Anki Drive brings iOS videogame racing to real life for $199 (hands-on)

Six years ago, when Boris Sofman, Mark Palatucci and Hanns Tappeiner were enrolled in the robotics Ph.D. program at Carnegie Mellon University, they noticed that a vast majority of robotics and artificial intelligence research went into government and industrial sectors, with very little of it …

Microsoft And British Airways Team Up For Digital Bag Tag

Microsoft And British Airways Team Up For Digital Bag TagWe’ve seen electronic bag tags before that allows a user to check where their bags are and to see if they arrive at its destination as expected, and now it looks like Microsoft wants in on some of that action and has recently teamed up with British Airways to create the Digital Bag Tag and a check-in system using NFC equipped Windows Phone devices, which is not surprising given that Microsoft would love to get their Windows Phone platform more coverage.

According to the description of the Digital Bag Tag, the device is a “system that will further reduce travel time and increase convenience, especially for frequent flyers. Instead of the usual paper tag that is attached to baggage before it makes its way to the airplane, a digital tag containing flight details ranging from destination to connecting flights and return journey is used.” The device itself will be reusable and has been designed with a battery life of about five years and could see the amount of paper tags being used, which would be great for the environment as well. British Airways believes that this new system will be more efficient than before and the airline company will begin to trial the new system starting from today.

NYC To Get Wireless EV Chargers Disguised As Manhole Covers

NYC To Get Wireless EV Chargers Disguised As Manhole CoversWhile electric vehicles are a great way to reduce our petrol consumption, the simple fact is that they take too long to charge and have a pretty short range before they require charging again. Well hopefully with more chargers being made readily available, more EVs will be adopted in the future and New York City is hoping that provide said convenience through the installation of EV chargers throughout the city. However this won’t be your standard EV charger, but instead will be disguised as manhole coveres that will be able to charge your EV wirelessly.

This technology is provided by Hevo Power, an EV charging company that managed to create a wireless charging system that will be able to deliver juice to EVs. Granted the power being transmitted is less than a regular EV charger, but given that it can be disguised as a manhole cover and can be placed on the ground, it is a bit more efficient and less conspicuous. The system, according to the company’s CEO, Jeremy McCool, is ideal of EV delivery trucks that typically drive at low speeds and don’t need a lot of battery power to get them to their destination. Pretty cool, huh?

KPCC Pledge Drive Parody Video Shows Radio Hosts Losing Their Minds

KPCC’s annual fall pledge drive just ended last week, and faithful Southern California public radio listeners are breathing a sigh of relief.

Yes, it is pretty annoying to have to sit through yet another segment of fundraising (especially if you’re a longtime sustainer!), but have you ever considered how stressful it is for the radio hosts? In the parody video below, FunnyOrDie.com gives viewers a sneak peek into how traumatic it is to beg for $5 a month so that a local businessman can match that donation for a total of $10,000.

Warning: the video contains a lot more f-words than your average public radio segment.

Moto X transfer tool adds iPhone migration to hasten iOS exodus

Motorola has added iPhone migration to its Moto X setup system, hoping that by making it easier to switch from iOS to Android, more Apple users will abandon the platform. The newly boosted transfer tool still doesn’t pull across all of the data from an iPhone, but can grab contacts and calendar entries from iCloud […]

Government Shutdown: Congress Voting To End Funding, Debt Standoff

WASHINGTON — The government shutdown is dead. Obamacare is alive.

The Senate voted 83 to 16 in the first of two votes Wednesday night to reopen the federal government and raise the nation’s borrowing limit, hours before the Treasury Department faced the possibility of being unable to pay all of America’s bills for the first time in modern history.

The House was expected to follow, ending the latest damaging battle of divided government in a polarized Congress.

S&P Was Minutes From Downgrading U.S. To Lowest Credit Rating: Report

The Republicans caved and agreed to restore the government and extend the debt ceiling for a number of good reasons. The Democrats and the president held firm, voters were angry with them, and Wall Street was worried that if America defaulted on its debt the world economy would collapse, as it did in 2008.

Rumor Has It: iPad 5 wants you to touch-a-touch-a-touch-it

iPad 5 wants you to touch-a-touch-a-touch-it

Apple is holding its iPad event on October 22, so all the rumors will finally be put to rest. The latest, which I think will come true, is that the iPad 5 will have a Touch ID sensor, just like the iPhone 5S. A recent video from Unbox Therapy also suggests that the next-gen iPad will incorporate this touch sensor security.

I mean, why wouldn’t it? It seems to be a novel idea on the iPhone 5S, and it sure does make buying things in the App Store a bit faster.

Also this week, a new report says that Amazon will be working with HTC to bring its fabled Amazon phone to the masses. And Google is rushing to push itself into the fledgling smartwatch world. Would you be into an Amazon phone? How about a Google watch? Don’t forget to vote in the polls in the video, and hit the comments and let me know what you think.

    Thanks for watching!
