eschew the tradition of buying phones under subsidy in exchange for a two-year contract. Google Could Have Own Smartwatch, Too

Google Could Have Own Smartwatch, TooThe smartwatch industry seems to be a growing one, and we have just discussed about the possibility of Nokia rolling out a smartphone of their own, in addition to Adidas, too, having a pseudo-smartwatch that they have called the miCoach Smart Run. Well, Google might be busy trying to manage all the news about Android 4.4 KitKat with its numerous speculated release dates, but it does seem that the Internet search giant could also have another surprise up their sleeves with whispers of a Google smartwatch in the pipeline, waiting to be unveiled to the world this coming October 31st.

Yes sir, it is tipped that this Google smartwatch, which will obviously be powered by the latest Android 4.4 KitKat mobile operating system, might just debut when Halloween rolls around. That also happens to be the alleged launch date of the Android 4.4 KitKat operating system. No idea on what this smartwatch will be called, but if we were to follow past naming conventions by Google, it will most probably make it to be part of the Nexus family. Will LG play a role here? Perhaps, as the company has already showed off the LG G Flex render that sports a curved display – which is ideal for any timepiece for sure.

Why Exercise When You Can Buy a $50 Fake-Muscle T-Shirt?

Fifty bucks might sound expensive for an undershirt, but not when it means you can cancel your gym membership, stop buying gallons of protein powder, and sell all of your home gym equipment. Because not only does the Funkybod t-shirt promise to camouflage manboobs, it also creates the illusion you’ve got a muscular toned physique, no matter how frail you might be in real life.

Electronic makeup lets you control gadgets with a wink

If you can wear electronics on your wrists, in your clothing, and even as stick-on tattoos, why not paint them on your skin?

Computer scientist Katia Vega from the Pontifical Catholic University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has created what she is calling Beauty Technology, a range of wearable cosmetics that conduct electricity and control devices. Blinklifier, demonstrated at the Interactive Tabletops and Surfaces Conference in the UK, lets the wearer power devices on and off just by blinking.

It consists of a set of metallized false eyelashes and conductive eyeliner. Together, they track the contraction of the eye muscles and the movement of the eyelid when the wearer blinks. When the eyelashes touch each other, they close the circuit, sending the activation or deactivation signal.

    Vega has … [Read more]

Cheap Haswell Based Tablets And Notebooks Expected Around The Holidays

Cheap Haswell Based Tablets And Notebooks Expected Around The Holidays

The holiday season sees customers clamoring to get the best deals on the latest gadgets, tablets and notebooks are certainly on many shopping lists. This holiday season, customers might have a number of such device to choose from at a reasonable rate. Talking with analysts recently, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich said that he expects manufacturers to release cheap Haswell processor powered tablets, notebooks and tablet/notebook hybrids around the holidays, which might be priced around $99, $299 and $349 respectively.

In the center of this year’s holiday PC lineup, Krzanich expects to see notebooks with touchscreen displays powered by Intel’s Haswell processors. According to Intel’s claims, Haswell processors offer 50 percent more battery life and double the graphics performance, at a relatively affordable price. OEMs benefit from this, which will ultimately allow them to manufacturer tablets that go for as low as $99 and notebooks with touchscreen displays for just $299. It remains to be seen just how many OEMs get their devices out in time for the holidays, a season where sales of Android and iOS mobile devices are particularly strong. $99 tablets might be able to put a dent into the consumer interest that almost similarly priced Android tablets rake in. The holiday season isn’t far off, so its only a matter of time before we see some of these new devices being announced.

Adidas Joins The Smartwatch Fray With The miCoach Smart Run

Adidas Joins The Smartwatch Fray With The miCoach Smart Run It does seem as though everyone is about to make the jump to the smartwatch bandwagon, and even earlier this morning, we sniffed out word that Nokia could very well roll out a smartwatch of their own. Adidas too, has jumped aboard the smartwatch bandwagon with the miCoach Smart Run, a timepiece that comes with a color touchscreen display as well as an integrated heart rate monitor.

Just what is the Adidas miCoach Smart Run able to do? For starters, it will be able to track your jogging route with the help of GPS mapping, while offering coaching tips in real-time, in addition to storing as well as playing your choice of workout music using Bluetooth connectivity. Of course, you are still unable to make calls or be on the receiving end of incoming messages, but it is still the next big step that Adidas has taken into the world of consumer electronics, where it will compete with other similar devices that has already entered the fray, including the Sony Smartwatch 2 as well as the Samsung Galaxy Gear. Will the miCoach Smart Run be able to be a success? Perhaps, but as usual, we will let time and market forces decide.
