EVLeaks Show Off Galaxy S4 Zoom For AT&T

EVLeaks Show Off Galaxy S4 Zoom For AT&TThe serial leaksters over at @evleaks are at it again, where this time around, they have revealed what seems to be a press photo of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom that will be headed in the direction of AT&T. This does seem to be an unlocked device, and in the leaked photo, it shows off the AT&T brand complete with carrier identification and official apps, which would mean that we could very well be looking at an AT&T subsidized version in the near future. Great news for those who have always wanted a better camera in their smartphone, but do not really have the budget to pick up one in an unlocked model, right?

The 16-megapixel Galaxy S4 Zoom can be said to be an interesting mixture of the Samsung Galaxy Camera as well as the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini. Would you want to pick up this camera cum smartphone hybrid when it arrives? Just to recap, the Galaxy S4 Zoom will arrive with a 4.3” qHD display with a resolution of 960×540, a dualp-core 1.5GHz chipset with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean in tow. It is not the lightest nor smallest handset from Samsung, as it tips the scales at 208grams while measuring 15.4mm thick.

    Google Offers App Redesigned

Google Offers App RedesignedIt goes without saying, that any company which wants to remain on the forefront of things would do well to ensure that they will always be able to keep up with the times, whether it is in terms of design or features, or otherwise, Google knows this all too well, having grown from being a start-up to the behemoth that it is today, and when it comes to their Google Offers app on the Android platform, you could say that it has not been as loved as the other apps where design is concerned, but thankfully, all of that has already changed with a brand new app update.

The new version of the Google Offers for Android app would bring with it sidebar navigation capability as well as a card-based interface, in addition to making some tweaks as to how the app would function. For instance, in the past, you would need to make an offer purchase via the app, followed by redeeming it with the merchant. Instead, you are now able to save it to the My Offers tab, let the cashier scan the barcode on your phone whenever you wish to use it, and you’re good to go. This would translate to the ability to redeem offers even when you do not happen to have a network connection. iOS users, patience is the keyword here as you will need to sit this one out for a little while until the app on your platform gets updated.

United Nations Elects 5 New Security Council Members

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The U.N. General Assembly elects five new members to the Security Council on Thursday and the winners are virtually certain because there are no contested races — Nigeria, Chad, Saudi Arabia, Lithuania and Chile.

Chad, Saudi Arabia and Lithuania have never served on the U.N.’s most powerful body while Nigeria and Chile have both been on the council four times previously.

Security Council seats are highly coveted because they give countries a strong voice in matters dealing with international peace and security, such as Syria, sanctions against Iran and North Korea and the U.N.’s far-flung peacekeeping operations.

Texting Before You Sleep Might Be Detrimental To Your Health

Texting Before You Sleep Might Be Detrimental To Your HealthIn a survey which was conducted on 83 college students, it was discovered that the higher the number of text messages that they sent out before bedtime, the more difficult it was to end up with a good night’s sleep after that. Does it sound like a whole lot of hogwash? Perhaps, or perhaps not. This particular study was written up in the Psychology of Popular Media Culture, and it was done before majority of people tend to go to bed with their handsets right beside them. Hence, it would be no surprise that late night texting sessions tend to end up with responses sent to you by your fellow night owls, which would make it disruptive to your sleep. Imagine yourself about to enter dreamland when the buzz or alert tone plays, jolting you awake. It is common sense as well as probability, really, to arrive at the conclusion of such a study.

According to the authors of the study, they suggested one way that would give you an improved quality of sleep. Before you hit the bed, put your phone on silent (and not vibrate), in addition to flipping the phone screen side down, unless you are willing to have a night light beside you. Alternatively, since doing so would mean you would not be woken up by any means via text or an incoming call, why not go the whole nine yards and just turn off the phone?

Telus Launched BlackBerry Z30 On Tuesday Before Cutting Its Price Right After

Telus Launched BlackBerry Z30 On Tuesday Before Cutting Its Price Right AfterI am quite sure by now that many of us who do keep up with news of tech companies and technology trends would know that BlackBerry is one company that is knee deep in trouble, as their handsets have not exactly been flying off the shelves, and neither has the introduction of newer devices managed to arrest the slide of each successive quarter’s earnings report. In Canada, where the company originated from, saw both Canadian carriers Bell and Telus launch the all new BlackBerry Z30, which is also the first BlackBerry device to feature a 5” display, and being the most powerful BlackBerry model to date.

It was priced off-contract for $700 at Bell and $650 at Telus, and you can be sure that there will be buyer’s remorse for those who picked theirs up from Telus, as the mobile carrier somehow introduced a $50 price cut for the BlackBerry Z30 earlier this morning, which would make it sell for $600 a pop – being a $100 cheaper compared to Bell. To see a smartphone’s price drop so soon after it is launched, and a flagship model at that, is surprising, perhaps it is a price war that Telus wants to engage in with Bell? If you were an early adopter of the BlackBerry Z30 with Telus, what are your thoughts on this?

    HTC Desire 709d Hits China

HTC Desire 709d Hits ChinaFor those of you who happen to reside in China, here is something that might just interest you if you are a huge fan of all things HTC – the HTC Desire 709d. The HTC Desire 709d does seem to shape up to be a China-only handset, and it remains to be seen whether it will be introduced elsewhere or not. What can we expect from the HTC Desire 709d in terms of its hardware, so that we would know just where it stands in the general scheme of things in the smartphone hierarchy?

Well, the HTC Desire 709d would arrive with a 5″ qHD Super LCD2 display and will be powered by a Snadpragon 200 chipset with a quad-core 1.2GHz Cortex-A5 processor, Adreno 203 graphics and 1GB RAM. It certainly does not sound like much where its processing muscle, or rather, the lack of it, is concerned, but at the very least the camera department seems to fare a whole lot better. We are talking about an 8-megapixel shooter at the back that is also capable of 1080p video recording, in addition to a front 2.1M-megapixel front-facing snapper that can also handle video chats of up to 1080p resolution, 8GB of internal memory, a 2,100mAh battery, and stereo BoomSound front speakers. Expect Android Jelly Bean as the operating system of choice with Sense UI, although we have our reservations as to whether this will be Sense 5.5 or not.

Garigari-kun series – vegetable chowder flavored ice popsicle

Nikon D5300 is the company’s first DSLR with built-in WiFi, ships this month for $800 (hands-on)

Nikon’s been peddling a variety of wireless adapters throughout the last few DSLR refresh cycles. Little dongles like the $50 WU-1a enable WiFi connectivity for photographers who really need it, but it’s hardly an elegant solution. Now, we finally have a Nikon digital SLR with 802.11 built in. It’s …
